Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance
Chapter 150: Questions
Stanley sat in the white room with nothing but a bed and a soft pillow to rest his head on. He wanted to go to sleep, but the worry that he had been imprisoned didn’t let him sleep.
Not to mention that he had just gotten up from one where he had apparently been poisoned. He looked around at the shield that blocked off the area around where he was imprisoned.
He could see other similar rooms outside as well, but none of them had any people in them. He wondered if the first thing to happen after coming out of a farm was that he was going to be sent to prison.
Was he going to have to spend the rest of his life in prison? Or could he prove that he was innocent? Maybe once Sheila was okay, she could tell them that he wasn’t in the wrong.
’How long has it been?’ he thought. ’Is she alright?’
He hoped she was doing fine and that her fever had gone down. He also hoped that the Shadow Nova didn’t catch up to him just yet.
As he waited, he heard footsteps and looked up to see a few people walk in. He got up, recognizing the two that had captured them as well as another slightly older man who stood in between the two.
Stanley looked at the man, slightly worried that he was about to force him to labor. That was what every prisoner in his town was forced to do after all.
"Can you understand me?" the man in the middle spoke all of a sudden.
Stanley’s eyes went wide. "Yes!" he said. "Can you understand me?"
"Yes, I can," the man said. "It seems you truly do speak old Eylish."
Stanley got closer to the shield now that he could be understood. "Please, you need to let me out of here. I did not hurt her. She asked me to cut off her arm because it was broken initially."
"I ran all the way here so someone could save her when she broke out into fever," Stanley said.
The two behind the older man looked at him, waiting for him to respond. That told Stanley that this was the man with authority around here.
"Did you kill someone?" the man asked.
"Did I... what?" Stanley looked confused.
"The sword you brought back. It had traces of blood belonging to two people. Did you kill someone?" the man asked.
Stanley’s first instinct was to lie. If he said that he killed someone, then that would be no different than admitting that he deserved to remain in prison. However, seeing what sort of things the people in the outside world were capable of, he chose not to lie.
"I did, just one person," He said. "It was the mayor of our town, and he had killed my older brother. So I took my revenge and killed him."
The man looked at him with narrowed eyes. "Mayor?" he asked. "Of what town?"
"It’s called... it was called the Town of Last Hope. It was a town set up in the mountains over 150 years ago, run by... by a Nova and her brother, who was the mayor," he said.
The older man’s eyes widened in shock. "What did you say? A Nova?" he asked. He couldn’t hide his fear when he heard that.
"Yes, a Nova," he said. "According to Sheila, she was a Nova from over 150 years ago. Uhh... what was the name... Raven, I think? She used Shadows."
"From 150 years ago?" the man still couldn’t believe it. "I know nothing about any Nova that can use any shadows. Do you guys know anything?"
The two next to him shook their head. "Should I look it up?" the man asked.
"Later," the older man said. "So you’re saying you come from a town that was governed by a nova? And what happened to the Nova?"
"I don’t know," Stanley said. "I ran away with Sheila before she could kill everyone in the town. I assume everyone is dead now, and she is already out to catch us."
"Killed everyone? A Nova?" the girl shouted in surprise. She feared the implications those words meant. The other man whispered something as well.
Stanley watched the three of them talk about the Nova while not caring about him. "Is Sheila awake?" he asked, breaking the conversation. "Is she alright?"
The 3 stopped. The older man answered. "She is no longer in danger of death if that is what you’re asking. As for waking up, I do not know about that. I doubt she will wake up anytime soon with the injuries she’s had."
"Good," Stanley sighed. "That’s good. You guys are police right?"
"Yes, that is what we are," the man said. "These two are officers, and I’m the captain of this precinct."
"Sheila is one too," he said. "She’ll tell you that I don’t need to be imprisoned."
"She is one what?" the captain asked. "A police?"
"Yes," Stanley said.
"Are you sure?" the man asked.
Stanley was weirded out. "That’s... what she told me," he said. He saw the look of confusion in the captain’s eyes, worried that she had been lying. "Is she not a police?"
"I... I don’t know," the captain said. "You will have to ask her once she wakes up."
"What if she’s not?" Stanley asked. "Will I be imprisoned forever?"
"Oh, no," the captain said. "You are actually free to leave."
He looked at the man next to him, who quickly pulled out something that glowed and did something that shut down the shield around him.
Stanley looked around in bit of a surprise before slowly moving his arm to make sure the barrier truly wasn’t there anymore. After making sure there wasn’t anything there, he finally stepped out.
"T-thank you," he said quickly. "For letting me go."
"Well, don’t thank me," the captain said. "Thank the girl once she wakes up. It seems she has quite the deep connection with people in high positions."
