Chapter 148: Gray

"Reena, any updates?"

A young white-haired man sat at the edge of a building so tall that he couldn’t even see distinct humans at the bottom. He wore black pants and a black jacket with metallic strips of clothes all over it.

His face was half hidden behind a metal mask that glowed in strips of light that covered his mouth, nose, and ears completely. The only available portion of his face, which were his eyes was also covered with a semi-transparent, orange visor.

The world that surrounded him was one of light, holograms, and other similarly tall buildings. Even the cars flew far below him as barely anything came this far up in the air.

Here, he felt alone, distant from the world. He enjoyed such a feeling.

He showed no fear dangling his feet from the edge of the roof of the tall building, as he looked at the building opposite to him through his visors.

The screen in the visors showed not an image of the building, however, but rather the inside of it. Through the visors, he could see multiple people inside the building doing something.

"Reena?" he called again.

"Stop annoying me," a girl’s voice came from the metal mask on his face. "I told you I’m still waiting on the approval from government. You know how slow these damn people from Barson are."

"Alright, chill," the man said. "You get angry for no reason."

Nothing came from the other side for a while before the girl spoke again. "I will kill you someday."

The young man only chuckled.

"Tell me a joke or something. I’m super bored," the man said.

"I don’t have a joke, but I do have a piece of news I just received. Do you want to hear it?" she asked.

"A news? What sort?" the man asked.

"One you’ll like," the girl said.

"Ooh, tell me then," he said, looking forward to the news.

"Sheila has been found," Reena said.

"Ah! Did the girl finally resurface?" he asked. "Just how long was she undercover for?"

"6 months, and... I don’t know if she was undercover or not," Reena said. "She is currently in a hospital, in a city in Eyland. From what I can see, she’s lost her arm and was carried by a weird young man who does not exist on the database."

The young man’s eyes narrowed a bit. "He does not exist?" he asked. "What about close DNAs? Can you find his parents?"

"No, even with the widest range possible, we couldn’t even find his grandparents," the girl said.

The young man frowned. "Could it be... a Soul farm?" he asked.

"We can’t tell as of yet," she said. "Ulia is on her way there right now."

"You said she is missing an arm, right? Have Ulia take Sheila directly to Amy. We will go visit her after I’m done with work here."

"Alright," Reena said.

"Sigh, if only this stupid country didn’t take so much time to go through—"

"They accepted," Reena interjected. "You’re good to go, Gray."

The young man’s eyes widened slightly as a hidden smile formed on his face. "Finally!"

Gray propelled at an unnatural speed as he flew through the sky, directly into the building on the other side. His body moved unnaturally as he adjusted his flight path and made a beeline toward the floor where the people he had seen before were.

The glass window broke into a million shards before he even arrived, the pieces flying into the men and women.

Then, Gray landed inside the room. He slowly looked up at the people, all of whom were in disarray.

A few of them quickly moved as they pulled out their guns, pointed them at Gray, and then shot at him without a moment’s delay.

The plasma bullets all struck Gray, however, none of them harmed him at all. Then, they started ricocheting around and even hit two people, one of which died on the spot.

"Wow, he would’ve survived for a bit longer had he just waited for me to speak, you know?" Gray said, his voice sounding a little mechanical from behind the mask.

"Who are you? Why have you intruded on our property?" one man spoke.

Gray ignored the people that shot at him and instead looked at the two men that had barriers around them, one of which had just spoken. His visor glowed as it recognized the two men by their faces and moved on to the rest of the people there.

"Frejo Demmux and Trennor Challis, on account of 42 cases of homicide, 12 cases of rape, 8 instances of robbery, 15 instances of human trafficking, as well as countless other crimes, I hereby sentence you two, and everyone you work with to death."

"What are you—"

One of the guards suddenly had their head blown off and the bits of it landed all over the room. Before panic even set in, 3 other guards died with holes in their chests.

One of them tried to shoot, but their guns instead flew out of their hands, landing on Gray’s hand. He then shot 3 more people, including 2 girls who were trying to run away.

Finally, he looked at the two terrified men who were the last people standing in the room.

The man named Frejo moved, trying to use his powers. However, before he was able to, he had his head cut off from his neck. The barrier did nothing to stop him.

Trennor stood there, terrified. He had seen everyone die, but aside from the gun, he had seen the man use no other powers at all. He couldn’t understand what was happening at all.

"P-please, please forgi—"

His body squished from head to feet, bloody bits flying everywhere in the room, surprisingly not landing anywhere around Gray at all.

"Were these people really that hard for the regular cops to handle?" he asked. "they died so easily.."

"Good job," Reena spoke. "I’ll tell the police department to handle the rest."

"Alright," Gray said and waited for a minute or two before a car arrived next to the broken window, driven by the girl named Reena.

He hopped into the car and Reena drove away from the location, heading back toward Starhall.
