Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts
Chapter 1685: Trust
"All right." Nathan nodded, looking at the contract that had gone active. "So..."
Nathan and Koraxa looked at each other as if asking who would go first.
Koraxa extended his hand. "You can go first."
"Sure." Nathan accepted it. There were a lot of questions in his mind, but it was better to let him know that the contract bound both of them. "Try to lie. What is your name?"
Koraxa opened his mouth, but he realized that he couldn’t say anything in his mind. The only thing that came out of his mouth was the truth. "Koraxa Lemangas."
He finally understood the binding power of the Soul Contract. So, Koraxa returned the courtesy by asking, "What is your name?"
"Nathan Reckmoon." Nathan smiled. With this, he managed to gain Koraxa’s trust.
Koraxa was still careful, but he could accept Nathan a bit more.
Hence, Nathan asked the next question. "Are there other places that remain standing on this continent?"
Koraxa nodded. "From what I know, there is at least one more place."
Koraxa stopped here because he didn’t want to tell Nathan about this information to protect the other place. So, he asked, "What is your intention in asking this question?"
Nathan smiled. "I have no intention of harming you or anyone on this continent as long as they’re not my enemies. Rather, I’ve come to this continent to offer you an opportunity. If you are willing, I can help you leave this continent."
"That’s impossible. We have gone to Erendtall due to the previous record, but it’s impossible to find any living place over there. There are only aliens."
Nathan nodded in understanding. "Erendtall’s living space is on the north of the continent, so if you land on the south, you won’t be able to find anything. If you are that deep in alien territory, it’s obvious why you can’t find anything."
"!!!" Koraxa widened his eyes in shock. He never thought that was the case.
After the invasion, they had gone to Erendtall a few times, considering their two continents were connected. But it turned out Erendtall was still living, not just in the place they expected.
They originally occupied the northern side of Myrall, thinking that the people in Erendtall would reside on their southern side. This way, they could protect each other’s backs. If they wanted to, they could even go to each other’s continent.
However, the fact that they couldn’t find anything made them think the people in Erendtall had died.
"I see..." Koraxa finally understood the circumstances. So, his next question was obvious. "Are you really going to help us to go there?"
"Of course. I can’t lie under the contract."
"How?"
"It’s my turn to ask the question." Nathan raised his finger.
"Ah, yes, please." Koraxa extended his hand, gesturing to Nathan to ask his question.
Nathan continued with a smile. "Do you know the cause of the disaster?"
Koraxa nodded with a grim expression. "This disaster is caused by the Red Amber Mountain. When it erupted, it destroyed everything within a 300 km radius instantly. The ash it spewed out caused global famine, causing even more devastation.
"In the end, the aliens took us by surprise and hit us hard. As a result, the continent was devastated, and most people died in the process.
"I was able to avoid this disaster because of my unique power. I sensed the danger coming two years before the eruption, and I tried warning the people, but none of them listened to me.
"Fortunately, I managed to create this refugee camp and have been defending it since."
Nathan was surprised that Koraxa gave him this much information from a single question. It showed how devastated Koraxa was because of this disaster.
Koraxa asked, "How are you planning to bring us there?"
Nathan pointed down and used his energy to draw a sketch. "I’m going to use my power to link this continent to Erendtall. Then, I will link this portal to the northern portal I’ve created, allowing you to reach human territory."
Since Koraxa had given him that much information previously, Nathan continued, "There are two countries that are still standing. They’re quite massive. With a population of about fifty million each, they still maintain their sovereignty. There’s no more food problem, so if your people can take refuge here, I think they’re more than happy to welcome them."
Koraxa’s face looked incredibly relaxed when he realized there was a chance of survival.
"This is good..." Koraxa felt like crying. He had been fighting hard all this time just to survive. He saw the low morale in his fortress. People had given up because they thought the situation wouldn’t get better no matter how hard they resisted. They were merely delaying their impending doom.
A lot of people committed suicide because they couldn’t stand it anymore.
Nathan paused for a moment, allowing him to feel relieved. Once he calmed down, Nathan asked his question. "Do you know any humans still surviving on the southern side of the continent?"
"Are there?" Koraxa tilted his head in confusion. "After the disaster, all of us were just trying to survive. The aliens pushed us from the south, so we had no choice but to go north. I didn’t have the time, resources, or desire to go south for whatever reason."
"That’s understandable. Sorry."
"No, it’s fine." Koraxa took a deep breath. "So, what’s your intention in coming here? Surely, you don’t come just to rescue us."
Nathan nodded. "Yes. I have three goals. Rescuing you is actually the fourth goal, but hear me out first."
"No, no. I don’t feel offended. There are not many of us anymore, so I doubt we’re that useful anymore, so it’s understandable that you don’t want to rescue us. The cost of rescuing us must also be high, so I understand you." Koraxa waved his hand. He was slightly disappointed, but he didn’t bear a grudge.
Nathan sighed. "Anyway, the first reason is to find the way you utilize your familiars. There are four continents on this world, that means the aliens are fighting us on four fronts at the same time. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"After the eruption, more and more aliens are coming to the other fronts..."
"Because we have collapsed and are in no position to fight them anymore." Koraxa gasped.
"Unfortunately, yes."
Koraxa fell silent. "So, you want to know about our way of summoning..."
