This Journey to the West is so terrifying
Chapter 37 - 25 Encounter_2
Lin Fang fixed his gaze on the Alms Bowl in his hands, estimating that after Little Fox had made a good distance, he began his suicidal journey; the Jade Pendant in his hand flickered and transformed into a huge hammer.
Without any courtesy, Lin Fang lifted the hammer and smashed down with all his might; unexpectedly, the Alms Bowl emitted a Buddha’s Light that brightened the entire Cave Mansion.
Amidst the Buddha’s Light, it seemed that an Arhat opened his eyes, and a mysterious force suddenly blessed the Alms Bowl, trying to block the hammer in Lin Fang’s hand.
But the hammer, transformed from the Willow leaves of Guanyin Bottle, was no ordinary object. It pierced through the Buddha’s Light and struck squarely on the Alms Bowl; with a deafening explosion that resounded through the heavens, the Purple Gold Alms Bowl emitting Buddha’s Light shattered into pieces in an instant, and the brilliant Buddha’s Light was extinguished.
Lin Fang did not delay a moment, gathering the fragments and using the Art of Flying Escape, he vanished from the Cave Mansion in an instant.
At the same time, an angry roar echoed in the sky, Faming sensed the destruction of the Alms Bowl; at that moment, he was ablaze with rage. It was a Buddhist Treasure, the barrier he had used while preaching in Baoxiang Kingdom, and was to be used as a Magic Artifact to suppress the temple in the future. Now, it was damaged by a Mysterious Person: how could he explain this to his master?
His figure shot out like a meteor from the Black Tiger Stockade, and in no time, he arrived above Lin Fang’s previous hideout in the Cave Mansion, where a surge of Demon Qi faced him. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Fuming with rage, Faming bellowed, "Monster, how dare you!"
The voice carried the unique Buddhist Lion’s Roar that reverberated through the mountains, causing countless birds to fall from the sky, stunned into unconsciousness upon hitting the ground.
The previous explosive noise had already disturbed the Yellow-robed Monster resting in Boyue Cave, which got this once Star Lord incredibly irate. He was about to go find the source to teach them a lesson when he heard Faming’s roar.
Draped in his armor, he flew out of the Cave Mansion and saw the furiously angry Faming, his face showing impatience as he said, "What monk dares to run wild in my Boyue Cave? Could it be you’ve grown tired of living?"
When Faming saw the Yellow-robed Monster, his eyes instantly turned a deep red, mistaking him for the one who damaged the Buddhist Treasure; without another word, he attacked.
His palm enlarged in mid-air, carrying formidable power as it struck towards the Yellow-robed Monster.
"How audacious of a monk; today, I, the great king, will capture you to pair with my drink," boasted the Yellow-robed Monster, a Star Lord recognized in the Heavenly Court. He wasn’t going to be afraid of a monk.
His Treasure Blade struck fiercely, shattering the Buddha’s Palm. His figure was as fast as lightning, about to charge at Faming. But Faming was unruffled, his Kasaya flying as if to stir up a sudden tempest, sweeping across all directions.
The fierce wind raised sand and stones, uprooting trees, but when it struck the Yellow-robed Monster, it did not move him at all.
"Little monk, if that’s all you’ve got, then today, you’re rightly my food," the Yellow-robed Monster said with a grim smile.
With one slash, Faming raised his Zen Staff to block the Yellow-robed Monster’s attack. He felt a massive force washing over him, causing his body, which he took pride in, to tremble slightly. He was astonished – where did this Demon come from, to possess such strength?
A smile crossed the face of the Yellow-robed Monster; Faming was sent flying backward, crashing into a mountain and creating a large pit, kicking up a cloud of dust that obscured vision.
"Prajna-paramita, all Buddhas, prajna-paramita-empty!" The voice came from within the dust; a Buddha’s Seal flew out, striking directly at the Yellow-robed Monster.
A grave expression appeared on the Yellow-robed Monster’s face, inwardly remarking that this little monk was somewhat capable.
Confronting the surging golden Buddha’s Seal and sensing the power it contained, the Yellow-robed Monster dared not be careless. His body emitted a robust aura, with his powerful demonic power spreading around, forming dark clouds that obscured the sky.
His figure seemed to grow immensely, baring sharp fangs and looking malevolently fierce as he yelled, "Take my blade!"
The rumbling sound echoed around Boyue Cave, the generated gales wreaking havoc. Lin Fang, watching from afar, couldn’t help but exclaim in amazement, "Goodness, they are both tough characters; this monk is quite formidable."
He had originally thought the monk would be severely punished by the Yellow-robed Monster but never expected him to cause such an uproar.
"I can’t afford to provoke them, I can’t afford to provoke them, I must make a quick getaway." As they spoke, they quickened their escape, not daring to linger for a moment longer, for who knows if those two fellows would take notice of oneself.
Meanwhile, the battle between Faming and the Yellow-robed Monster entered a fever pitch, as they clashed continuously, with their momentum growing larger and more intense.
But who was the Yellow-robed Monster? A Star Lord of the Heavenly Court, long known and a veteran of many battles, soon his true skill began to show. His treasure blade seemed to turn into a flood dragon, constantly tearing at Faming.
At this moment, Faming appeared rather disheveled; his kasaya had already been pierced by the Yellow-robed Monster, leaving him with several scars oozing blood. Yet, there wasn’t the slightest hint of fear or discouragement in his eyes.
With a loud boom, Faming’s body fell from the sky, crashing to the ground and creating a human-shaped crater. Even though he still was willing to fight, his body could no longer support him to continue.
In contrast, the Yellow-robed Monster, despite being somewhat out of breath, remained uninjured. He raised his treasure blade, ready to end Faming’s life.
A tiger’s roar resounded, suddenly stirring up a gust of wind that blocked the Yellow-robed Monster’s attack.
"Amitabha Buddha, Great King, please spare the life of this unworthy disciple of mine!" A commanding voice rose, causing the Yellow-robed Monster to feel a strange sense of familiarity.
He turned his head and saw a monk riding a ferocious tiger, slowly emerging from the woods.
"Tiger Tamer, Arhat!" The Yellow-robed Monster was taken aback, for it was the Buddhist Arhat himself who had come.
The called out Tiger Tamer, Arhat, was similarly startled to find that the Demon King recognized him, surely someone who had been following his movements.
"I implore the Demon King to show mercy and spare my incompetent disciple."
The Yellow-robed Monster let out a cold laugh. He had no affection for the Buddhist Sect; to put it accurately, many in the Heavenly Court held no goodwill towards Buddhism, stemming from the strife between the Buddhist and Daoist Sects, and of course, the power struggle between the Eastern Heaven and Western Heaven.
You see, the Heavenly Court had long established itself, claiming to be the master of Heaven and Earth. Yet surprisingly, Buddhism started to gain momentum, forming Mount Ling right under the nose of the Heavenly Court, causing the West to fall outside the Heavenly Court’s jurisdiction. If it weren’t for the fact that the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas were the top powers in the Three Realms, the Jade Emperor would have long waged war against them and would not have begrudgingly recognized the legitimacy of Western Heaven.
"Who would tolerate others snoring under one’s own couch?" As an emperor of the Three Realms, how could one willingly share supreme authority with others?
Thus, the East and West were united in appearance but divided in spirit. Aside from a very few who had broad friendships, most were merely superficially harmonious but inwardly dissonant.
"What if I refuse?"
"Then this humble monk must seek guidance from the Demon King."
And so a great battle began, a terrifying atmosphere enveloping Heaven and Earth, with Buddha’s Light and Demon Qi seemingly dividing the world. The clash of their auras was already sparking fiercely.
The Tiger Tamer, Arhat, enumerated among the very top of the Western Heaven, displayed his prowess in battle against the Yellow-robed Monster, causing the latter to be internally shocked. Silently, without making a noise, the Buddist Sect had numerous masters. Initially, he thought he would not expend much effort against the Tiger Tamer, Arhat. Now it seemed he had underestimated his opponent.
The battle continued into the night, from the heavens to the ground, with no victor emerging. However, by this point, neither side really had the will to fight any longer. After all, a fight where neither could best the other if it continued would become meaningless.
The Yellow-robed Monster was inclined to use his full strength but feared revealing his movements to the Jade Emperor, who would then capture him and bring him to the heavens. After much consideration, he let off the Tiger Tamer, Arhat, allowing him to leave Boyue Cave with Faming.
The Tiger Tamer, Arhat, gave a deep look to the Yellow-robed Monster and then placed Faming on the tiger’s back, taking him straight to the West.
When Faming awoke, he was already in Mount Ling, facing the somber Tiger Tamer, Arhat, his master. He quickly got up and knelt, saying, "Disciple is ashamed, having let down the trust of my master!"
