Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts
Chapter 1684: Last Fortress
Nathan and Vivian flew toward the closest one first, trying to figure out whether this person was an enemy or not.
On their way, they could see the condition of the continent. It looked like humanity here indeed went to the north to survive.
They found a few structures on their way, looking like they had just been destroyed not too long ago.
So, they thought that the arrow pointing in this area meant they were the survivors. However, Nathan couldn’t confirm the person that the other arrow pointed to.
After flying for a while, Nathan was slightly surprised when they saw a mighty fortress, using a mountain range to protect it.
"This..." Nathan widened his eyes in shock.
Vivian tilted her head in confusion. "Why?"
"This looks like the fortress that the Asura Palace made to stop the alien’s invasion. It may also be the last stronghold on this continent." Nathan frowned. Although he couldn’t be so sure, at the very least this stronghold might give him the answer he wanted.
"Well, we can’t be so sure, can’t we?"
"Yeah." Nathan nodded. "It’s better to disguise ourselves first."
Nathan and Vivian first approached the fortress carefully. They made sure that they wouldn’t be under their radar, trying to check the condition of the fortress.
It didn’t look like the fortress was undergoing a fight, but the fortress wall was already painted with many colors. Many aliens had spilled their blood here, so it was clear that this place had been attacked by aliens.
The person that the arrow pointed to shouldn’t be an enemy if the aliens considered that person an enemy.
Nathan observed the fortress from the top of the mountain before summoning Jinwu. "Can you take a look at their situation? If it’s possible, I want to know their current morale."
"Sure." Jinwu nodded before flying down the mountain.
"We should wait for now. You should tell Evelyn about this fortress. I’m going to continue with my observation."
"Got it."
To his surprise, after Vivian walked away, Mae abruptly looped around Nathan as if she were trying to protect him.
Then, a silhouette formed not far from Nathan.
Nathan remained silent, but he was also aware of this presence. This presence was strong.
Just from standing alone, he realized that this person had a divine rule. If they fought for real, Nathan had the confidence to win, but it might be bad for this continent.
Still, this person might be the guardian of this fortress.
"Who are you?" The person asked. His voice was cold, but it didn’t leak out killing intent.
"I am Nathan Reckmoon. Who are you?"
The person realized that Nathan’s lips didn’t move according to his voice. "You... You are not speaking our language?"
"If I answer that question, are you willing to tell me who you are?"
The person paused for a moment before saying, "All right."
Nathan calmly answered, "I’m not from this continent."
"..." The person squinted before saying, "I’m the protector of this fortress. People call me Koraxa. I sense no hostility from you, so I don’t think you’re coming with bad intentions. Still, I can’t help but feel skeptical about your presence here."
"You sure we don’t have any intention? We’re scouting your fortress and preparing for our attacks." Nathan smirked.
"My unique power tells me that you have no intention of doing it. Besides, if you have that intention, I don’t think you need to scout the area. I sense a threat, but no hostility, including from a certain bird.
"If we include the fox that is protecting you, it’s clear that both of them are strong, but they’re not your strongest familiars. If we fight, there’s no way I can win."
’Unique power... Innate ability?’ Nathan thought. It seemed that this person was able to sense a threat as well as hostility.
He could sense Jinwu, but the fact that he held no hostility meant Jinwu had no intention of attacking. This unique ability was definitely the best for survival.
It was no wonder he was a guardian. He must have sensed that this fortress was able to withstand the enemy. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Nathan asked, "In that case, how about exchanging information? Since you have a unique power, that means you know other people might possess one too, right?"
Koraxa nodded. "Yes. Do you have that unique power?"
"Indeed." Nathan formed the Soul Contract. There was no need to hide this power anymore, so he boldly showed it to Koraxa. "This is my unique power, Soul Contract. This contract will bind your soul once you sign it. So, we will use this contract to make ourselves unable to lie to each other. Do you dare to sign it?"
The words on the contract had changed. Koraxa had no way to understand the writing since the words written on the contract had no influence from the sigil.
"Hmm..." Koraxa frowned. "There’s no way to confirm that."
"Well, that depends on your willingness, I guess." Nathan shrugged. "It’s not like you can stop us either, right?"
Koraxa carefully considered Nathan’s suggestion before nodding. "All right. I will follow your arrangements. However, if it’s a contract, you should be able to separate the conditions, right? For example, in the first condition, you are to be honest with me, while in the second condition, I have to be honest with you."
Koraxa planted a small trap for Nathan. By separating the condition, Koraxa was able to see the similarity between the words, which allowed him to know that he had put similar conditions. He didn’t tell Nathan the reason so that the other party didn’t understand his intention.
Nathan smiled and revised the contract. There were only two lines in the contract, and both of them looked quite similar. There were no other words added, as if Nathan were showing his sincerity.
Koraxa was still a bit suspicious, but it looked like it was better to sign this contract.
"How do we sign it?"
Nathan pointed to the bottom of the contract and demonstrated it by biting his thumb and using his print to sign the contract. "Like this."
Koraxa nodded and did the same in his own space.
