"Boom..."

Just as everyone was at a loss, Morlix moved. He turned into a streak of light and shot straight through the massive tentacle in front of him, driving forward at full speed.

He knew his target was ahead.

"Follow Morlix, push through!"

With someone finally taking the lead, the others roared and charged as well, throwing themselves into battle against the tentacles. The strongest among them stayed tight on Morlix’s heels. They only had one goal, destroy the heart of the Enemy of Life.

Boom!

One tentacle after another whipped toward Morlix, thick and endless. Every single one was large enough to wipe out hundreds of thousands in a sweep.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...

Morlix stayed calm. Carrying the energy cannon God had bestowed on them, he fired again and again. His shots were precise and devastating, every blast striking true and blowing apart another tentacle.

He exhaled after clearing a path, the slightest trace of relief crossing his face. Then he activated the sub-light personal thruster God had given him, pushing it to maximum output and accelerating to a speed infinitely close to light itself.

Wherever Morlix passed, the gas-filled space ignited into a blazing trail. It burned like a tongue of fire through the darkness, guiding everyone behind him onward.

"Stay on Morlix!"

The fighters behind him fixed their eyes on that burning path and followed as closely as they could, terrified of losing sight of him.

And so Morlix charged ahead like a man with cheat codes, unstoppable, no tentacle able to block his way, until at last he reached a gigantic black hole.

It was a warped black abyss, a dark cavity that bent all surrounding space inward like the inside of a bowl. Morlix tried to go around it, but no matter which direction he took, he always ended up back near the same black void.

"Tch."

He clicked his tongue and tried to figure out how to proceed.

"Go in. Enter that black hole."

Just as he was wondering what to do, a voice suddenly echoed in his ear.

"Go in through there?"

He knew that voice. It was God’s voice, the same one that had allowed him to survive the destruction of his homeworld.

"Then I keep moving."

Once he made up his mind, he didn’t hesitate. He flew straight into the black hole.

Inside, Morlix kept moving through space.

At first, nothing felt strange. The inside looked much like the outside, countless corrupted planets floating in the void. Everything was pitch-black, but aside from that, nothing seemed especially unusual.

Boom!

The instant he relaxed his guard, something like a massive white boulder dropped from above and crushed him downward into a bottomless black abyss.

Wind howled in his ears.

No matter how he struggled, he couldn’t break free from the overwhelming pressure.

Pinned under that giant mass, Morlix kept plunging into the endless darkness. By the time his whole body had gone numb and he had completely lost track of how long he’d been crushed beneath it, he finally saw what lay at the bottom of the abyss, another enormous white slab.

Boom!

With a sky-splitting impact, Morlix was smashed into fragments between the two massive white stones.

Boom!

At the instant his body shattered, the huge white slab that had been pressing him down slowly rose again.

"Hmph."

Though torn apart, Morlix let out a cold snort as his body began knitting itself back together. As one of Boros’s kin, and someone even stronger than Boros, being torn to pieces wasn’t enough to kill him.

Once he had regenerated, he looked up and finally understood what had crushed him and driven him downward. They were colossal white walls so immense that his naked eye could not perceive their full size, length, or height.

"Damn it. My equipment’s all gone. Looks like I’ll have to rely on my own energy from here on out."

Cursing under his breath, Morlix became a blur and sped off again in the direction he instinctively knew he had to go.

Not long after accelerating at sub-light speed, he sensed another disturbance in the surrounding space.

"No, I need to go faster!"

Knowing how terrifying those white masses were, Morlix pushed himself harder, nearly reaching the limit of physics, no, beginning to break past it.

Boom!

The moment he escaped the crushing range of those white walls and reached a crimson sea, the white walls slammed shut again behind him.

"Aaaah!!"

A chorus of horrific screams erupted behind him.

"Tch."

Morlix turned around. In the distance, he could vaguely make out hundreds of thousands being ground to pieces beneath those giant white walls, but there was nothing he could do.

"I can’t waste any more time!"

Once he accepted that, he pressed on. He knew that only by completely destroying the Enemy of Life could this universe still be saved, only then could everyone here live in peace and happiness again.

Boom!

As Morlix surged ahead, enormous shockwaves exploded across the crimson sea.

Maybe because he was causing too much disturbance, the sea suddenly churned with towering waves. Then a vast red monster, so huge its edges couldn’t be seen, rose from the water and lunged at him.

"Urgh..."

Caught off guard, Morlix was dragged into the sea by the red creature.

The instant he entered the water, he felt his body being corroded.

"This water’s wrong?!"

He immediately realized he couldn’t afford contact with it. It would rapidly drain the energy inside him.

Sizzle...

Then the surface of his body began to boil.

The giant red thing wrapped around him was secreting a liquid capable of corroding him, and it was even stronger than the sea around them.

"So this isn’t seawater. It’s diluted fluid left behind after that monster dissolved other life-forms."

Morlix’s eyes widened as he understood. He knew he had to keep moving. He absolutely could not stop here.

"Looks like I’ll have to make a sacrifice."

At last, he resolved himself. He would go all out right here.

"Full Energy Release! Collapsing Star Roaring Cannon!!"

In an instant, Morlix unleashed all the power in his body. After God’s alteration, he had gained strength specifically meant to kill the Enemy of Life. Purple energy erupted from him and blasted straight through the crimson monster, tearing open a massive hole.

"Now!"

The moment he saw the opening he had created, he accelerated and shot through it toward the outside.

Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle...

As he passed through the gap, the red monster’s body began healing at a visible speed.

"I can see the outside!"

Morlix kept moving. He had no idea how long he had maintained that full-power state, but eventually, as he pushed forward without stopping, he finally saw black space ahead.

Hope.

He poured out everything he had and forced himself to move even faster, determined to break through the gigantic red monster.

Bang!

At last, wrapped in a storm of burning air, Morlix burst out through the creature’s body. At the very same instant, the monster sealed itself back up.

"I have to keep going!"

He flexed his body and looked ahead. There was only one direction left to him, forward.

But just as he was about to continue, he suddenly felt his body grow heavy.

A thought flashed through his mind. His face changed instantly as he looked down.

Sure enough, his feet had fused together with the red monster.

"Tch."

His eyes sharpened. He raised the edge of his hand, and a spray of red arced through the air.

Morlix cut off both of his feet.

Boom!

He didn’t even bother regenerating them right away. Instead, he pushed himself onward as fast as possible.

Though the damned monster ambushed him a few more times after that, it failed to do any real damage. He kept going until he reached a gigantic abyss.

Morlix stood at the edge and stared down into its depths.

Boom!

The moment he looked in, an endless torrent of air erupted from the abyss and blasted him away.

Splash.

His body crashed back into the crimson sea, and only stopped when he struck the soft body of the red monster lurking beneath its surface.

"Damn it!"

Burning with energy, Morlix tore through the surrounding water and shot back out above the sea.

"Morlix! Can you hear me?"

Just as he was trying to figure out how to deal with the abyss, a voice suddenly reached his ears.

"Hm?!"

He turned around and looked everywhere.

"Morlix, are you searching for me? Don’t bother. I’m not near you."

"I’m speaking to you by telepathy. God enhanced my powers so I can stay connected to all of you at any time."

As Morlix searched for the speaker, the voice rang out again.

"...I understand. Where are all of you now?"

Realizing he would never find the speaker physically, Morlix asked the question instead.

"We’ve passed through the White Fang Mountains and we’re getting ready to cross this red sea."

The voice came again.

"The White Fang Mountains?"

Morlix frowned, confused.

"Yeah. Those two rows of giant white stones, bigger than any planet, look like teeth, so we started calling them the White Fang Mountains."

The one speaking to him explained where the name came from.

"The White Fang Mountains..."

"The red, soft-bodied monster..."

"I understand now..."

The moment he heard that explanation, Morlix suddenly understood something. Staring at the abyss in front of him, he realized exactly how to pass this chasm-like barrier.

"Listen to me. What’s ahead is too dangerous, so don’t keep advancing!"

"Leave everything to me. I’ll be the one to destroy the heart!"

Morlix sent the warning to his comrades through telepathy.

"I’m afraid that’s not possible..."

But all his teammate could do was answer with those five helpless words.

On the other side, Octopus and the others, who had just passed through the "teeth," were staring at a gigantic red soft-bodied monster so vast it had no visible boundaries.

"We’ve already run into the tongue."

Octopus sighed.

Boom!

The next second, the tongue came crashing down, and the telepathic connection between the octopus alien and Morlix was severed instantly.

"Damn it!"

Morlix cursed furiously. He knew that in that moment, his teammates had all vanished. The road ahead belonged to him alone now.

"Move!"

He glared ahead. He had to keep going.

Whoosh!

The instant Morlix reached the abyss, a massive torrent of air burst upward, but this time he was ready. He raised an energy barrier and endured it with everything he had.

After some time, he suddenly felt the airflow at the entrance slow, and then the air began getting sucked back down into the depths.

"Now!"

He knew this was his chance. If he wanted to kill the Enemy of Life, he had to seize this moment.

Without the slightest hesitation, he jumped into the enormous abyss.

His body fell with the endless current of air, dropping and dropping...

Until he arrived in a brilliant sea of stars.

For a moment, Morlix was mesmerized by the radiant world before him. It was unbelievably beautiful. Unlike the outside, not a trace of corruption could be found here.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

Just as he was being drawn in by the sight, a series of booming sounds echoed into his ears.

Morlix followed the sound with his eyes and finally locked onto a direction within that starry expanse.

He became a streak of purple light and rushed toward it.

He didn’t know how long he traveled. He only knew that by the time he was nearly exhausted and could no longer maintain sub-light speed, he finally found a crimson planet.

It was absurdly huge, far beyond any planet he had ever seen in the known universe. Judging from the energy feedback alone, it was no smaller in scale than the Milky Way itself.

Morlix didn’t hesitate. He flew straight down to it.

He knew the heart he was looking for had to be on this impossibly massive world.

"So soft!"

The moment his feet touched the surface, he felt the strange softness beneath him, and his face changed immediately. A terrible premonition rose in his heart.

Thump!

Then the entire surface of the "planet" convulsed in one enormous tremor, throwing Morlix off it.

Only then did he know his suspicion had been right.

This gigantic "planet" was the heart they had been searching for.

But that realization brought him no joy. Instead, he frowned in frustration, because he discovered he had no way to destroy something this immense.

"One last try."

"If this fails, then everything was doomed from the start."

He let out a slow breath and steeled himself again. He intended to use his final strike to sacrifice himself against the heart before him. If it worked, the heart would die. If it failed, it wouldn’t matter to him anymore, because he would die in the attempt.

Boom!

The moment Morlix made his choice, endless energy flared around him. Terrifying power burst from his body. With God’s blessing upon him, his strength had risen to a level far beyond what it once was.

And now, he would use that immense power God had granted him to annihilate everything before him.

"If I were you, I wouldn’t do that." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Just as Morlix was about to strike, an illusory voice full of endless majesty rang in his ears.

"Huh?"

The instant he heard it, his body froze in place. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to attack anymore, he simply could not.

The next second, Morlix rose into the air.

From his perspective, he saw a king wearing a golden crown, surrounded by countless star-rivers, seated upon a throne made from the piled bones of innumerable alien races, quietly watching him.

...

Morlix could not see that being’s face clearly. Everything about this sudden existence before him lay beyond the bounds of his understanding. It was not something he could look at, question, hear, or even think about.

"Return to your source now, child."

As Morlix stood there in confusion, the voice spoke again, and in an instant his body broke apart into countless streams of energy. Yes, to the being before him, killing him was easier than a human crushing an ant.

After Morlix died, a transparent, formless, strange energy floated out of his body and drifted lightly into the hand of that unseeable king.

"A fine weight."

Holding a set of scales, the king seemed to be measuring the energy within Morlix.

"This should be enough for quite a few human geniuses to be born."

The king murmured to himself as he accepted the mysterious energy that had come from Morlix’s body.

To be precise, what the king had harvested was Morlix’s soul.
