Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf
Chapter 340: Forward (5)
The next world that Luke appeared in was finally a normal one. There was a lot of green, yellow, white and blue. The main colors of a nice environment. Still, when he looked in the distance with more attentive eyes, Luke frowned when he saw some roads. Apparently, they were made of brick. So it seemed that the new world was like Rina and Shalia’s, but it was a bit too far apart from Earth in terms of development. Although that development came with some severe costs to the environment. Nevertheless, Luke didn’t have time to wonder about those kinds of problems when he had others.
"The roads are damaged, and they looked like they have been like that for quite a while..." Luke thought. "Still, at least it means this world has some intelligence species that were to think of ways to improve their lifestyle by changing the environment like that... It makes me wonder if they were born powerless like humans."
Elves didn’t need pavement because they didn’t need to learn to ride horses or drive carriages. That was why they didn’t try to develop roads. Luke guessed that the species of that world could be different from what he was used to. Still, he didn’t find any of them in the distance, or of monsters for that matter.
In any case, just thinking about it wouldn’t help Luke learn anything, so he made the flying fortress head to the road and followed that path. It didn’t take long for him to find a destroyed village. It was a simple village in which most houses were made of wood, but they still had things like power poles... Not like they were connected to anything. Regardless, some of those were damaged, but some were still working, and Luke decided to check them up close.
"Hmmn... This is... Not a conventional energy pole," Luke thought as he found a weird yellow stone inside the glass.
Luke touched it and found it pretty warm. The stone was emitting a lot of light as well. It was mid-afternoon, so Luke wondered if that was some sort of ore that absorbs sunlight and reflects until it needs to receive light again. That world had some weird things, but there were no signs of its inhabitants or monsters. Judging by the burned-down houses that were dusty and wet, Luke assumed that the place had been destroyed more than a few months ago. That wasn’t a good sign...
Luke quickly returned to his flying fortress, and then he began to look for other places. Thanks to the speed of the fortress, it didn’t take long for him to find other villages, towns, and even destroyed cities. There wasn’t a single sign of life. Luke didn’t consider that, but perhaps an overlord had already gone and killed everything that he could in order to get experience. Luke was planning to do the same with the monsters, so he wasn’t sure if she should feel pissed at that. First comes, first served.
While he was heading North, or what seemed to be the North of that world, Luke eventually found some traces of recent battles. The land was destroyed nearby some cities, and the ground was kind of wet and brown for some reason, even though the rest of the ground was yellow. Nevertheless, Luke didn’t find any traces of bodies.
"A necromancer... No doubt about it," Luke said and then sighed. "This complicates things."
Without bodies to use, Luke couldn’t make more skeletons to do his bidding. So, he would have to fight instead of leaving the work to them. Not to mention, if the necromancer got rid of the whole population, then he should have a stupid large skeleton army. Just thinking about it made Luke’s head hurt. A surprise attack like before probably will take some of them out, but not all of them.
In any case, Luke decided to look for the enemies before coming up with a plan. He left the flying fortress in orbit around the planet, and he wondered why the overlord was still nearby. At least it looked like he was on the world still.
"Oh, yeah... I can also do that if things get annoying," Luke nodded to himself in satisfaction while he was falling back into the world.
It was the last resort, or perhaps the resort before the last resort. In any case, as soon as he landed, Luke began to run toward North, and he noticed that the atmosphere was getting kind of heavy. His breathing was slightly different from before, like something weird was in the air...
"Poison?" Luke asked. "The sky is looking kind of purple on the horizon.
It didn’t take long for Luke to confirm that. He saw many swamps while he was heading to an area filled with dead vegetation. The smell emitted by those was quite intense, and Luke noticed that he was looking for some health. Thanks to his focus, he was recovering faster. Still, that might become a problem if the poison in the air gets thicker.
"Yep... This guy is helping me with my choice," Luke thought. "I guess it will be time for plan B again."
Luke decided to endure that for a while longer and let the poison increase his Resistance. He realized that the parameters of the armors were decreasing the effects of the poison, so only now did he realize that it was truly quite the harsh environment.
After a while, Luke finally found a flying fortress parked in the distance. That one wasn’t much bigger than his, but it emitted a weird aura if compared to others. The whole structure was also purple, like it was made of those poisonous swamps. Without a doubt, the overlord created that to have some advantage while they were on it. Still, Luke didn’t feel troubled by the situation. Against that level of an enemy, who needed to do that, he felt more like it was a chore.
