The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 79: Traitor
The commotion that was going on inside Alexander’s room caught the attention of several knights, and soon, two knights barged into the room. They saw Alexander holding his head in pain while Isadora and Gareth were staring back at the knights, stunned. They saw the sword that Gareth held and assumed he was the one who had attacked Alexander. One of the knights went to check on Alexander’s condition.
"Drop your weapon and surrender," the other knight said, pointing his sword at Gareth. This amused him though. Instead, he ignored the knight and went to check on Isadora.
"Are you certain about this? Do you want me to get you out of here?" He asked. Isadora simply nodded. The pain of being rejected by Alexander was too much to bear. How could he even pretend to be a stranger to her? She was not supposed to fall for him in the first place. That was a huge mistake she realized she had committed and she fell for the enemy at that? She was going to show Alexander she really was. She was going to show him what was inside this naïve looking maid, and he’d curse the day he was born, or rather the day he fell in love with her. She threw a quick glance at him and saw that he was still holding his head in pain. Guilt flashed across her eyes but she was quick to dispose of the feeling. She had become too humane and that was the reason why she even fell in love with this monster of a man.
"Yes. Never been so sure. Just get me the hell out of here Gareth." She was not going to break into tears. Not now and not in front of Alexander.
The knight who had told Gareth to surrender his weapon looked at the whole scene in fascination. These guys were talking about getting out of here while he was ordering them to surrender. Or was he translucent that they couldn’t see or hear what he had said? He laughed hysterically at the thought.
"You guys are talking about getting out of here when you are going to the dungeon. How funny?" He said and laughed again before he became serious again. "Drop your sword now and face the wall," he said gesturing his colleague to go and tie Gareth.
"Is this funny now?" Gareth asked amused by what the knight had said. Getting out of here was a piece of cake to him. And he would have killed them right at the bat of his eye had he wanted to. His gaze shifted to Isadora and he could see how her expression had drastically changed. Something about her had changed as well that he couldn’t put his finger on. She now looked like the old friend he knew. The demoness he knew her to be. Maybe she needed some time to calm down.
"What are you talking about?" The knight asked. He looked suspiciously at what Gareth was doing.
"Watch," was all Gareth said. He drew Isadora in his arms before he gave the knight a meek smile, and just like that, they both vanished into thin air.
The knights looked at the place where the duo stood in disbelief. Was what they had seen even real? One of the knights blinked twice to confirm that he was indeed seeing real things and this was not some kind of a dream.
"Did you see that?" He asked his partner pointing at where Gareth and Isadora had stood before. "They just vanished into thin air!" He added in a whisper.
"Yes," the other said as if spellbound. Their eyes were still out when Alexander groaned in pain. "The prince!" The knight said and hurried to where Alexander stood.
"Are you alright?" He asked. "Please have a seat Your Highness," and turning to his colleague," get something to stop the bleeding." The other knight nodded and left to fetch a first aid kit or anything that could stop the bleeding.
Alexander held his head in pain before he let out another groan. His head had never hurt like this before. But why now? A blurry figure of someone playing a flute popped into his head. His eyes turned blood red as he tried to search for her face. She was wearing maiden attire as her hair danced in the wind. Then came the image of the same woman making his bead while he stared at her amusedly. And now he saw her face! His eyes widened in surprise and his headache suddenly stopped. Strange, he thought. So it had been her all this time?
Gareth materialized in Isadora’s room. For some odd reason, he didn’t want to let go of her. Her slim waist slid perfectly in his arms as if it was made for him. And Alexander dared touch her! He was really going to kill him now.
Isadora expected Gareth to release her from his embrace but strangely, he didn’t. She waited a bit longer but he didn’t move a bit. She gently pushed him and that’s when he released her from his embrace. He looked a little embarrassed by the situation but she could not blame him. She sat on her bed pondering what would happen when Gareth suddenly said,
"I’m going to kill Alexander right away." He started walking out of the room.
"No! Wait!" Isadora said halting Gareth on his tracks. He looked at her surprised. Why would she stop him to kill the person she so much wanted dead? So it was true. He could have believed what Griffin had said. Besides, Griffin was always right.
"But why Isadora?" He asked with a pained expression. Why would she love that brat when he hated him and wanted him dead? "Do you love him?" He asked taking a few steps closer to where Isadora stood. His eyes searched for any hint of emotion on her face but she gave out none. Isadora was thrown aback by the question. Did he already know?
"I don’t know what you are talking about Gareth," Isadora said taking a few steps back. The way Gareth was looking at her as he took steps closer to where she was was scaring her. What had got into him?
"Really? You don’t know what I’m talking about. Uncle was right," he said with a knowing expression. "And you know what we do to traitors. I will keep my word." He said before he unsheathed his sword.
