The Smiling Death
Chapter 423: With Selena (1)
Amon walked towards her and stood in front of her.
"Hello, Senior."
Selena gave him a small nod. "Hello, Amon... you look... really different."
"Yeah... my hair had grown, and I got some cuts."
She extended her hand and touched his cheek.
Amon flinched at her smooth touch.
"Hmm... let’s sit inside the car. We can talk there." She pulled back her hand and sat inside the car.
Amon sat beside her. The servants closed the door as the car engine started.
"Do you want to go somewhere?" she asked Amon.
He replied to her, "Yes. I want to cure these cut marks on my face and body, if possible."
She nodded. "Okay. Got it." She turned forward and told the driver, "Take us to the temple."
Amon turned sideways to look at her. "Then—"
Before he could speak anything further, she moved and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a hug.
Amon was taken aback at first, but then relaxed in her arms. He wrapped his hands around her as well.
His cheek rested against her shoulder.
Then realization came. She was a princess– he could not hug her like this.
What if the driver and the servant sitting in the front passenger seat saw this?
"Senior! You shouldn’t hug me like this in public!!" Amon said while looking around.
Only to see the driver focused on driving while the other servant looked forward, not wondering about what was going on behind.
No one was looking at them. Selena released him from the hug after a while and looked into his eyes.
"Don’t worry. They won’t say anything. I can do whatever I want."
"Okay, okay, I got that. I won’t worry... but... you know... hehe~" Amon suddenly blushed.
Selena was surprised to see this young man actually getting shy. He was shameless after all. And even when he looked shy, it was mostly an act.
"What happened, Amon? Why are you shy suddenly?" she asked curiously.
Amon couldn’t help but want to tell her. "Actually... while I was lost on the island... I met a woman... and now... we are a couple. Hehe~"
Selena’s eyes went wide.
She opened her mouth but closed it again as no words came out.
She was really shocked.
"So, when you hug me... I kind of felt bad. I shouldn’t be doing such things with another woman."
"Sorry. I think it was wrong... I was... just happy seeing you back."
"Oh, it’s alright. I never said I hate getting hugged by you, hehe~"
She gave a small smirk. "I guess so. That’s more like you."
Then, with curious eyes, she asked, "But who is she? What’s her name? How did you become a couple?"
Amon smiled proudly and said, "I will tell you, but not now. When I get my hair cut, remove my cut marks, and then get some new clothes. After that we will have a long talk over everything that happened... what I have gone through."
"Okay, that’s better."
---
The car halted before the temple.
Amon stepped out beside Selena and lifted his gaze.
The structure before them was grand and solemn, built entirely from polished white marble that gleamed softly under the morning sunlight.
Tall pillars stood in perfect alignment at the entrance, each carved with delicate patterns of vines, wings, and flowing light. The surface of the walls reflected a faint glow, as if the stone itself held a quiet divinity within.
Wide marble steps led upward to massive doors engraved with intricate symbols—circles within circles, representing purity, life, and protection.
The air around the temple felt different.
Even the noise of the port seemed to fade the closer one stood to it.
"...So this is the temple," Amon muttered under his breath, his eyes observing every detail.
Selena glanced at him briefly before walking forward. "Come."
They climbed the steps together.
As they entered, a gentle warmth wrapped around them.
Inside, the temple was vast and open. Sunlight filtered through tall stained-glass windows, casting soft colors of gold, blue, and white across the marble floor. The air carried a faint scent of incense, calming the senses.
Rows of long benches were arranged neatly, though only a few people were present, silently praying.
At the far end stood the altar.
And behind it, an idol.
Amon’s steps slowed slightly as he looked at it.
The statue was of a woman, carved with unmatched elegance. Her figure was graceful, draped in flowing robes. But her face was hidden. A thin veil covered it completely. Only her form could be seen, not her identity.
After all, no one had ever seen the face of the Light Goddess.
It gave off a strange feeling. Not unsettling, but... mysterious.
Selena simply walked forward and stopped before the altar.
Amon followed.
Both of them stood there for a moment.
Then Selena gently closed her eyes and bowed her head.
Amon hesitated for a second before doing the same.
They prayed in silence.
No words were spoken, yet the quiet atmosphere made it feel as though something... or someone... was listening.
Amon came to the temple after many years. After a few moments, Selena opened her eyes.
"Let’s go," she said softly.
They stepped aside from the altar and walked toward a side chamber where a priest was waiting.
The man was elderly, with white hair and a long beard. His robes were pure white, lined with faint golden patterns. His presence alone carried a sense of calm authority.
The moment he saw Selena, he bowed deeply.
"Your Highness," he said respectfully.
Selena gave a small nod. "I need your assistance. Help him clear those marks."
The priest’s gaze shifted toward Amon, carefully observing him for a moment.
"I understand," he said calmly.
He gestured for Amon to step forward.
Amon did so.
The priest reached into a nearby shelf and took out a small vial filled with a glowing liquid.
"A high-grade potion," he said.
Amon took it without hesitation and drank it.
The moment the liquid slid down his throat, he felt warmth spreading through his body.
But that was only the beginning.
The priest raised his hand and began chanting softly.
A faint golden light formed around Amon. The air vibrated gently. Then the light intensified.
Amon’s body stiffened slightly as he felt something moving beneath his skin. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
The cuts and burn marks began to fade. The scars that once marked his face and body vanished as if they had never existed.
The damaged skin restored itself, smooth and clean.
Selena watched silently from the side, her eyes fixed on him.
The light slowly faded. The spell ended. Amon stood there, blinking once.
He touched his face. Then his arms.
"...It’s gone," he muttered.
Not a single mark remained. He turned toward the priest with a grateful expression. "Thank you."
The old man simply nodded with a gentle smile.
Amon then turned toward Selena.
A wide grin spread across his face.
"Now I’m looking more handsome," he said confidently.
Selena looked at him for a moment... then let out a faint sigh.
"Let’s go to the salon."
---
After leaving the temple, they traveled through the streets of the capital city. She told her driver to remain close to the temple.
While the two of them decided to walk through the streets. Soon, they arrived at a salon. Amon sat in the chair as a worker began trimming his long hair.
Strands of dark hair fell one by one.
The messy length was reduced, shaped neatly.
Slowly, his appearance returned to how it once was– clean, sharp, and well-kept.
When it was done, Amon looked at himself in the mirror.
"...Much better," he said with satisfaction.
Selena nodded slightly. "Yes."
---
After that, they went to a clothing shop. Amon picked out a simple outfit.
Black trousers. A full-sleeve plain white shirt.
He changed into it.
When he stepped out, his appearance had completely transformed.
Amon stretched his arms slightly, feeling comfortable.
"...Feels good to be back," he said with a relaxed smile.
Selena looked at him quietly.
For a moment, she didn’t say anything. After all, he was actually looking handsome.
"Let’s go," she said calmly. She didn’t try to give him a compliment, since she knew he might act narcissistic after that.
So together, they stepped out once again.
