Renee Jennings disabled the donation feature on her stream.

"Alright, that’s it for the stream today."

[No, streamer, don’t go! Keep the call-ins coming, we want to see more!]

[Streamer, when are you on tomorrow?]

"I’m not sure if I’ll even be streaming." Renee waved at the camera. "Signing off now. Goodbye, everyone~"

While the viewers cried for her not to leave, Renee simply smiled and clicked the button to end the stream.

She lifted her arms and stretched. Just as her phone screen went dark, it lit up again with an incoming call from Henry Stark.

Renee answered the call, and a man’s low, gentle voice drifted into her ear.

"Renee, stream’s over?"

Renee raised an eyebrow, a smile playing on her lips. "Were you watching?"

"Yeah, for a while now." Henry Stark chuckled. "Are you free tomorrow?"

"A new case?" Renee’s tone instantly turned serious. "I’m free."

"Not a new case," Henry Stark explained gently. "Your official letter of appointment as a special consultant for criminal investigations is coming through tomorrow. We’ll need you to come down to the station."

"There’s an official letter of appointment?" Renee asked, surprised.

"That’s right. You also need to complete a registration for special talents," Henry Stark said.

"What time should I be there tomorrow?"

"Ten in the morning. I’ll pick you up from Blissborne Garden."

"Alright. See you tomorrow, then."

Renee hung up, raising a hand to rub her shoulder, then her lower back.

"Am I getting old? My back aches after just sitting for a little while," she grumbled.

Hearing this, Slider asked curiously, "Renee, how old are you?"

"I’m twenty-three," Renee said.

Slider clicked his tongue. "That really is a bit old."

Renee was left speechless.

Hearing this, Blueberry let out an indignant meow. "What are you talking about, you stinking turtle? Renee is so young! How is she old?"

"She’s already twenty-three. How is that young?" Slider retorted. "Jasmine is four. Now that’s young."

"Bullshit! You don’t know anything..." Blueberry pawed threateningly at the terrarium.

The turtle and the cat started bickering again.

Blueberry was defending her, but Renee felt it would be awkward to take sides, so she got up and walked over to the balcony to watch the sunset.

「The next day.」

Renee Jennings and Henry Stark arrived at the police station together and were led directly to Quentin Lowell’s office.

Inside the office, besides Quentin Lowell, was another middle-aged man.

Renee thought he looked familiar, but she couldn’t quite place him.

"Director Lowell," she said, offering a proper greeting before giving the familiar man a slight nod. "Hello, sir."

"Ah, Kane, you’ve arrived," Quentin Lowell said with a chuckle. "Let me introduce you. This is the mayor of Zenvia City, Mr. Wyatt."

Renee’s eyes flickered, a flash of surprise followed by dawning realization.

’So he’s the mayor. No wonder he looked familiar.’

Frederick Wyatt looked at her, his eyes smiling. "Hello, Kane."

"Hello, Mr. Mayor." Renee met his gaze, her heart thumping with nerves.

’She never imagined she’d get to meet such a high-ranking official.’

"Please, have a seat," Frederick Wyatt said gently. "Don’t be nervous. I often hear Lowell singing your praises. I just happened to have some free time today and thought I’d drop by for a chat."

Even though the mayor told her not to be nervous, Renee couldn’t relax. She sat down with her back ramrod straight.

"I watched your stream yesterday," Frederick Wyatt said, a smile never leaving his face. "You saved two girls and a kitten. That was wonderful."

Renee forced herself to appear calm. "Oh, not at all. It was just a coincidence."

Undisguised admiration shone in Frederick Wyatt’s eyes. "You’re being too modest, Kane. The country is in great need of exceptional people with special skills like yours."

"I’m very willing to contribute to the country," Renee said, a determined light shining in her eyes.

"Good! That’s wonderful!" Frederick Wyatt was genuinely delighted.

There were many people with extraordinary abilities in the world, but most were either arrogant and aloof or eccentric recluses. Cooperating with them required a tremendous amount of effort and energy.

It was incredibly rare to find someone like Renee, who possessed such a strong sense of civic duty.

The more Frederick Wyatt thought about it, the more excited he became. "Lowell, your department has found a real treasure for the country!"

Quentin Lowell’s face beamed with pride. "Of course!"

’Are they being a little dramatic?’

Renee felt a little embarrassed by all the praise and bashfully lowered her gaze.

Quentin Lowell and Frederick Wyatt quickly suppressed their smiles, and the director handed her the official letter of appointment.

"From now on, you’re one of us, Kane," he said with a warm laugh.

Meeting his kind, amiable smile, Renee suddenly felt the letter of appointment grow heavy in her hands, as if it were burning her fingers.

After leaving the director’s office, the tension in Renee’s stiff back finally began to ease.

Seeing this, a faint smile touched Henry Stark’s lips. "You don’t have to be so tense," he said softly. "They aren’t that intimidating."

"I know," Renee said with a sigh. "It’s just an instinctive reaction. Like a student in front of their teacher."

"Renee!" Sawyer called out, seeing her emerge from the director’s office. "I have your work ID here."

Renee walked over to Sawyer and took the ID card. "Thanks, Sawyer."

Sawyer waved her hand with a smile. "Don’t mention it. I don’t have an ID photo for you, so you’ll just have to put one in yourself later."

"Okay." Renee nodded.

Just then, Kyle Morgan called her name. "Renee, over here for a sec."

This time, it was for the special talent registration.

Renee carefully filled out the form.

Kyle Morgan carefully put the registration form away, then looked up with a brilliant smile. "Renee, welcome to the team! Should we go out and celebrate?"

Henry Stark walked up to Renee’s side and said coolly, "Lunch is on me."

Kyle Morgan’s eyes lit up, and he cheered, "Alright!"

For lunch, the group went to a small restaurant across the street from the station for a simple meal.

After they finished lunch, Renee couldn’t help but voice the question that had been bugging her. "Now that I’ve accepted this appointment, does that mean I have to come to the station to work every day like you guys?"

She had just looked at the letter, and it only listed the benefits and compensation.

"No," Henry Stark explained with a smile. "You’re classified as a special talent, so you only need to come in when there’s a case. The rest of the time is yours to schedule freely. However, you will need to file a report if you plan on leaving Zenvia City."

Renee was speechless.

She sighed. It suddenly felt like her personal freedom had been restricted.

Before leaving the station, she asked about the baby macaque case.

Henry Stark’s expression grew more somber. "It’s still under investigation. The perpetrators are being very cautious. I’ll let you know as soon as we have news."

"Okay." Renee nodded.

As she was leaving the station, Henry Stark offered to drive her home, but she refused.

"No, thanks. I’m part of the department now. I should start commuting on my own," Renee said before turning to leave.

Kyle Morgan sidled up to Henry Stark and muttered, "How come Renee doesn’t look happy at all about landing such a cushy job?"

"Yeah, she even looked a little wistful walking away, didn’t she?" Sawyer added, suddenly appearing on Henry Stark’s other side.

Henry Stark was speechless.

He shot them a look. "Got nothing better to do?" he asked coldly.

Kyle Morgan and Sawyer immediately pretended to be busy.
