Chapter 2248: Chapter 2312: Elder of Goodness

"I still don’t quite support you doing this, Saintess. Although there is no explicit stipulation in the doctrine, this is actually against it. The Saintess is the highest symbol of the Holy Church, and if such a symbol were to go to another country, especially a place like Huaxia, I really don’t think it can pass."

"But...this is the only thought in my heart right now. If I can’t achieve it, I think I will be very sad," the Saintess said.

Mus looked at the Saintess and only spoke after a long time, "It’s difficult, truly difficult, but..."

"Elder Mus, do you have a way?" the Saintess’s eyes lit up.

Mus chuckled and said, "According to the rules, if more than half of the ten elders in the Elder’s Council vote favorably, some decisions can be changed, though not all. Your intention to reside in Huaxia is indeed not in line with the doctrine, especially since it’s not just a visit like before, but a permanent move. However, if you can gain the support of more than half of the elders, I think this matter can be managed flexibly, especially since you have now retired as Saintess, basically becoming the former Saintess."

"That’s indeed the case. So, I think the resistance might not be that strong!" The Saintess said this with an expectant look at Elder Mus, who smiled knowingly and said, "The Saintess has already gained my friendship. I’m sure in this matter, I’d be happy to support you, Saintess."

Finally, she had a breakthrough. The Saintess felt a joy in her heart. The reason she was so proactive and did this immediately after thinking about it was because... she did not want to force her way into Huaxia as Li Yifei had suggested. Although nothing might happen that way, if the Holy War Organization really wanted revenge, everything belonging to the Li family outside Huaxia would be attacked. Even in Huaxia, things might not go well.

After all, the Li family now has many cooperative projects and export projects; if the Holy War Organization struck with no regard for consequences, those aspects of the Li family’s enterprises would undoubtedly suffer devastating blows.

The Saintess had to consider Li Yifei, and if the decision could be made legally by the Elders’ Council, the consequences would be much less severe.

Elder Mus was not speaking for himself alone; another female elder and yet another elder were involved, which meant that there were already three elders. Adding Elder Oisi previously, that’s four. With Babua now full of suspicion, he likely won’t be participating in this vote, so the Saintess only needed to win over one more elder to ensure that when she proposed her intention to settle in Huaxia, the matter could pass in the Elders’ Council.

But... what do I need to offer? The Saintess turned to ask, "Thank you, Elder Mus, for your support and understanding. However... I can’t take benefits without offering anything in return. What can I do for you, Elder Mus?"

"Haha, I just can’t bear to see the younger generation suffer. The times have changed, and we, the older folks, also need to adapt. I’m even learning to use various electronic devices now; it feels great..." Elder Mus didn’t directly state his demands, but the Saintess wasn’t in a hurry. Finding his words interesting, she nodded frequently.

"At my age, I don’t have many demands. You don’t have to be so cautious, Saintess. There are still good people in the world," Mus seemed to perceive the Saintess’s thoughts and offered a comforting word.

Hmm? Was Mus not planning on making his request? The Saintess was slightly puzzled; Andisto had clearly stated yesterday that Mus was secretly grooming a candidate for Saintess, yet he didn’t bring it up now. This was...

But the principle had to be upheld: if the other party didn’t speak, the Saintess couldn’t mention it, so she just said again, "Elder Mus, if you have something to say, feel free. I’m seeking your help but operate on an equal exchange principle!"

"Haha, you! Truly, there’s nothing. Just consider it as me helping you this time. Keep my kindness in mind; in the future, if I have any matters, you won’t turn a blind eye!" Mus laughed.

"That is indeed the case... I’ll thank Elder Mus here first." The Saintess said.

Then, the Saintess inquired about the progress of the case. Although it was Elder Mus and Elder Andrew leading the investigation, they didn’t need to handle it personally. There was a whole bunch of people under them to get things done, so they could stay at home.

"We still can’t find Owen; he seems to have disappeared. Owen is quite skilled, having received professional training. If he’s determined to escape, it might be hard to track him down. Given the time, he might have reached any corner of the Earth by now," Elder Mus said with a hint of regret.

"Indeed!" The Saintess raised an eyebrow and, after speaking, continued, "Or perhaps he’s already dead, like that general—his body sunk in some pond or buried somewhere, leaving us unable to find him!"

Upon hearing this, Mus was slightly taken aback. After several seconds, he clapped his hands and said, "You’ve reminded me, that is indeed a possibility!"

"Hadn’t Elder Mus considered this possibility before?" the Saintess asked mildly.

Mus grinned, saying, "Well... it was indeed overlooked. But you’ve reminded me; since the general was killed, Owen could also have been murdered!"

The Saintess smiled and said, "Elder Mus, I think we need to consider the motive behind killing Owen. If he’s truly dead, then who killed him!"

"I’ll take that into consideration, certainly assuming Owen is dead. But even if he is, there are both suicide and homicide possibilities!" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

The Saintess nodded, content to have reminded Mus.

Leaving Mus’s residence, the Saintess noticed some people casting furtive glances her way. But she didn’t mind, maintaining a relaxed smile. Soon, all the elders knew that the Saintess visited Mus and then went straight back without going to other elders.

Informed individuals would know that the Saintess was first summoned for a conversation by Elder Andisto, though the content was unknown, and was later visited by Elder Ouchi. After Elder Oisi left, the Saintess proactively went to see Elder Mus.

If Elder Babua hadn’t been caught up in this incident, he would have been considered a crucial internal power within the organization, possibly even more influential than Mus, given his connections with the Grand Elder.

All these rumors intertwined, leading many elders and key members to do some calculations. With the Saintess out of her position yet thriving, and Babua suspected of plotting against her, if it’s indeed his doing, Babua would certainly fall. The resources of the entire Holy War Organization would need to be redistributed...

The Saintess, ignoring such matters, returned to her residence, sent Li Yifei several messages, finished her tasks, and then took a relaxing bath, followed by a good night’s sleep.

Initially, the plan was for Li Yifei to retrieve Owen’s body, but after some discussion, it was decided to have the body handed over directly. With Owen dead, Babua remained the prime suspect unless he could provide direct evidence dissociating himself from the attempt on the Saintess. Otherwise, someone would have to take the fall, and with suspicions highest on him, Babua was the likeliest candidate.

Waking up, the Saintess checked her phone and found several messages from Li Yifei, indicating that he was on his way. The second message stated that he was now less than fifty kilometers from the headquarters of the Holy War Organization, having rented a camper. Li Yifei intended to pose as a traveler, having also done a simple disguise that even his own family might not recognize him if he didn’t want to be identified.

"Why did you come?" The Saintess replied.

After a while, Li Yifei responded, "The situation is critical. If Babua is plotting against us, we should be wary of any desperate actions on his part. And if it wasn’t him, you’re still in danger!"

"I know, I’ll be cautious, you too!" the Saintess replied.

That night, Mus and Andrew received reports of Owen’s body being discovered, having been dead for some time. The body was found by a member within the organization, someone secretly aligned with the Saintess.

With the corpse found, many elders couldn’t sit still. This indicated that the investigation was at an impasse. Even if Owen’s murder was confirmed, who had killed him? Time-wise, Babua had already been in custody for several hours during this period and couldn’t have issued orders.

"Impasse?" Andrew paced around the room. Known for his impatient demeanor, he wasn’t reckless, or he wouldn’t be an elder. Still, he was impulsive and expressive. Upon hearing this result, he cursed repeatedly.

First, there was the general; then came the friendship with the general, assigning drones to strike the Saintess’s location—Owen did these tasks. His connection with Babua made Babua a suspect. Now, with Owen dead, and by someone else’s hand, the situation grew more complicated.

"Confirmed homicide?" Mus followed up with a question.

"Elder Mus, it was a murder," replied a subordinate.

"Find out if during Babua’s detention, he had any...never mind, I already asked. He had no access to communication devices or contact with others during this time!" Andrew finished and slammed a palm down, instantly destroying the chair before him.

Rather than being agitated, Mus waited for Andrew to calm down a bit before saying, "Elder Andrew, this doesn’t absolve Babua. These people were all thought to be under his influence. Their deaths only increase his likelihood of guilt."

"Come with me to confront Babua," Andrew grumbled, setting off, and Mus didn’t try to stop him, following behind.

The group stormed into Babua’s room to find him heavily drinking. Intoxicated, Andrew stormed over, grabbing Babua’s collar and pulling him up, eyes glaring, "Babua, tell me, did you kill them?"

"Andrew, how many times must I say it? I wasn’t plotting to murder the Saintess. Why do you keep asking?" Babua, his eyes blurry and the empty bottles around him evidence of his drinking, retorted.
