The Billionaire's Heir I Never Knew Was Mine
Chapter 164: I’m Sorry, Sienna
Instead of answering immediately, Sienna simply looked at him for a moment. She was trying to read his mood and understand what was bothering him.
However, before she could respond, Zachary reached for her hand. His fingers wrapped around hers, squeezing gently before he lifted her hand and pressed a kiss against the back of it.
"Why did you say that?" he asked again.
"Because you look unhappy."
The honesty of her answer made Zachary fall silent.
He took a deep breath and turned his gaze toward the window.
Watching him avoid her eyes only made Sienna more worried.
"Zach," she said softly, "what’s wrong?"
Another few seconds passed before he finally looked back at her.
"I’m sorry."
Even though he tried to appear calm, she could still see traces of frustration and disappointment lingering in his eyes.
"And now you’re apologizing to me for no reason..." She squeezed his hand. "Zach, why are you making me worry like this?"
Her voice carried genuine concern, and the way her fingers tightened around his hand made it clear that she desperately wanted him to tell her what was bothering him.
Zachary stared at her for a moment before leaning closer.
"I’m not regretting marrying you," he whispered. "I’m angry at myself because I couldn’t postpone my business trip."
The moment those words left his mouth, Sienna felt herself relax.
A weight she hadn’t realized she was carrying instantly disappeared. She had genuinely thought his mood had something to do with their marriage. Knowing it was only a work-related problem brought immediate relief.
Sienna remained quiet and allowed him to continue.
After taking another deep breath, Zachary leaned back against his seat.
"Because I canceled several important meetings and rushed back to see you, I now have to return there and finish everything."
He forced a small smile.
Unfortunately, the smile never fully reached his eyes.
"I wanted to bring you with me," he admitted. "But we don’t have enough time to arrange your visa."
His gaze softened as he looked at her.
"I feel bad about it. We just got married, and now I have to leave the country."
Sienna’s heart softened immediately. She could see how much the situation genuinely bothered him.
"Zach, don’t worry about me," she said with a reassuring smile. "I’ll be waiting for you to come back."
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"Thank you, my wife..."
Despite his gratitude, the frustration remained.
"But I still hate this. I hate that I can’t find a way to postpone this business trip for even a day."
His voice sounded heavier than before, making it obvious how disappointed he was.
"When are you leaving?"
"After I drop you off, I’m heading straight to the airport."
Her eyes widened. "That fast?"
Zachary nodded.
"Hmm. Now you see why I’m upset."
For a moment, neither of them said anything.
Their wedding day had barely begun, yet they were already talking about how work was forcing them to be apart.
Even so, as Sienna looked at the man beside her, she realized that this was simply another challenge they would have to face together. After all, they were husband and wife now.
However, something else soon began to bother Sienna.
She suddenly remembered what Zachary had told her before: once they officially married, she would move into his house. But now that he had to travel abroad immediately, how was she supposed to move in without him there?
Just imagining herself staying in that enormous house while he was overseas made her uneasy. One question after another surfaced in her mind.
’What if some of the staff disliked me?’
’What if his parents suddenly appeared while he was away?’
Even though Skylar lived there and had already accepted her wholeheartedly, she still couldn’t stop herself from worrying.
Sienna turned to him, intending to bring up the matter. However, when she saw him focusing on something on his iPad, she hesitated for a moment. He had already been troubled enough by his sudden business trip, and she didn’t want to add to his worries.
As though sensing her gaze, Zachary lifted his head and looked at her. He casually placed the iPad on his lap.
"What’s wrong? Is something worrying you?"
His question caught her by surprise.
Sometimes she still wondered how he could read her so easily.
Turning toward him fully, she nodded.
"It’s about moving into your house," she began carefully. "I think I should move in after you return. What do you think?"
Almost immediately, a slight frown formed on Zachary’s forehead.
"Why?" he asked in confusion.
"Because you won’t be there," she answered without hesitation. "So I think I’ll stay at my apartment for now, at least until you come back."
Zachary didn’t reply right away. Instead, his gaze remained on her face as though he were considering her words carefully.
A few moments later, he reached for her hand and gently squeezed it. His eyes briefly dropped to their intertwined fingers before returning to meet hers.
"Alright," he finally said. "Stay at your apartment for now. I also need to ask someone to make a few adjustments to our master bedroom."
The mention of their master bedroom instantly warmed her face.
There was nothing inappropriate about his words. They were husband and wife now. Even so, hearing him casually refer to it as their room made everything feel even more real.
"But once I return, you need to move in right away... You can’t delay any longer."
Sienna smiled and nodded.
"Hmm. I will."
Then, hoping to lighten his mood, she added playfully, "But don’t make me wait too long, Mr. Sterling..."
The teasing remark was meant to lighten the atmosphere, yet its effect on Zachary was not what she expected.
His gaze changed.
For the first time, she saw something deeper in his eyes—something warm and intense that made her suddenly forget what she had been about to say next.
Fortunately, before either of them could dwell on it further, the car slowly pulled up in front of the main entrance to her apartment building.
The ride had ended far sooner than she wanted.
