Chapter 383: Payback (8)

When Luke turned around, he saw three homunculi slowly turning into himself, or at least a copy of himself. In any case, whoever programmed those things, they sure knew how to make things difficult. Overpowering them with the same tactic was possible, but it was better to use their brain against such creatures. Regardless, against someone like Luke and with the skill set that he had... Using those monsters was almost stupid.

As he had planned, Luke dashed toward them before they could assume their complete form. Much to his surprise, their changing speed suddenly increased when he approached. Still, his charge was just a trick, so it didn’t bother him. At the last moment, he used Space magic, and then he appeared behind the creatures with the frozen world katanas. Two of the homunculus were stabbed without having the chance to do anything, and then they were frozen. The last one turned around and tried to stab Luke, but that was also a feint to use space magic. The creature suddenly appeared behind Luke... Only to be melted by a pillar of light. Despite that, the creature quickly began to repair itself, just like that robot made of liquid metal. Regardless, Luke used another frozen world katana and then froze the beast.

Since the level of the homunculus increased with Luke’s, they began to give him more status points and experience... too much experience and gold coins. That was weird... Fighting opponents at the same level or higher than his was normal for Luke, but not like that. At that rate, Luke will become stupidly strong pretty fast... But he felt that there were some drawbacks. In any case, he went to check his followers and found them really struggling against the homunculus.

"Well now... saving them would make them realize that I am not planning to use them to do something bad, but that also will make them grow overdependent on me," Luke thought while he was flying above the area.

Helping them would actually help Luke since he would get more experience and coins, so he decided to do that. He appeared behind the homunculus and froze them with his katana. His followers frowned when he suddenly appeared, but then they quickly jumped in to finish the homunculus while Luke was holding them back.

Luke didn’t have the chance to transport them to his dimension, but it was fine for the time being since he gained lots of the experience and gold coins that those monsters gave. Regardless, his followers stopped to rest for a while since fighting against someone that was the same as them was a new and tiring experience. Unfortunately for them, more of those homunculus began to appear.

"As expected, something is off here..." Luke thought. "If they keep coming, some overlords will become stupidly strong. Still, that also means that the the homunculus will grow stronger and eventually, the battles will become crazy enough that we won’t have time to recover properly between battles... Is this the goal of this level?"

Luke assumed before that the flow of time was different on each of the floors, so the overlords on the highest levels would be at a disadvantage, but considering things on that floor, that assumption couldn’t be more wrong. Luke was getting confused again... Still, there wasn’t much else he could do aside from keeping on fighting until he found the next crystal.

"No matter what happens, don’t use your special skills, it will be troublesome if the homunculus began to use light magic and turn invisible," Luke said to his followers.

They already knew that since they had a lot more battle experience than Luke. However, it was clear that they only fought against opponents of that level as a group. In any case, after fighting for a while, Luke realized that the new homunculus didn’t carry the experience earned by the previous ones, which was a relief. Otherwise, eventually, even Luke would be unable to surprise them. However, things began to get nasty... the number of homunculus coming was increasing, and most of them were copying Luke’s parameters.

Luke stopped to think about what he should do in that kind of situation: keep fighting and getting stronger, and that was weird since it was what that floor was made for, or try to look for another alternative. He honestly didn’t know what he had to do... the answer should be obvious, but he learned a long time ago that not everything that shines is gold.

"Well... if this is a trap, then I will be sure to turn the tables around," Luke said and then touched the shop’s relic. "I will make sure to make the one who created this regret messing with me for so long..."

You learned the skill Telekinesis.

After spending 64 million gold coins to learn that skill, Luke summoned the frozen katanas and fired them at the homunculus without holding them back. They tried to do the same, but the power of their weapons paled in comparison. Luke realized that it was due to the mana that he put on the weapons beforehand. He learned another weakness of the homunculus... They could copy his actions, but not his preparation.

The katanas exploded when they entered contact with the others, and the mana spread across the area covering in ice everything, even the homunculus. Luke’s followers used that chance to attack. Meanwhile, Luke himself just made note projections and stored them after filling them with mana.

When Luke noticed that the homunculus was starting to counter well his Telekinesis, Luke went to his dimension and leveled up that skill a bit. Thanks to that, he learned another thing: the monsters could only copy his parameters once. They couldn’t improve themselves in the middle of the battle

It was hard to say for sure, but Luke felt that the days of that world were lounger... It took quite a while to get dark, after all. In any case, thanks to Luke’s hard work, things went well, but his followers were exhausted. They could see fifty slimes heading toward them to make things even more complicated. They won’t have peace even at night...

"This isn’t so bad... but eventually, even I won’t be able to stop them," Luke thought.

The reason for that was that even Luke could only use so much mana every time. The homunculus was also as sturdy as him, so he needed more and more mana to deal with one of them. Eventually, he would be able to kill hundreds of monsters that were as strong as him. A single mistake will cost his life and of his followers...

"I might be able to escape if I try some hit and run tactics, but I suppose these guys need a break," Luke thought. "More and more homunculus are appearing, copying me, so they won’t be able to keep up."

Since Luke could transmute anything into anything, food and water weren’t an issue. So, the only real problems were the number of monsters and the exhaustion of his troops. Considering the number of homunculi he killed, that wasn’t the solution to reach the next level either.

"It is possible that the next level is the last... Dozens of hours had passed since we came here, but no signs of other overlords," Luke thought. "So, I suppose I should just use this chance to level up like there is no tomorrow."

His followers were getting stronger too, but Luke felt that they would die due to some stray shot at this rate. Luke had already turned dozens of kilometers of green lands into ice fields, so perhaps one hundred or two hundred of those homunculi could destroy the world...

"Well, I just need to prevent that," Luke thought and then had an idea. "You guys stay back and cover me if something happens."

Luke’s followers nodded, even though they knew that it was pretty much suicide to stop moving when an army of homunculus was heading toward them. In any case, Luke transmuted some high-quality potions in his dimension, and once he had quite the stock, he returned to the real world. Eventually, some homunculus charged at him while pointing their weapons, but after they approached, they quickly disappeared. At the same time, Luke prepared to drink the potions, but that was unnecessary.

Once again, Luke confirmed the theory that the intensity of his memories determined the amount of his experience he gained after killing those monsters. Even though they were as strong as him and were getting stronger at the same pace as him, the experience wasn’t increasing that much. Regardless, Luke found a better way to deal with the enemies. His magic power had grown enough to send even beings like that to his dimension without giving them the chance to resist. That cost a lot of mana, but his mana was back to full with each level up, so it was fine. In any case, even if they were made of mana, the homunculus couldn’t do much against five mana clones equipped with the frozen world katana of the rare rank.

"Hahaha! Keep coming, you shitheads!" Luke laughed maniacally. "You think that you can kill me with numbers? Come and try!"

His followers had no idea what was going on, but they began to fear Luke even more since he was getting stronger every second and because he didn’t sound the same as before. The idea of getting powerful like that was getting on his head... He will assume that he won’t need their help at that rate. When he finished all the monsters and turned around, his followers couldn’t help but flinch. Still, things only get weirder from that onward.

"You guys should use this chance to rest as much as possible, more enemies will come and their numbers won’t decrease," Luke declared. "I can deal with them like this, but then you won’t become stronger."

Now that he thought about it, Luke probably could use his stupid mana recovery to summon one hell of a crazy monster. A super overpower pet would come in handy since they would be loyal without any contracts. In any case, he wanted to summon a dragon, but he didn’t remember seeing one. The homunculus may have enough mana to summon one, but Luke had other tricks up his sleeve.

For a second, Luke wondered if he should summon a human being... It would be wise to make them stronger the way he wanted, but then he quickly shook the idea out of his mind. If he does that, he will eventually try to summon a copy of his friends, and then things will only get messy from that point onward.
