Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf
Chapter 359: Tower (5)
Luke knew that such a skill would be the key to finding his friends and parents, so he tried it right away. Clairvoyance worked like that. He could look for a place he had been, or someone or something he had seen before. The distance and the level of the skill determined the cost of mana.
"I am broke again, but I will save several upgrade crystals for this one. It will be my main goal to make it reach the highest level," Luke nodded to himself.
With all his mana, Luke could see his fortress that was in orbit. The skill leveled up only once after that... It certainly will take some time to make it level up... That would be the case without his dimension. Moreover, now that Luke could see things outside, he could make an exit that would lead to anywhere he wanted.
"Let’s make one mana clone practice that skill, and the other practice combat skills," Luke thought.
In the blink of an eye, Clairvoyance reached the heroic rank. Also, after using the status points he just got and allocating some into magic, Luke was able to see things on Earth. He saw Billy and his family working on building some walls around Miami.
"Maybe with the mana of a clone..." Luke thought while rubbing his chin.
Luke shook his head. Earth wasn’t that far away, and the vastness of the universe is truly insane. While finding them now would motivate Luke to get even more power, he knew that he wasn’t strong enough to defeat Aivern yet. He had managed to defeat two enemies at the same time that were at least three times stronger than him, but even so...
"I suppose I need a new trump card," Luke thought. "One of the same level as the mana clones."
Luke got really lucky that he found that method to suddenly become stronger since he had the right skills. So, finding something similar would be hard. Still, considering how the battles are escalating quickly lately, Luke might not have much of an option but do so.
In the end, considering his current set of skills, Luke didn’t have many ideas of how to become stronger, at least not without causing a scene. He couldn’t learn new abilities thanks to the coins that he used to learn Clairvoyance. Still, after thinking for a while and considering his battle experience, he wondered if he could make a weapon better than his katana. He had an idea of what kind of weapon he wanted, but he never saw one that had any similar effects.
"Let’s see, a weapon with similar effects to the soul steal ring, but that uses that energy to make itself stronger would be good. The more I slay enemies, the more powerful it would become," Luke thought while rubbing his chin. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Maybe it was about time for Luke to test his powers with Projection. The rank was already pretty high, so he had to at least try to create something that he had never seen before. The only problem was that such a weapon would need to consume his mana constantly to exist.
"I suppose Projection exists for something like this, to create what doesn’t exist," Luke thought.
Luke went to his dimension and began to work on that. The creation of a weapon that could become stronger over time. A sword would be his main preference, but Luke won’t mind if such an effect can only be obtained by other weapons. After several hours of tests, Luke realized that he could make weapons stronger that absorb his mana. Not only did he already know that, but it would make them consume even more mana since Projection would be doing that.
Luke tried some other things but always ended up with something similar. As expected, killing the enemies and making a single weapon stronger might be too much. He even tried some temporary effects that would weaken over time, but that failed as well. In the end, Luke was forced to take a break and then think more carefully about what he should do. Maybe he was using the wrong approach...
It seemed a bit risky, but after thinking for a while, Luke wondered if he couldn’t power up a weapon using his health instead of his mana. He had that idea after recalling the skills that could give him monster-like properties, like Vampire Physiology. That skill would make him able to drink blood and recover energy. It also would give him a bonus in terms of his parameters but would make him weaker during daylight. Naturally, he would be weaker against attributes of the element holy and light. Still, a weapon wasn’t a living being, so it could withstand without many problems.
Luke tried exactly that, but just creating a sword with those effects in mind didn’t work. In the end, Luke had to go as far as putting fangs on the handle of the sword that could pierce his hand and drink his blood. It was quite unsettling looking at his creation, but at least Luke got some result, finally.
Vampire Sword
A demonic sword that feeds on the blood of its wielder to become more powerful over time.
Strength + 01 (0/1000), Speed + 01 (0/1000), Intelligence + 01 (0/1000), Endurance + 01 (0/1000), Resistance + 01 (0/1000)
Durability: 200/200
Luke frowned when he saw the bonuses of the weapon. That wasn’t something that he had planned. In any case, it was the first weapon that increased almost all of his parameters, so it had potential. Also, the cost of mana to keep the weapon was quite low... probably because the bonuses of the weapon were weak, but that was fine for the time being. Also, the design of the weapon was really awesome. It was a red broadsword that was the size of Luke himself. It was simple, but that was why it looked so cool in Luke’s eyes.
Luke barely could feel the fangs on his hands. At first, he thought that his endurance was too high, but then he realized that those were piercing his skin with no problems. Most likely, the weapon was draining small amounts of blood because it was weaker, and that would increase over time. Regardless, Luke was losing around a point of health per second, and that was adding to the bars around the parameters of the weapons. He assumed that they would increase by one point when they reached the max. So, it means that Luke will have to wait for eight hours before the whole weapon gets those five points in the parameters.
"Wait... I suppose I can’t use this effect of the weapon in that dimension," Luke thought. "While the effects are basically made of mana, the weapon can’t use the fangs in there since it has proper will."
That was a bit of a problem, but it was convenient since it didn’t mean that the weapon would become stupidly powerful and then drain Luke’s blood insanely faster. He will have some time to work on his regeneration speed. Possibly, around one week until the weapon can overcome that.
"I guess I can always destroy it and start over if things get out of control, but I suppose trying to increase my recovery speed is something that will help more than a little bit," Luke thought.
Luke could always just keep fighting non-stop and make Vampirism help him with that, but he wasn’t a machine. He couldn’t keep on fighting for weeks, even more so against small fries since they were boring. Also, it was time to look for the next overlord.
"If only I could learn how I could reach the state of over health..." Luke said and then sighed.
In any case, Luke had rested enough and used his head too much between the previous battle and the next one, to the point that he felt that he lost some neurons, so he thought that it was time to look for the next overlord. However, before he could choose his next destination, Cresta appeared before him.
"It seems that you have been busy..." Cresta said while looking around that world and seeing what two overlords had turned that world into.
"You knew the overlords that invaded my friends’ world were so close?" Luke asked.
"No, we don’t investigate matters such as that," Cresta replied. "We find the enemies, and we kill them. If we can’t, we study their skills and then devise a plan to kill them. We don’t exactly follow the traces that they left behind."
Cresta and her friends couldn’t become even more detached from the problem of others, even those that fought with them more than they already were. If Luke hadn’t been helped by Rina and Shalia so many times, he probably would have become like them, and that annoyed the heck out of him. That was why he couldn’t complain much about their attitude. So, he decided to keep quiet about it.
"Putting that aside, we noticed some weird movements from some overlords, so we decided to follow them. As it turns out, they were heading to the same place," Cresta explained. "That was the first time that we saw something like this happening, so I guess your friend is related to that."
"... to where they headed?" Luke asked.
"I am not sure. We looked at it from far away, so we might have missed a few things," Cresta replied. "From what we saw, it seemed like a world... In the shape of a tower. It is hard to tell because the top of the tower is emitting a crazy energy reading of mana. It seems that some powerful relic is there that picked the interest of the overlords."
"It seems?" Luke asked while frowning.
"Yes, we can’t say for sure since there is something similar to a black hole at the end of the tower. There is no gravitational pull... unless you try to reach the top of the tower from outside instead of crossing it normally," Cresta said.
"It seems like a magic trap," Luke said.
"That is what we thought as well. Maybe someone is trying to get rid of all overlords. That is why I thought it was this so-called Aivern," Cresta said. "Considering the things that you said about him, I imagined that he could create something like that. Still, it might not be, and in the end, one crazy artifact might fall in the wrong hands."
Luke tried to recall the things that Aivern said. He said that the cosmos was in danger for some reason. He also said that Rina and Shalia had more potential than him. That was one of the reasons he was killed because they were his partners, but he thought they would need a few years to reach that level where they could become a threat to the big guns. It was impossible to say if that location was something that was supposed to appear at some point or if it was connected to the destruction of the cosmos.
Even if it was dangerous and Aivern might not be involved in that, Luke had to go and investigate since it was the quickest way to find overlords and kill them and then find a powerful artifact.
