The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 68: Another Reason
Roselyn had weighed all the possible options in her mind and decided that leaving this place was the better. Besides, many men wanted to marry her back in Arcadia. She would better live a life with a man she didn’t love than watch the one she loved hurt her. And the only solution to that was going far away from him. And her father was always true. He never misled her.
"Go pack your things. We’ll be leaving soon," her father informed.
Roselyn simply nodded before she embraced her father, tighter this time. She had to do this for the sake of her happiness. Her mother always told her to be happy, and that was why she never questioned her when she decided to come to Valoria. Her father too had thought she would be happy but he was able to see through her pain.
The only thing that Valoria had brought to her was pain. Starting from Alexander to that damn maid. Sir Brandon had also never approved of this visit. Had he not been her personal knight, she knew he would be in Arcadia, enjoying his life. And come to think of him, she had not seen him the whole day. She needed to inform him that they were leaving. She could only imagine how happy he would be if he found out.
"I’ll go pack my things then," she said and excused herself. Roselyn’s father combed his hair with his fingers. He didn’t want to see his daughter suffer. But that was not the main reason why he wanted to take his daughter out of here. Valoria had committed a crime and she would be punished soon by almost all of the other states. He didn’t want his daughter to be trapped here when Valoria would be attacked.
And come to think of it, which side would he side with if the war broke out. Crescia, their eternal enemy, or Valoria, their long time allies. It was indeed a hard decision to make. If he sided with Valoria, the other kingdoms would turn against Arcadia and defeat him together with Valoria. And if he decided to support Crescia, which was almost impossible, he would have to fight against Alexander, and that, he didn’t like. He could only imagine his daughter’s face if he decided to fight against Valoria. And even if he had convinced her to leave him for good, he knew she still held feelings for him.
Roselyn paced through the hallways as she made to the guestroom with a heavy heart. But she had made up her mind and there was no turning back this time. She pushed the door open revealing what had now turned to be her room. How she would miss this place.
Her mind wandered to Alexander and she thought how he would react if he found out that she had gone. She tried to envision his worried or surprised face but all she could see was him laughing sinisterly. Of course he would. What did she expect from him? Of course he would be happy. He was being forced on her after all.
And the queen? Victoria had been the most supportive person Roselyn ever had since she set foot in Valoria. She was the one to always bring Alex closer to her even though it didn’t work. She had tried her very best to see that the two of them got married but as cold as the mighty Alex was, he declined her love, not once nor twice, countless times. Roselyn had even lost count of the times he had declined her love. Her feelings for him were pure but he didn’t see that. She could just hope that he would find someone to melt his ice sealed heart. But who could it be? That maid?
Roselyn believed that Alexander just wanted to use Isadora for his own gain and pleasure. But she knew he was not the type to hang around with just any woman. But why then did he pay so much attention to her. She folded another dress before she shook her head. Why was she even thinking of him when she would be gone out of this place?
The door to the room flew open revealing Sir Brandon. Roselyn looked at him before she rolled her eyes in disappointment.
"Don’t you know how to knock the door of a lady’s room?" She asked.
"I did Your Highness. But you were deaf enough to not hear it," he said striding in the room when he took notice of all the dresses placed on the large bed. Some were neatly folded and others were placed inside a bag.
"Are you going on a journey?" He asked crossing his arms over his chest. He leaned beside the dresser as he eyed Roselyn’s delicate back. Wicked thoughts ran through his mind but he was quick to push the bad thoughts out of his mind. ’This is Her Highness!’ He screamed to his mind.
"We are going back home," Roselyn said as she folded another dress. She didn’t need to look up to see the look on Brandon’s face, but for some odd reason, she took a quick peek through the mirror. Wait! Was that disappointment she saw on his face? She didn’t expect that. A surprised Brandon was the least she had expected, but disappointed? It was the last on her wish list.
"Aren’t you happy that we’re leaving?" She asked.
"Of course I am happy," he said walking closer to where she sat. "I hope you made this decision based on your mind. I want you to be happy." He said.
And now Roselyn was confused. Why would Brandon think she was not happy by making this decision? He, of all the people was the one who wanted to so badly leave this place. Why then the sudden change in attitude?
"I made the decision myself," she assured him. She folded the last dress before she placed it in her bag. "Could you help me carry this please," she said handing one of the bags to Brandon. He stared at it blankly before he took it into his hand. And without further talking, Roselyn walked out of the room. Brandon trailed closely behind her.
