Chapter 1097: As He Intended

The Necromancer King seemed already prepared for a surprise attack. The moment Aldrian’s strike was blocked by the dark barrier, he turned his body and launched a counterattack toward Aldrian.

He unleashed the wind element and combined it with poison laws, forming a poisonous whirlwind. The entire hall instantly filled with toxic wind, and the violent storm destroyed nearly a quarter of the building.

The whirlwind tore through the structure and burst outside, sending debris flying into the air. The disturbance immediately alerted the devils nearby.

The immortals who had spread across different parts of the city all turned toward the same direction before rushing back to the city hall.

Inside the hall, Aldrian stood in the middle of the poisonous wind. However, he remained completely still, as if the attack had no effect on him at all.

Necromancer King could not see clearly because of his own poisonous storm, yet he could still sense Aldrian’s presence. What he sensed astonished him. Aldrian was still standing in the same place, facing his direction as if the poison had not affected him in the slightest.

Necromancer King had also comprehended poison laws, and the toxin he used was a special one called Corpse Poison. It directly attacked the souls of living beings, making it extremely difficult to defend against or detoxify.

Yet the figure before him appeared completely unharmed.

"I have to say, you are the first being who survived my first assassination attempt. That deserves applause," Aldrian said behind his mask as he slowly clapped.

With the final clap, the poison in the surrounding area was swept away as if pushed aside by a wind. Necromancer King could finally see Aldrian clearly.

Necromancer King was stunned, but he still maintained a confident posture. He frowned and spoke.

"Are you the one who killed the followers of our god? Are you a follower of God Arvegis?"

"What do you think, Varkan Deather?" Aldrian asked in return, which made Necromancer King’s eyes widen in shock.

Before he could say anything, the devil cultivators who had left not long ago rushed inside. In less than three seconds, they surrounded Aldrian and blocked every escape path.

Their expressions were filled with boiling anger. For the undead, just as Necromancer King had told them about the Death Karmic connection, Aldrian’s presence affected them. Their anger surged and their desire for revenge rose.

"You. You are the one who killed me!" Ulsin shouted with a fierce expression.

Aldrian showed no panic. He only glanced at the devils calmly before turning his gaze toward the Necromancer King, who at this moment looked at him with trembling eyes.

Ulsin felt humiliated after being ignored. He could not hold back any longer. His aura burst outward and dark energy armor formed around his body, making him look like a death knight.

However, before he could do anything more, Ulsin suddenly felt something grasp his soul, causing extreme pain. He immediately lost control of his body and the dark energy around him quickly disappeared.

"Uughh!" he groaned in pain as he fell to his knees and clutched his head.

"Don’t do anything stupid. There is something I need to know from him," Necromancer King said in a cold voice.

The other devils immediately understood that Necromancer King was the one who had done it. Ulsin had already become the Necromancer King’s undead, and Necromancer King could control his undead however he wished.

Necromancer King then turned his focus to Aldrian, who seemed completely unconcerned even though every escape path had already been blocked. He did not believe Aldrian could escape while surrounded by so many powerful devils.

With ten immortals present, it should be more than enough to trap this man, which irritated him even more.

Still, Aldrian’s relaxed posture gave him an uneasy feeling. It was as if everything was still within Aldrian’s control.

"You... are you from the higher heaven? How do you know that name?" Necromancer King asked solemnly.

"Why should I tell you? Maybe I came from the higher heaven, or maybe not," Aldrian answered in a mocking tone, causing the Necromancer King’s expression to turn ugly.

The other devils also looked more furious, yet Aldrian continued speaking while casually scratching the back of his head.

It was as if he had grown tired of playing with them.

"Aish, whatever. Why are you even asking that? Are you really that dumb? Why do you think I know that name? Anyway, I think my role here is done. I have already been discovered. Let us meet again in the future."

The moment he finished speaking, Necromancer King did not hesitate to unleash his technique in an attempt to trap Aldrian.

"No! You will not escape!" he shouted as dark energy engulfed the place where Aldrian was standing. The darkness quickly swallowed his figure.

The other devils also unleashed their own techniques to prevent Aldrian from escaping. They prepared to capture him, but when the dark energy faded, Aldrian’s figure had already disappeared.

The Necromancer King gritted his teeth as he realized that Aldrian had escaped!

’Damnit!’

The other devils quickly realized it as well, and shock spread across their faces. To think that the man could still escape even after being surrounded by all of them.

How was that possible?

"Spread out! Form the net formation and do not let him escape this city block! Every undead will support the formation!" Necromancer King shouted his orders.

Without wasting a second, all the devils, including the undead, disappeared from the hall. Only Zeskia remained as she approached Necromancer King.

"My lord, did that man try to attack you?" she asked.

Necromancer King nodded. "Yes. And now I finally understand why he was difficult to sense. His concealment technique is based on pseudo death laws, and he seems more proficient in it than I am. Luckily, I could sense his death aura when he appeared near me. If not for that, I would have become another name on his kill count."

Hearing that, Zeskia widened her eyes in astonishment.

"What? An assassin who comprehends pseudo death laws? Then what about the net formation, my lord? He could escape again if we do not do something about it."

"Those undead can detect the death aura produced by pseudo death laws. They will sense him if he comes near them," Necromancer King replied.

Zeskia nodded in understanding, but her expression soon turned thoughtful.

"I have never heard of an assassin who comprehends pseudo death laws. Moreover, he seems to be a follower of God Arvegis. Did he really come from the higher heaven?"

Necromancer King did not answer immediately. He simply looked at the place where Aldrian had been standing.

"That man... he came from the higher heaven. I am certain of it," he said after a few seconds of silence. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

When he first heard about a follower of God Arvegis appearing in the First Heaven, he had been shocked. However, he initially thought that someone in the First Heaven might have somehow obtained a cultivation technique belonging to the followers of God Arvegis.

But that assumption shattered the moment Aldrian called him by his real name, a name known only to beings of the Second Heaven. There was no doubt in his mind that Aldrian came from there, or at least had passed through the Second Heaven.

Hearing the certainty in the Necromancer King’s voice, Zeskia narrowed her eyes.

"If that is the case, then did he truly infiltrate the First Heaven? If so, did he do it with the knowledge of his god... or without it? What about the God’s Covenant?" she asked.

Necromancer King could not answer that question. This matter had already touched something whose consequences would be beyond his control.

If the follower of God Arvegis had descended with the knowledge of their god, or perhaps even under their god’s direct order, then what about the God’s Covenant?

He did not believe that the infiltration by the follower of God Arvegis was known to his God. If God Tarius had known about them, he would have already informed him or the other overlords through a messenger.

If this truly was an infiltration where even God Tarius himself did not know about it, then it was the same as provoking their god and asking for confrontation, perhaps even war.

’I don’t understand what is happening in the Highest Heaven, but this is a serious matter. Whatever happened up there, we must report everything here to our god,’ Necromancer King thought.

He then turned and walked out of the city hall.

"Zeskia, return to Arsien Star and report this to the messenger. His Excellency has not yet left the First Heaven, as he is still waiting for further confirmation regarding this matter. I know he will understand the gravity of the situation once you inform him."

"Understood, my lord," Zeskia replied before her body disappeared.

The Necromancer King’s eyes gleamed dangerously as he stepped outside the city hall.

’Now let us hunt that man first. I have some questions for him,’ he thought.

While Necromancer King left the city hall to search for Aldrian, the man himself was already high in the sky, quietly observing everything using his domain sense, or as he used to call it in the past, Eyes of the Heaven.

From what he heard, he finally understood why Necromancer King had been able to block his attack.

He needed to fix the weakness in his concealment technique so that the same thing would not happen again in the future. After all, there were others who had comprehended pseudo death laws.

As for the rest of what he heard, he was truly satisfied that his plan was working exactly as he intended. That brief interaction with Necromancer King was enough to erase any doubt about his identity.

In their minds, his identity at this moment was that of a follower of God Arvegis from the higher heaven.

That way, the situation would grow even bigger.

He needed this matter to keep escalating.

’Now, let’s wait for a while. After that, I can finally begin my journey to the center of heaven.’
