Chapter 86 - 158 (4)
Wait, If I just stay in here then I won’t worry about dying.
But what about the rest of the people.
The dragon scales had stopped trembling, meaning that I’m within range of clarity of Incus.
Vertere and Alleus should be near her as well.
There were still people left that have yet to be evacuated.
Scowling, I leapt outside.
Change of plans, killing that demon is too heavy of a task, and it it uses that jagged way of attacking with its legs then I’ll be cornered.
So instead, I’ll take the rest of the people and transport them here to this camp.
Dropping back to the ground, the spider demon continued chasing me and just as expected, it was using the jagged attack to pierce at me.
Furthermore, it was using the tents to conceal it’s attacks.
A cunning demon, the worst kind of demon.
Throwing open the drape, I would quickly glance if there was anybody in them and if not I would move on to the next and repeat.
Eventually, I stumbled upon two sisters.
"Follow me it’s dangerous to stay here!" I shouted hastily.
"No way you creep—!"
Multiple legs of the demon the tackled me with a barrage of attacks.
Slightly raising my left leg, I began skidding back.
One of the legs then became jagged and turned it’s trajectory towards the sisters that was inside the tent.
"No!" Gritting my teeth, I swung at the legs with the blade, the wind blade making it ricochet away.
"Hurry up and come with me if you don’t want to die!" I extended my hands.
Visibly shaken, they hesitated to accept my hand but eventually agreed and held my hand.
Pulling them towards me, I sheathed the fire hero’s sword and carried both of them on my shoulder.
Manuevering to dodge the peircing legs, I tossed them inside the tent.
"Huh, what’s going on?" The young man inside the tent asked, "Who are these people?"
"From now on, I’ll be throwing people your way. Make sure to catch them." I turned my back towards him and began running at the direction of the sea of tents.
"W-Wait—!" The young man called for me but I was already too far ahead.
Continuing this loop of grabbing people and throwing them at the tent, my chest grew tight and my breathing became heavier.
Spitting mucus to the side, I nearly fell to my knees.
"No... there’s still much more people left that I need to save." I said with a horse breath.
The dragon scales had also dispersed and I’ve used strengthening twice already, I’ve reached the limit of it’s uses.
"Scales, strengthen my legs." But nothing happened.
I can’t call for them to strengthen my limbs, I won’t even bother asking for it protect me in the sense of increasing my defense.
But the command to act like a tendon for my left leg was still in effect.
"Scales, make sure to block any on coming attacks." The scales then dispersed, except for the ones around my leg.
Opening a tent, an entire family of six—no, seven people were curled up against each other.
"Come with me if you want to live, there’s no time to explain." I extended my hand to them, my body battered and beaten.
"You must be a knight to evacuate us!" The man who seemed to be the father stood up, "Come on, let’s go with him."
Standing up one after another, the family followed behind me.
The dragon scales were deflecting the attacks, by scraping them to the side, but the demon was attacking even faster than it was ever before.
"You see that tent over there!" I pointed at the tent where commander Cage was currently resting, "Run there and you’ll be safe!"
Stomping at me, the father grabbed me by the collar.
"Are you insane, I thought you were going to evacuate us, not lead us to our deaths!" The father shouted, his spit getting all over my face.
"There’s a commander in there, and a healer who will explain everything... just believe me, as I knight I wouldn’t dare lying to you in such a scenario." Of course this is a lie and I’m sure that the healer has caught on that the spider demon’s attacks were going through the tent.
Swatting the father’s hand off my collar, I stepped out of the way.
"Fine, but if you’re lying then I’ll make sure to drag you to hell." The father intentionally bumped his shoulder against me.
The rest of the family however bowed and gave me their gratitude.
As they walked towards the tent, the sound of the dragon scales clashing against something became louder.
Looking up, the spider demon’s legs were pushing back the scales.
"Hurry up, I won’t be able hold back the spider demon—!"
Shouting, one of the legs had slipped through the defense of scales and was headed straight for the grandfather of the family who was moving too slow.
It should be fine if he dies, he’s lived a long life.
No, what am I thinking.
Dashing at the old man, I took the fire hero’s sword out of it’s scabbard and deflected the demon leg.
But it changed trajectory, turning sharp corners.
Spinning around me in a jagged line, I continued parrying the demon leg but it had wrapped around me without me noticing.
I was too focused on blocking the attack.
"Wait, he’s in danger!" The little boy from the family stopped in his tracks, making the rest of the family turn.
Turning around, I gave a gentle smile.
"Don’t worry, this is nothing... hurry up and head inside the tent." I then clenched my teeth, refusing the blood that was welling up from escaping my mouth.
Turning around, the father pushed the rest of the family inside the tent.
Finally opening my mouth, I coughed out blood and the demon’s leg had unwrapped around me.
A hole had punctured through my stomach, as the demon’s leg left my body.
