Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance
Chapter 151: A Memento
Stanley was let out of the prison, and made to walk with the captain to go outside with him.
"Why don’t you take a shower? We’ll get you some fresh clothes to wear," the captain said.
"Shower? What’s that?" Stanley asked.
"Do you not know what a shower is?" the captain asked.
"I only know about the rain, but surely I cannot take the rain, right?" he asked.
"Did your town not have a shower? Like where the water would come at you from the top, just like rain," the captain asked.
"Does it have to do with bathing? We usually did that next to a stream," Stanley said.
The captain couldn’t believe there was someone out there that didn’t know what a shower was. "Anyway... you get a shower. These two will show you to the bathroom, while I will wait for you."
Stanley nodded.
The captain split off from them and moved on his own while the other two were left with him. The man showed him the way, taking him to a room at the end of the floor.
The girl waited outside, while the two men went in.
"Undress and get into the shower," The man said.
Stanley nodded and took off his tattered pant, his loose, gray underwear, and his thick metal boots.
The man quickly handed him a towel to cover himself. He then walked to the shower and taught Stanley how to use it.
There wasn’t much to do except press a few things on the screen, which Stanley, unfortunately, couldn’t read.
"Press red and blue and the middle one... got it," Stanley said.
"Alright, now go in and shower. That button is for shampoo, and that one is for soap. Do you care about conditioners?" the man asked.
"What’s a conditioner?" Stanley asked. "Actually, what’s a shampoo too?"
The man could only stare. "Alright, just use soap for now then," he said. "I’ll go and get your clothes thrown out and bring new ones."
The man left, going to where Stanley had undressed, and picked it up. When Stanley saw what was happening, he freaked out.
"NO!" he shouted suddenly, surprising the man enough to make him drop everything out of instinct.
"What?" he asked fearfully.
Stanley quickly came up to him and grabbed the shoes. "Not the shoes," he said. "My brother gave them to me."
"Your brother?" the man looked. "You mean the one that died?"
Stanley nodded.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t know," the man said. "When did he pass away?"
"Yesterday," Stanley said. "Please, treat them with care. They are the only thing I have that belongs to him."
"I’m so sorry," the man said. "My condolences about your brother."
Stanley nodded. "Thank you," he said and went back to the shower.
He did as he was instructed and pressed a few buttons. Slightly warm water fell on him from the top, surprising him at its sudden appearance.
He was fascinated by the machine in the shower too as he took his time with it. He got out a while later, fully bathed and dried by some hot air that blew in the shower.
Once out, he saw the simple clothes that were prepared for him. He wore them and saw that his shoes had been wrapped in something clear.
"I thought you would want to keep it instead of wearing it since it’s your brother’s memento," the man spoke from the side. "You can wear the other shoes I prepared."
Stanley picked up the shoes and nodded. "Thank you," he said.
"No problem," the man said. "Let’s leave. I will take you to the hospital where your friend is currently at."
Stanley nodded and left with the man.
Stanley was still curious as he looked around the place. Now that the fear of being imprisoned had left him, he let his curiosity flow through him.
"Where am I, if you don’t mind me asking," Stanley said. "I was told the country is Eyland. Is that true?"
"Yes, we’re in Eyland," the man said. "Did you not know that?"
"I only found out yesterday," Stanley said. "Does this city have a name?"
"Groland city," the man answered.
"I see," Stanley said. "And what are all of those floating pictures? And those glasses that glow? And also that flying cart we came in."
"Woah, woah, woah," the man said. "That’s a lot of questions. Do you come from a place that didn’t have it all or what?"
"Yes," Stanley said. "The town I lived in had nothing of this sort. Well, the mayor was hiding it all, but I only found that yesterday when I killed him."
"We wore simple clothes, fought monsters with our metal swords, that sort of thing," he said. "I understand that it might be weird to understand, but you could say that I come from an entirely different world."
"I can see that," the man said. "Let me tell you what I can for now."
The man started explaining everything around him and how it worked as they made their way to the parking spot where his car was.
The girl had already come and prepared to leave, so the two of them just walked in and flew away.
Cars, shields, electricity, holograms, screens.
Whatever the man could see, he explained to Stanley what it was. It was hard to retain all the new information, but Stanley tried.
They arrived at the hospital a few minutes later, which too Stanley had to be told. After arriving, the two officers quickly helped him locate Sheila’s room and they took him there.
Stanley arrived in front of her room which was closed off by a metal door.
"Let me call a doctor," the man said.
"No need," a voice called out to them.
Stanley and the rest turned to see a woman that stood at a corner of the hallway who had just spoken. She chewed on something as she leaned off of the wall and walked toward the group.
She stopped right in front of Stanley and smiled. "You must be the one that saved Sheila," she said, placing her hand forward. "Nice to meet you, I’m Ulia."
