Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf
Chapter 385: Payback (10)
The last part was something that Luke quite didn’t grasp, he could imagine what the voice was talking about considering all the thinking he had done while he was preparing, but in the end, he will only truly grasp everything once he sees with his own eyes.
"Aivern has defeated all the other overlords and is waiting for you," The voice said. "He proved himself once again to be unbeatable even against those that had learned ways to surpass their limits."
Another thing that Luke learned was the origin of those combination skills that he had found in the shop. All of them were broken and could easily defeat most monsters or even overlords. It was only natural... Combining time and gravity was like putting on someone’s chains that will eventually crush them, and they are almost impossible to get rid of. Those skills belonged to other overlords who reached the apex in the other resets. Also, weirdly enough, they were all people that had their limits forced to be surpassed by Aivern, but in the end, none of them managed to win against him.
Facing someone who had the knowledge of all of those combinations and probably could use them as well will be hard. However, Luke already assumed that something like that would happen. He spent years inside his dimension preparing his body, skills, and mind for that, after all. Even if he lacks experience and knowledge compared to Aivern, it wouldn’t matter. Luke was determined to pass through all that in one way or another.
"Before you go, there is one last thing you need to learn," The voice said. "This is our first and last attempt to solve the problem. The creation of this tower and everything in it cost us everything that we had. The final relic is probably our only and final bet to solve the issue. If it falls on Aivern’s hands... we doubt that he will use it for one last stand. He will use it to finish everything. This time, the worlds won’t be able to start a reset... the relic is that much powerful."
"What exactly can it do?" Luke asked.
"You will understand once you touch it, if you touch it," the voice said.
It seemed that the voice didn’t have much trust in Luke, considering it was made of the mana and thoughts of those who had fallen over the Resets. It wasn’t surprising. They might as be as depressed as Aivern. That was why they said to intervene while doing something that might as well help their enemy. Not to mention, the tower caused the death of many overlords and probably many chosen people of the worlds across the cosmos. Everything to give a chance for someone powerful enough to emerge to defeat Aivern and the last boss...
"Well, thank you for the short conversation, it has been a while since I heard a voice other than my own," Luke said and then distorted the space in front of him.
"We wish you good luck and we hope that you wouldn’t lose everything like us," the voice said.
After he heard that, Luke crossed the portal that he had connected to the place where he could feel Aivern. He messed with mana for so long in his last training session that he could easily feel Aivern presence. It was almost like he was standing behind him since he was no longer holding back his power. Regardless, Luke appeared at the top of the tower, and he saw some corpses around. They were overlords who had fallen by Aivern hands. Some people were covered in shadows, others who had demon-like wings and horns, blue elves, and some that had heads of animals and humanoid bodies.
The top of the tower was massive. Luke couldn’t even see the borders. It was like he was trying to see the ocean while he was in the middle of a continent. While he couldn’t see the borders, he could see the sky or, rather, the space. While he still was feeling the gravity, thanks to the massive size of the tower, he wasn’t inside any atmosphere. So, he could see the relic shining above him and the black hole ready to suck anything that approached. The answer for everything was on the right side... Why the cosmos were bound to be destroyed.
"You are late..." Aivern said. "I have been waiting for a very long time for this."
"To have your ass kicked? It will be my pleasure," Luke said.
"I was planning to face you around there, but I didn’t expect that some ghosts would get on the way and even create this whole thing," Aivern said. "Those who have fallen along the way shouldn’t try to get on the way of living..."
"Very convenient thing for you to say when you have a big advantage over everyone else," Luke said. "If it weren’t for your knowledge, you would have fallen a long time ago."
"It seems that you found some paths to the Absolute as well, and they weren’t quantified by the system,"Aivern said. "That is good, it means that you found something beyond the system. I did the right thing in putting you on the edge, this is probably the first time that this has happened."
"Ignoring all my words because they are inconvenient, huh?" Luke asked and then shrugged. "I expected nothing less. Now, tell me. Where are they? Try to say some bullshit and I will make you drink sulfuric acid."
"They are back on Earth now," Aivern said and then opened a portal that made Luke see Miami. He found his family and friends unconscious while the people living there were approaching and checking them since they suddenly appeared. "I have no use for them now that you are here, and you did what I wanted."
"Oh? That is good to hear," Luke said and then summoned his Soul Eater Sword. "You didn’t do what I wanted, but I predicted your moronic actions up to this point. Since you have a death wish, I will free you from your pathetic life."
Soul Eater Sword (Mythic)
It grants you the power to steal ten thousand points of mana from a target when causing damage.
Strength + 10.000, Speed + 10.000
Durability: 2000/2000
Aivern turned around and looked at the sword. The weapon was powerful enough to even have an aura on its own, and its movements even distorted the space around. Not to mention, the sword also could drain the mana from the surroundings, so it surpassed the limits that even the system had put on it. While Aivern had seen similar weapons, it seemed that Luke improved the weapon more than it was supposed to be possible with his knowledge.
"Relying on tools like that won’t help you achieve anything," Aivern said and then pointed his right hand toward Luke.
In the next moment, time stopped moving around Luke completely and in his body, and as if that wasn’t crazy enough, a black hole appeared in his stomach and destroyed half of his torso. Locking an opponent in a place and then using a powerful attack to wipe them out instantly. It was an efficient way of defeating foes that Aivern had mastered over the years.
"Relying on pride won’t help you as well," Luke said without moving an inch. "I suppose you would have a lot since this kind of tactic apparently is something that you like very much."
The space in front of Luke distorted, and then his body returned to normal. Aivern frowned when he saw that. It didn’t seem like Luke had used enough mana to make his body heal by going back in time. His first assumption was that he showed an illusion of what was supposed to happen. After all, Luke didn’t drop a single droplet of blood.
"I assumed that he would focus on light and time magic against me considering his preference of fighting up close and focus on decreasing the strength of his opponents, but perhaps I predicted wrong," Aivern thought.
Aivern could, but he decided not to watch Luke in the last few months. The reason was that he didn’t want to assume what would happen if they fought. Thanks to that, he got a few surprises, even the techniques that he developed to make himself stronger... but that illusion seemed way out of the curve.
"Let’s not use cheap tricks that can be easily countered... let’s have a real fight," Luke said. "You go all out and we go all out. There is no need to take our time... I am sure you have built up as much stress as me over time. so you must be itching for a fight like that."
Luke pointed his sword at Aivern, and then half of his torso was blown away to pieces. Now that he felt the attack, he could say what Luke had used. Time magic to make the attack land as soon as possible, darkness magic for the outburst of damage, and light magic to prevent instant healing.
"I suppose we can skip the pleasantries, then," Aivern said, and then his arms began to be enveloped by mana.
The mana in his arms began to increase in size and length until they began to look like blades. It was so intense that the mana could even be seen until his arms and the mana disappeared altogether. Luke has pushed away in the next moment while his armor was cut into bits.
Aivern wondered if he had gone too far in using light, dark, time, and even space magic against Luke. It might have been so long since he had gone all out that he might have killed Luke instantly. He had planned to make him gain some more experience in order to make him a worthy challenger, but perhaps that was impossible after all.
However, much to Aivern’s surprise, Luke’s presence didn’t disappear, nor did he get notifications for defeating him. After a couple of seconds, Luke returned. His armor was no longer there, and his shirt had been cut to pieces. His torso also had many cuts, but they were healing quite fast considering the combination of attacks that he had just received.
"Well, let’s get this over with, this isn’t a fight in a turn-based tactical RPG," Luke said, and then he charged.
Luke swung his sword and tried to split Aivern from head to toe. At the same time, the after image of his body performed a horizontal slash. So, it almost looked like Luke had two swords and four arms, but before they could land, the soul eater sword stopped midway, and Luke didn’t even see how since he couldn’t see the enemy’s arms.
A meteor fell from the sky and hit Luke in the next moment, but the huge block of Earth only split in two after touching his head. If Aivern thought that was funny, it only worked to make Luke frown.
Luke moved his sword forward, but then half of it disappeared. In the next moment, the other half appeared behind Aivern’s head, but then multiple copies also appeared and began to move to cut his head. In the end, he jumped backward and repelled the attack with his invisible arms. Even that beat trick that Luke developed connecting a single space distortion with many others didn’t work against him... Still, it wouldn’t be satisfying if it were easy.
When Luke prepared for the next attack, his arms suddenly were cut off. He had increased his defensive skills to the mythic rank, and such a thing still was possible... Regardless, Luke reattached the arms with Telekinesis, and then it began to heal insanely fast... Luke felt like an undead since he was able to shake it off that kind of wound.
