Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf
Chapter 293: Realization (7)
"I am not sure if I buy this story," Shalia said. "You said that this is the first time you have looked for help on Earth, but that also sounds like a convenient excuse since you don’t know what our actions will result in. It is obvious that you are just full of crap, or you might be able to read minds."
"While I didn’t look for help in this world, as I said, I have met some of you, or my other versions did," Aivern said. "Thanks to that, I know how things may play out to a certain extent, but rather than that, there are many more things that I can assist you with and mistakes to help prevent."
"Such as," Luke said.
"Your relationship with Rina and Shalia," Aivern said. "In other universes, you end up with them sometimes, but you died because of that in all those times."
"Wait! How does that make any sense?" Rina asked, visibly shocked.
"Yeah, how does that make sense that my son would get her?" Mark asked. "It is crazy."
"Dad... Be quiet, please," Luke said after a long sigh.
"As you know, those two are quite pretty," Aivern said. "Their potential is also high. Given time, they can become a problem to the Legendary overlords, but the same can’t be said about you."
"What?" Luke asked.
"You manage to survive for quite a while, but many more powerful enemies get interested in those two, and they kill you to get them later," Aivern said.
"Who are the fuckers who think that I can be their prize for killing Luke?" Shalia asked. "I will put an ice pillar full of spikes on their ass."
"Whoa, hey now, language," Luke said. "There are kids listening."
"You sure are calm about this, Luke... After hearing that you were killed out of jealousy," Rina said.
"Well, that technically didn’t happen to me yet... So, there is no point in getting angry," Luke said.
Although he said that, Luke was thinking about the warning that he heard on the first day. Was it somehow related to that? He would get killed by overlords because they were jealous instead of worried about his power? That was annoying on so many levels... then again, who sent that message? Himself from another universe... That guy certainly would be a coward since the current Luke didn’t mind dying as long as he could make some babies with those two, but he was getting sidetracked while thinking about that.
"So, you think that ending my partnership with them will make a life for a while longer?" Luke asked. "If you really have seen me a few times, then you must know that I am not a coward."
"Yes, if it depends on your life alone, you won’t back down, but you aren’t exactly alone, right?" Aivern said.
Luke stopped to think about it... when the shit hits the fan, things get messy. The overlords would probably kill anyone related to their enemies to avoid problems later. So, Luke’s parents would be the most obvious targets.
"Still... that isn’t a problem that you have to worry about, for the time being, at least," Aivern said.
Aivern was right. Luke almost forgot about the situation in Shalia’s world. They still had some extra time. Still, it was better to return as soon as possible. However, he had to decide what to do with Aivern. Unlike his first assumption, he didn’t come for him. He came for the whole group.
"For the time being, you will stay with us, somewhere where I can always keep my eyes on you," Luke said. "You may have the knowledge of parallel universes, but there is always the chance that you don’t care anymore, and you are acting just because you have nothing better to do until the end."
"Well, you are that kind of person, after all," Aivern said.
Luke didn’t quite understand what he meant, but he decided to ignore it. In any case, he had to talk with the people of that fortress about how things will be from now on. Aivern’s power couldn’t be ignored, and Luke would need all the help he could get.
"That is it, folks," Luke said. "If you are unsatisfied with this guy’s presence, you will have to get used to it or leave. I will make sure that Frank one finds him or this place, but if my word isn’t enough for any of you..."
The people began to murmur amongst themselves. They weren’t quite sure about what they should do... but it seemed that those four put a lot of things in their heads in order to cause trouble. Speaking of which, to make sure that Frank won’t find them, Luke will take them to the dark elves’ world and then get rid of them right there. No point in being merciful with those that threatened the lives of his parents.
"Somehow... I feel like my world turned upside down with those news about the multiverse," Rachel said.
"I understand your feelings," Richter said.
"Hey, Luke," Celia said. "Are you still following that dangerous path?"
"I am thankful for your concern, but among the many things that I am and I can be, I am not an ungrateful fellow," Luke said. "Even if this path will lead me to doom, I can’t do anything else aside from moving forward."
While Luke and the others were sending the prisoners to the dark elves’ world, Celia and Amanda considered his words. He looked the same as usual, but Aiverni’s words must have affected him somehow... And yet, he didn’t even stop to consider the possibility of abandoning Rina and Shalia.
"Luke, shouldn’t you tell them about your new powers before leaving?" Shalia asked.
Luke sighed, but he decided to do as Shalia had asked... He explained to the others about the Overlord’s skills and their benefits. Still, no one was willing to sacrifice their freedom for power as one had imagined.
"See? I told you," Luke said.
