Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf
Chapter 278: Horde (2)
The dark elves were quite weird the bunch. While they didn’t use their bodies to fight, they sure liked to fight using their magic. In their own way, they were adrenaline junkies. However, they got tense after that massive earthquake. They had good senses, so they could tell that it had been caused by magic with a single spell... Cast by a single person, it was hard to imagine how powerful such a being was supposed to be. Since Luke and the others were too far away to see anything, he assumed that such an attack had the same power as a hydrogen bomb even after going up in the sky. Shalia was quiet, and that only happens when something was troubling her, which was extremely rare. So, Luke wondered if he had missed something. Asking directly wouldn’t help knowing how Shalia was usually.
"We came from the northwest, what is in that direction?" Luke asked.
"Six months ago, it had the largest settlement of this world, while they were quite stubborn, they had a single leader, probably the most powerful dark elf among us," Shalia replied.
Luke didn’t like to hear that. It became clear that someone powerful targeted that settlement and possibly the leader of the dark elves. From an attack that could be felt hundreds of kilometers away... Luke could only imagine what happened to those close to the place where it hit...
"Let’s go check out that place, we won’t learn anything just by thinking about it," Luke said.
No one opposed, but no one agreed either. Nambra was also pretty quiet, so Luke wondered if she knew anything about enemies that could use attacks of that level. Still, it seemed a bit too early to talk about beings that are similar to the ones that killed Rina’s parents. He wondered if it was a good idea to keep treating her as if she was made of glass, but he couldn’t help it. She was an important friend that saved his life many times. It was only natural that he would feel that way.
While heading West, the group found many monsters heading in the opposite direction, even some dark elves as well. It seemed that they could tell that someone dangerous was there. In any case, Luke killed the monsters, and those dark elves that got in his way were forced to become his followers after a beating.
"I didn’t come here to walk so much... and the battles aren’t that hard since we have so many on our side," Danielle said.
"Stop complaining," Luke said and then messed with Danielle’s hair. "And be more serious about your work, since we are here to help our friends."
"Even though you are beating a lot of people for no reason?" Danielle asked.
"I have a reason, they are morons and they need a strong leader or they will remain scattered forever," Luke replied. "You should know by now that there is strength in numbers."
Danielle lived alone with Sylah for several weeks in her hometown, and they were unable to defeat so many monsters, but Luke did it, and he had some help. After all, Luke wasn’t someone who would try to bite more than he could chew. In any case, the group had to move for three days before they could find the origin of that earthquake. For some reason, they didn’t find any crystals along the way... probably because the owners decided that it wasn’t a good idea to set up a base close to a place where that happened.
The number of the dark elves had also been small since heading in that direction meant that they would go to the Sahuagins territory. Only those who were too dumb and panicked headed there...
In any case, what they found left them speechless... It was a massive crater that had almost five kilometers of radius. The depth... it was too dark to see, but Luke estimated that it was a few hundred meters deep... The area around the crater had been completely darkened by the heat of the explosion.
Everyone was completely silent... they knew that they could get quite strong using the system, but they couldn’t imagine themselves reaching that level. It was too surreal... the power to change a planet’s scenario and instantly destroy mountains. Luke began to walk around the place, and he found some flames here and there... dark flames that kept burning no matter what.
"This area is low on mana... I guess those flames kept going because it was rich in mana before," Rina explained.
Luke thought that Shalia’s orange flames were awesome, clearly one level above the others. Still... dark flames that used the surrounding mana to keep burning... that was just crazy. If someone gets hit by that, even if they have high Resistance, they would burn since the flames would use their own mana.
"Have you seen anything like this, Nambra?" Luke asked.
"... No," Nambra replied after a few seconds of hesitation.
For the first time, Luke could tell that Nambra was feeling something. It was a shock, in all senses. Nevertheless, Luke couldn’t even begin to understand that kind of power, but he knew that he wouldn’t reach that level following ordinary methods. He was already over level 250, and while he could destroy a city with his powers, he couldn’t instantly. At best, he probably could take down an entire block instantly by using all his strength... Still, it wasn’t nearly enough.
"I can’t just expect to buy skills using the shop... Instead of that, I should focus on buying potions and try to learn those myself," Luke thought.
Luke already could use water and Earth Manipulation, so he probably used those to learn new spells, but he couldn’t focus only on magic. The only issue was that he didn’t know how to learn physical skills yet. Still, he will have to... From that point onward, Luke truly will start his journey for power.
