Chapter 1185: Searching in the Magicless Area

Magicless Area in a place where everything is covered with ice and snow. That’s really not a place for someone to live.

Maybe there’s a village near the Magicless Area there. I’ll just check all over the place then.

"Oh, I can’t use magic now," I said as my breathing returned to normal. My air magic doesn’t work anymore. The air magic that lets me breathe in normal temperature air. Now I’m breathing in cold air.

"Alright. First, we will see how large the Magicless Area is. Maybe it covers even the place that is not covered with snow," Victoria said.

And I agree with her. So while riding Ray who can’t run in the air anymore, we check the place where we can’t use magic.

We can actually check the area by letting Ray run in the air outside of the Magicless Area. And whenever he falls, it means that he’s in the Magicless Area.

But that’s too much for Ray. And it means that I have to push Ray outside of the area whenever it happens so he won’t fall to the ground.

That’s why I decided to just use air magic constantly. And when I can’t use it, it means I’m in the Magicless Area.

So I’m moving around the edge of the Magicless Area.

We only know that there’s a Magicless Area in the snowy area but we don’t know how big it is.

It’s funny that when jumped over a cliff, Ray couldn’t use magic and unable to run in the air so we were both falling. But I ended up carrying Spot since I can run in the air using Aura.

That happened a few more times that I feel like this is the first time I’ve seen Ray looked annoyed.

"Fine, you can go back to Monsters World and I will go on my own."

That’s what I said to Ray before opening a portal for him. Now I need to run on my own.

"Victoria, how’s the mapping of the area?" I asked.

"The Magicless Area should be a circle. As for how big, I still don’t know compared to the map of the continent. But it should be huge," Victoria said.

So we will end up running around the circle the size of a country. Or maybe more.

I should have let Ray stay here then.

It will take weeks or months then. Well, I hope I have the time for that.

The others... they can do whatever they want. There are other summoners who can bring them back home and here. It should be no problem for them.

Well, it’s not like I can’t do anything. I’m still going back to rest whenever I’m tired. It’s just that I only feel a bit sluggish after three days of running. Though I can run for much longer if I want to, I prefer to rest when I feel a bit sluggish.

After a week, I encountered a city right outside of the Magicless Area. And we’re not in the snowy area anymore. Though the climate is still cold, people can still plant crops here as there are farms.

"That’s too big. Must be already under the control of the cult," I said.

"Maybe some cities have the lords forced to work for them. It’s not like everyone did it willingly. Just like Veronica and Celestine," Victoria said.

"That won’t be for me to discover. Some of the agents will do it in the future. Let’s mark the city first. Was it on the map?" I asked Victoria. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"No. It’s not a city that the villagers know. We should really try and steal a map of this continent somehow," Victoria said.

"I think only big cities will have that. Maybe a capital of a country. And we’re nowhere near any of them right now. Let’s ignore that city and continue mapping the exact size of the Magicless Area," I said.

The next few weeks, we found some other villages and cities. But they are all already under the control of the cult.

And after two more weeks, we finally returned back to where we started. We have run around the Magicless Area.

So far, in the coldest area, there are no villages or cities. But in the warmer area, we found some.

"So, after we check the entirety of the Magicless Area we will check the snowy area to find cities or villages," I said.

That’s right. I doubt the cult will put much effort in conquering a place that is so cold. But we still have to be careful," Victoria said.

"So, how will we do it?" I asked.

"I think it will be fine to call Ray as long as the terrain is not too difficult to traverse in the Magicless Area. You will go straight line from my clone that we left here to the clone directly on the other side by passing through the center. With the size, I think doing it six times from different location like a clock will be enough. We’ll just do it anyway," Victoria said.

"And I won’t rest until I pass through the Magicless Area. Or at least I will camp there. That should be okay," I said.

I will rest after I pass the Magicless Area. Then after enough rest, I will do it again.

I have spread more than twelve Blobbies around the Magicless Area. But we will focus on the twelve Blobbies first to make it like a clock. If we can’t find anything after six times, I will search outside the Magicless Area and go to the snowy area right away.

After resting for a day, it’s time to go through the Magicless Area for the first time.

I’m riding on Ray as we don’t see any difficult terrain for him to traverse. But when we do, we stopped before I carried Ray to the other side.

The first time was from the north. If we’re looking at a clock and place the number 12 at north, then 6 is south. We’re going 12 to 6 first.

We didn’t find anything after a few days. There is not even a monster in sight. No humans either.

Next was 1 to 7. Still nothing.

2 to 8 as well. But on 3 to 9, I found traces of a settlement.

"Under the snow, there are traces of buildings. At least there used to be a village at least here in the past. But it was a long time ago," I said.

"I guess the climate is too hard for anyone if they can’t use magic. So they left. Alright, two more routes before we check the north," Victoria said.

And other than the traces of the village, I didn’t find anything.

The Magicless Area is huge. I’m sure there are places I haven’t seen yet. But I’m bored of checking this place again and again. So I gave up.

"With the climate so cold, I’m sure that there should be a place where an ice element magic stones can be mined. Maybe the specialty of the mages in this continent is ice magic. There might be more master level ice mages here," I said.

"If they are master level ice mages, then the cold will not be a bother at all to them," Victoria said.

Sure it won’t. They are resistant to cold.

"Ray, this time, you should be able to run around freely. Let’s go north!" I said.

And we move north to an even colder place.

Another reason we expect the people there, if they actually live there, to not be related to the cult is because it should be difficult for even master level wind mages to go there with how cold it is.

Maybe a master level wind mages who is also a fire mage or an ice mage can endure the cold. But even for me, it took a while to travel the Magicless Area. So we’re pretty sure that the cult won’t go there.

Maybe it’s a refugee village. Built by the people escaping from the cult just like the fishing village. We will know if we can find one.

On the sixth day after we started searching outside the Magicless Area, we finally found one. The climate, even though it’s cold, it’s not as cold as before. And there’s a frozen lake nearby. Just the surface is frozen. Below that, there are a lot of fish swimming around.

"We finally found one village. What should we do?" I asked.

"Another traveling doctor?" Victoria suggested.

"Will that even work? It will be suspicious," I said.

"Let’s go back first and discuss it with the others," Victoria said.

That’s what we should do.

The villagers there will be suspicious if a doctor suddenly appeared. And that doctor was not even a fire mage or an ice mage. He’s just a summoner.

Can I pretend that the slime I summoned is protecting me from the cold?

Yes, Victoria actually can do that. But this is still not a normal place that anyone wants to go to.

If they are with the cult, then I’ll kill them all. If they are not with the cult, they will be wary of me at all times and they can’t really trust me.

Should I wait until they are planning on assassinating me just like before? Maybe I should.
