Substitute Bride: Utterly Pampered by Her Billionaire Husband
Chapter 1542: He Has Arrived
Celeste Linden wasn’t sure about Carlotta’s situation, but Ethan Barnes had hurried over to rescue her. With Ethan’s capabilities, he was sure to save Carlotta; Celeste had confidence in him for that.
Now, she was very anxious because she was hiding in a cave and could already hear footsteps getting closer.
Two men in black had discovered the place. "Come and take a look here. Something seems off. Doesn’t this look like a cave to you?"
"It really is. Could that little bitch be hiding in here?"
The branches outside were pushed aside, and the two men in black walked in, immediately spotting Celeste Linden.
Celeste’s heart sank to the bottom; she had failed to escape and had been discovered once again.
The two men in black seemed quite pleased upon discovering Celeste. "Little bitch, so you were hiding here, weren’t you? Aren’t you good at running? Go ahead, run now."
"We both got injured by you; you’re quite something. Hurry and come back with us. This time, you’ll regret it!"
"Let’s quickly take her back. The boss is looking for her, so we can claim credit this time."
As they spoke, the two men in black edged closer to Celeste, intending to capture her.
Celeste remained curled on the ground, no longer having the strength to run. She was over four months pregnant and the strenuous activity earlier left her feeling discomfort in her lower abdomen; any further and there was a risk of miscarriage.
However, she couldn’t go with them; she would only face a dead end if she did.
Celeste’s hand stealthily reached for her waist, where she had concealed two knives. There was still one left.
If she drew the knife, could she unexpectedly solve the problem of these two men?
Celeste held her breath, feeling sweat on her palms. She fixed her gaze on the two men in black, preparing for a last stand.
"Come on, little bitch, let’s go." The hand of one of the men reached out, getting closer.
Celeste’s heart was in her throat. Just as she was about to make a move, someone suddenly dashed in, swiftly and decisively knocking out the two men in black from behind.
The black-clad men fell to the ground with eyes wide open, never expecting to be finished off so swiftly.
Celeste’s heart raced, startled by this sudden development. She looked up at the newcomer; a familiar handsome face came into view—it was Ethan Barnes.
He had made it.
Celeste gasped for air, her entire demeanor like that of a fiercely guarded porcupine suddenly relaxing, with beads of sweat rolling down her forehead.
Ethan looked at Celeste, now curled in the corner, her clothes dirty and tattered, stained with blood, looking very downcast and disheveled. However, her eyes were bright, flashing with a cold light when she had glared at the two men in black earlier.
Yet, upon seeing him arrive, she relaxed completely, slumping to the ground.
Ethan hurried forward, the rough sound from his throat was hoarse, "Are you... alright?"
He saw the injuries on her, uncertain whether they were from the fight or the perilous darkness of the jungle. In any case, she had suffered greatly during the whole ordeal.
He extended his hand, wishing to soothe her.
But he hesitated.
Celeste felt she had narrowly escaped death; moments ago, she thought she might die there. She nodded, "I’m alright."
Saying this, her hand rested on her lower abdomen.
"What’s wrong with your stomach?" Ethan asked.
