Chapter 36: Chapter 25 Confrontation

"Can you now tell me where my stuff has gone?" Faming asked with a smile, yet this smile appeared to the thieves of the Black Tiger Stockade as nothing short of a demon’s grin.

Having witnessed Faming’s strength, they dared not conceal anything, meticulously recounting everything that had occurred at the pawnshop.

As Faming listened, his brow furrowed. The mysterious Young Master Lin, a gift to celebrate an elder’s birthday—the trail seemed to break off there. Amongst the vast sea of people, where could he begin to search for this unknown Lin Fang?

Moreover, the one capable of shielding their connection to the Alms Bowl was certainly no ordinary person, yet at that moment, he was utterly clueless.

Pondering with no conclusion, Faming began to sit cross-legged in the Black Tiger Stockade, chanting sutras. His body shone with Buddha’s Light, and the chant resonated through the valley.

The thieves looked on in bewilderment, not understanding the purpose of the monk’s chanting here.

However, they soon felt a purification of body and soul, realizing that they had been wasting their lives. Their prime years should be devoted to serving the Buddha, rather than frittered away.

The once ferocious and murderous thieves now knelt devoutly on the ground, loudly chanting the name of the Buddha.

Faming glanced at the thieves and saw the fervor in their eyes, which made him a bit uncomfortable. This Dharma Technique was taught to him by his master for enlightening all living beings, but those who were enlightened became zealous Buddhists, which the young monk was not accustomed to, and he rarely used this technique.

Nevertheless, considering these thieves were sinners of the worst kind, Faming felt more at ease thinking that in this way, he was lessening their sins.

"Amitabha Buddha, lay down the butcher’s knife and become a Buddha on the spot," Faming brought his palms together in prayer.

"Namo Amitabha Buddha!" the crowd followed, bringing their hands together in reverence.

From then on, the notorious Black Tiger Stockade vanished from the world, and a new temple was erected in its place, known as the Tiger Subduing Temple. The former vicious thieves transformed into the temple’s devout monks, becoming a legendary tale of the land.

Unaware of Faming’s actions, Lin Fang would have certainly regarded the Buddhist Sect with newfound respect had he known—such methods were truly fearsome. If Buddhism so desired, it might instantly convert all the people under heaven into its followers.

At that moment, Lin Fang was earnestly observing the Purple Gold Alms Bowl, seeking to learn how Buddhism harnessed the Power of Faith.

This was indeed the most practical treasure. Currently, in the Three Realms, most Innate Treasures had owners, and the potential of Acquired Treasures often seemed limited by their material, unable to advance further. But the Power of Faith broke these limits, providing Magical Treasures with boundless possibilities. It’s no wonder Buddhism was so intent on spreading its teachings to the Eastern Land.

With a vast amount of the Power of Faith, Buddhism’s influence could dramatically change, potentially altering the current situation where the Heavenly Court suppresses Heaven and Earth.

Lin Fang looked up at the sky, his face revealing a cold smirk. While the gods of the Heavenly Court were busy with their power struggles, Buddhism had already begun laying out its grand plans. When that grand scheme came to fruition, Lin Fang believed a great event would surely unfold in the Three Realms.

It was as though he could see an invisible wind sweeping across all corners, and he wondered what role he would play in it.

Lin Fang didn’t know, as his path forward was still shrouded in confusion. However, for the time being, he focused on mastering the use of the Power of Faith, lest the night grow long and dreams wander—for nobody knew if Buddhism has further moves to make.

For three days straight, Lin Fang secluded himself in a cave near Boyue Cave, tirelessly studying the Alms Bowl. Finally, he exhaled deeply, content with his understanding after so many days, and decided not to delve any further. After all, the deeper he went, the more entangled he would become with Buddhist Law, and since he had no plans to become a monk, he wisely chose to end his study.

"Brother Lin Fang, have you finished your practice of cultivation?" asked Little Fox, who had been quietly by his side, with excitement.

"Mmm, I’ve gained some insights. As for the rest, it’s better not to learn it and get unwittingly converted," Lin Fang whispered.

"Has there been any movement recently?"

"Don’t worry, I’ve been keeping constant watch. Nothing has happened, just a few little demons passed by without noticing anything happening here," Little Fox proudly said, patting his chest.

"Not bad, well done."

The joy of a child is so simple. Hearing Lin Fang’s praise, Little Fox beamed brightly, feeling as if he had accomplished a very important task.

"So, will we return this Alms Bowl to that monk?" Little Fox asked.

Lin Fang thought for a moment but then shook his head, "That blockhead, he starts shouting about demons and killing on sight. If we go back, we might just end up being chased by him."

"Hmm, the material looks nice, how about we smash it!" Lin Fang suddenly suggested with a spark in his eye.

With these Purple Gold pieces and the Colored Glaze Fragments gifted to him by Monk Sha, he had enough material to craft a Magical Treasure.

Afterward, Lin Fang asked Little Fox to hide far away. The Alms Bowl clearly had other uses, possibly even involving some of Buddhism’s machinations. Destroying it would likely alert that monk, and with Little Fox in tow, he wouldn’t be able to escape quickly.

Little Fox was exceptionally obedient at that moment. He left the cave as instructed and began to sprint towards the West, bearing in mind Lin Fang’s admonition: the farther, the better.
