The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 69: Happiness!
Roselyn was the last to leave the room though she was the first one to walk out. She was now holding the door with a mix of emotions swirling in her mind. This place had served as her home for some time and she would surely miss it. She glanced at the room one last time before she closed the door.
"Let’s go," she told a stunned Sir Brandon.
They both trailed heading towards the front of the palace. Roselyn now remembered that she had not informed anyone that she was leaving. Queen Victoria would be mad at her if she found out. Maybe it was good if she went and said her goodbyes. But how would the queen react? She had done everything for Roselyn to see that she lived happily in the palace. And here she was, wanting to just visit her and out of the blue, inform her that she was leaving. How ungrateful.
But the selfish part of her still wanted to go. She had to thank the queen for the help and kindness she showed to her the whole time she was in Valoria. Before she could think further, the royal Arcadian carriage zoomed by and halted right in front of them. The door opened and Roselyn’s father cocked his head outside.
"Hop in. We don’t have time," he said. Sir Brandon nodded and packed the bag in the trunk at the back of the carriage. He went to take the bag from Roselyn but found her standing there with a confused expression. His brows creased as he walked closer to where she was standing.
"What is it? Why are you standing there?" He asked.
Roselyn was now more confused than ever. Why did it feel so wrong to leave Valoria? Wasn’t this what she wanted? To go far away from the person who was hurting her the most. And yet here she was, thinking of quitting this journey. What’s wrong with you? She screamed to her mind.
But still, the selfish part of her wanted her to stay. But what good would come from staying in this place? She would only get hurt more. And what good was there in going back home? She would just get married to someone randomly selected by her father, or if she was lucky enough, she would be given the chance to select some random wealthy man or Lord to marry. But would that make her happy? So this was her father’s plan all along? Huh? To take her away from Alex to only marry her to some wealthy man. It now dawned on her that she would never find happiness in her home country. It was better staying here and getting hurt by Alexander than being forced to marry someone she didn’t like. That was at least what she thought.
"What are you thinking?" Brandon asked cocking his head to one side. He knew what she was thinking and he hated it. "Don’t even think of doing that." He warned.
"I can’t leave Brandon," she said taking a few steps back.
Roselyn’s father heard them argue and he stepped out of the carriage. His wife also followed him.
"What is going on here?" He asked stalking to where the two stood.
"Please tell Her Highness to stop doing whatever she is planning to," Brandon said holding his hand in the air as if Roselyn would run away.
"And what is it that you are planning to do, Roselyn," her father asked, now turning to face her. He could see the fear and insecurity on her face and he could only guess what she was planning to do.
"I’m sorry but I can’t come with you Father," she said in almost a whisper.
"What is happening here?" Queen Felista asked. Her husband had informed her that their daughter wanted to spend time with them before Valoria made a decision concerning the demands from Griffin. So she didn’t understand why Roselyn was acting as if she had been forced on this journey.
"We talked about this Roselyn. Do you want to spend your entire life watching the man you love hurting your feelings? Don’t be stupid and come with us now!" He said raising his voice now.
Roselyn shook her head making his anger boil like a blazing inferno. "There are many men out there. Lord Richberry has offered to be your husband. Will you turn him down?"
Roselyn was right. And now that her father said it, she was surprised that he had already found a man to marry her. So his intentions were to take her away from this place from the beginning. Maybe it was even the main reason why he attended Alexander’s funeral
"What’s going on here?" A familiar voice sounded from across the hallway. Everyone looked to see Queen Victoria stalking toward where they were with surprised looks. "Why are you carrying your bag, Roselyn?" She asked when she came near.
"Are you guys leaving already?" She asked looking at the surprised expressions of everyone. Of course, she was not blind. She could see the royal Arcadian carriage waiting and Roselyn holding a bag. But the situation here seemed worse.
"Can someone tell me what exactly is going on here?" Queen Felista said. She was also left out of this. Why was everyone acting strangely? Hadn’t her husband just informed her that everyone knew they were leaving? If that was so, why then was Queen Victoria acting this way?
"Yes. I also need to know what is going on here," Victoria said and crossed her arms over her chest.
"It’s my father," Roselyn began. "He wants me to leave this place and get married to someone else, something that I don’t want."
"King Henry? Why would you do that to your own daughter? Isn’t a child’s happiness supposed to be the first priority concerning their child?" Queen Victoria asked.
"Happiness?" Henry scoffed. "Do you know the meaning of happiness? Is forcing my daughter onto someone who doesn’t love her making her happy? Is it?" He asked, raising his voice now. He ran his fingers through his hair to calm himself down.
