The Enhanced Doctor - Chapter 587 Liu Banxia is a bond
"Miao Rui, you guys keep an eye on the time. When the transplant team arrives, you will escort the patient on their final journey."
Liu Banxia walked over to Miao Rui.
"Okay, Teacher Liu, is there anything we need to pay particular attention to?" Miao Rui asked nervously. ššššš¬ššš·ššæšš”.ššøš
Liu Banxia shook his head. "Just maintain respect in your hearts. They deserve to be treated with courtesy."
Miao Rui hurriedly nodded, still feeling somewhat anxious.
At this moment, Shi Lei and the others, who had gone to eat earlier, also rushed back. Learning of the patientās familyās decision, they were deeply moved.
Although organ donation is the primary source for transplants, such occurrences are not frequent.
The Second Hospital didnāt perform many organ transplant surgeries each year precisely because donors were scarce. This patient could save at least three lives.
"Oh, President Liu, why are you so late today?" Zhou Qiang greeted Liu Banxia enthusiastically as he saw him leading the interns over for a meal.
"We got held up by something. I heard todayās Four-Joy Meatballs are good? Iāll have one," Liu Banxia said.
"You got it! Theyāre top-notch. You can always trust the quality of our meat here," Zhou Qiang said with a smile.
"Whatās with him? Why is he so enthusiastic today?" Liu Banxia asked.
"Iām thrilled! It looks like my contract for the cafeteria is pretty much secured," Zhou Qiang said.
"Vice Director Shen came for an inspection and gave his approval. He said our food has character and is reasonably priced, which reassured me. As long as I maintain this standard, no one else should be able to compete with me."
"I thought they had already renewed it for you. Donāt get too complacent. You still need to ensure the quality and quantity of every dish. That said, these Four-Joy Meatballs today are genuinely good," Liu Banxia remarked.
"See? While I might seem a bit unreliable at times, Iām absolutely genuine when it comes to cooking," Zhou Qiang said. "Food service is different from other businesses. You can get away with wearing so-so clothes or shoes, but if the food tastes bad, people wonāt come back."
"That makes sense. Add a chicken leg for our Dr. Liu; heās heading to the ābattlefieldā this afternoon," Liu Banxia nodded.
"Done! Whereās Dr. Su? Is someone missing? Is he on break?" Zhou Qiang asked.
"Heās working in the ICU. When he comes for his meal, give him a chicken leg too. Ah, speak of the devil, here he comes, and with Dr. Zhang, no less," Liu Banxia said, smiling and waving.
"Why are you guys eating so late today too?" Zhang Zhiyuan asked with a smile.
"I had a hunch youād show up. So, care to contribute?" Liu Banxia asked with a grin.
"Nonsense. If anyoneās contributing, it should be you. Iām training your troops here; you should be thanking me," Zhang Zhiyuan retorted.
"That car accident patient we sent to our ICU earlier will need another CT scan this afternoon. Thereās a chance of delayed hemorrhage, but it probably wonāt be too serious."
Liu Banxia nodded. "Todayās accident was quite tragic. The other victim is awaiting brain death confirmation. Heās an organ donor; Sister Fang has already completed the arrangements."
"I didnāt expect that. I thought there was only one," Zhang Zhiyuan said.
"Well... you never know when misfortune will strike. Su, how are you finding it after spending some time here?" Liu Banxia asked Su Wenhao.
Nibbling on a steamed bun, Su Wenhao grimaced. "Itās much more intense than our emergency admissions. Many patients are critically ill, and we have to monitor them constantly."
"Hehe, keep it up! Weāre all rooting for you," Liu Banxia said with a chuckle.
Su Wenhao felt helpless; even after transferring to the ICU for his internship, he still couldnāt escape Grand Devil Liuās torment.
The other interns, however, grew somewhat nervous.
In their small group, Su Wenhao was the most resilient and hardworking. Now that even he had voiced such an opinion, they could only imagine how tough life in the ICU must be.
"Oh, itās lively today! Brother Hui, why are you only just arriving? I thought youād already eaten," Liu Banxia said, noticing Xu Hui walking over.
"The patientās family came to see me just now; we chatted for a bit. The patientās condition is very good now. After a few days of medication, he should be ready for discharge," Xu Hui said.
"Hehe, freeing up space for our ICU. Once the patientās vital signs stabilize, weāll extubate and transfer him back," Zhang Zhiyuan said with a smile.
"Donāt even get me started! That patientās condition this morning really scared me. President Liu, buy me a chicken leg to calm my nerves. Manager Zhou, President Liu agreed! A big chicken leg, please!" Xu Hui declared before heading off to get his food.
Liu Banxia felt utterly helpless; heād been robbed! He had worked hard to help with the diagnosis, and now he had to pay the price of a chicken leg.
"Teacher Liu, do you think we should set up a cafeteria in our Emergency Center? Isnāt walking all the way here too much of a waste of time?" Xu Yino asked.
"Logically, we should have one, but no space was allocated for it during the initial planning. So, weāll just have to make do," Liu Banxia said.
"Anyway, itās fine. Life is about movement, right? Itās just a short walk. Manager Zhou is already so busy; we canāt add to his burden."
"Alright, alright, Iāll add an extra dish for you all tonight, how about that?" Zhou Qiang, who had approached them, said with a resigned sigh.
"Haha, I knew Manager Zhou was the best! He always takes the best care of us interns," Xu Yino said with a giggle.
"Sigh... thatās true. I can only really chat with you guys; I donāt quite connect with others," Zhou Qiang remarked pensively.
Everyone turned to look at Liu Banxia.
"Why are you all looking at me? These stir-fried cabbage slices with vinegar are pretty good today too," Liu Banxia said, picking some up with his chopsticks and putting them in his mouth.
"Youāre the common link, arenāt you? With you around, everyone gradually connects," Xu Hui chimed in, having finished getting his food.
"You might as well just call me a chatterbox. I really am a bit restless; if thereās nothing to do, I just want to chat," Liu Banxia said.
"This mealtime is pretty much our only break, right? We have to use this time to relax our minds; otherwise, the days are just too stressful."
"Havenāt you noticed that we doctors seem to be graying faster? We worry too much, and the pressure is immense. Someone without a certain level of stress tolerance really canāt do our job."
"Didnāt you hear? Old Zhang from the Municipal Hospital, same age as me, died of a heart attack last night," Xu Hui said.
"This illness... even we doctors canāt guard against it. He had a check-up last year, and this year he didnāt make it. You all need to take care of your bodies too; itās just too exhausting."
A wave of melancholy washed over the group. He was a colleague, and news affecting a colleague always hit harder.
"So, you all need to eat more, like me. Eating well, plus appropriate exercise, will generally improve your health," Liu Banxia said.
The interns looked at him with a helpless expression; no matter how hard they tried, they could never match his appetite.
"You guys... are really lucky," Xu Hui began.
"Being the first batch of interns in the Emergency Center and having a mentor like President Liu is why youāve gotten so many opportunities."
"Itās only because heās so daring that he lets you try everything. In all my years of work, Iāve never seen anyone like him. Take liver surgeries, for instance. Just being able to observe is a big deal. How many actually get a chance to operate?"
"Hehe, I guess you could say Iām following a tradition. Director Zhou dared to let me operate, so I dare to let them operate," Liu Banxia said with a wide grin.
"So, you need to keep this up. When new interns arrive in a few months, try to train them well too. The people you train will save us in Internal Medicine a lot of trouble," Xu Hui said.
The interns chuckled, but quickly lowered their heads and focused on their food when they noticed Liu Banxiaās expression.
They had almost forgotten one thing: Grand Devil Liu had said that when the new interns arrived, the current interns would have to guide them, and that would be a real headache for them.
"By the way, Internal Medicine is getting another attending physician. That should mostly solve our problems, right?" Liu Banxia asked.
Xu Hui nodded. "Three people are always better than two. And the interns weāre mentoring can also help out. Plus Cardiology and Neurology, we can basically cover General Internal Medicine."
"Currently, patients coming to our Emergency Center canāt be precisely triaged by specialty yet. But that wonāt be an issue for long; itāll all be sorted out soon, right?"
"Yeah, Iāll have to make some rounds in the inpatient department upstairs later. The departments up there are mostly set up, and our Emergency Center has the necessary equipment," Liu Banxia said.
"I need to get them to move over sooner. Take ENT, for example. Their work might seem insignificant, but they actually handle a surprisingly large and impactful caseload. Iāve encountered several cases that seemed very complex but were nothing major for ENT."
"Talking ill of people behind their backs, tsk tsk, thatās not good."
Liu Banxia had barely finished speaking when Du Fancheng, an attending from the Otolaryngology department, chimed in.
Liu Banxia turned his head, looking a bit exasperated. "Whatās up? Is eating late a trend today? Doctor Du, how did you end up with Brother Guan? One is ENT, the other Proctology. Your specialties are quite far apart."
Guan Wei rolled his eyes. "Canāt we be classmates? We just chose different specialties later on, thatās all. Why does everyone else get chicken legs to gnaw on? Manager Zhou, President Liu also said to give us chicken legs!"
Everyone burst into laughter. Xu Hui had just used that exact trick, and it seemed to be quite effective.
Zhou Qiang knew Liu Banxiaās personality well enough to understand he wouldnāt mind parting with a couple of chicken legs. Not only did he give them two chicken legs, but he also brought Liu Banxia another Four-Joy Meatball.
"Hehe, donāt get too cocky now. Just wait until youāre all in the Emergency Center. Weāll see how I torment you then," Liu Banxia said with a sinister laugh.
"Thatās for the future. This chicken leg is delicious right now. By the way, our Director Jiang was asking about you. He said you havenāt even gone to see him since the New Year. Forgetting your roots, huh?" Guan Wei said.
"Sigh... I guess Iāll go see him after dinner. Itās just been really busy," Liu Banxia nodded.
Zhou Qiang watched them, deeply moved. Thatās Liu Banxia for you, he thought. Heās like a bond, able to connect everyone.
Usually, doctors would just find any seat, eat, and leave. Only Liu Banxia could truly bring people together like this, fostering such camaraderie.
