This Journey to the West is so terrifying
Chapter 48 - 33 Shangtan Village
However, Lin Fang, looking at the paper figures of today, always felt that this, too, was a possible occurrence.
"Forget it, it’s all up to your own fate now," Lin Fang said softly. He no longer paid attention to the still-pretentious paper figures and went directly to the second floor of the Glazed Glass Tower.
The layout of the second floor was similar to the first, only the altar on this floor was empty.
Lin Fang thought for a moment and placed the relic he had obtained this time on it.
The relic shone brightly, seemingly lighting up the Glazed Glass Tower, and in the depths of the light, a special aura seemed to wrap around the tower. Lin Fang understood that this was the relic’s ability to shield causality taking effect.
"With this relic, it won’t be easy for the Buddhist Sect to track me down now," Lin Fang said with a slight smile.
He finally felt relieved, as his whereabouts had mysteriously leaked before, which had caused him great concern—the methods of the Buddhist Sect were indeed indefensible.
Just as he placed the relic, inside Mount Meru in the Western Heaven, a Buddha opened his eyes in astonishment and murmured to himself, "Strange, the causal connection has been severed. Could it be that this monster has been killed by Gālan?"
His confusion caught the attention of the practitioner beside him, who couldn’t help but ask, "Buddha Ancestor Wu Yu, has the monster been subjugated?"
Buddha Wu Yu shook his head slightly and said, "Only the causal connection has severed. It might be that he’s been killed or he might have found a way to shield himself from the causal connection. It seems this little monster is not simple. No wonder he can make Faming spin in circles. Subduing Tiger, it seems we have underestimated him."
Tiger Tamer, Arhat chanted softly, "Amitabha Buddha, I don’t know what sorcery this monster possesses to have such skills."
"The Three Realms are vast; it isn’t possible for us to comprehend everything. That there are powerful beings hiding outside the law is no secret," Buddha Wu Yu said softly with a sigh.
"Indeed, it’s our duty to promote the Buddhist Law and save all living beings from suffering," another voice agreed.
"Amitabha Buddha!"
Below the two, countless monks and monsters that had taken refuge chanted the Buddhist invocation together, each one’s expression fanatical, filled with zeal to devote themselves to the Buddhist Sect.
Shangtan Village is a small village in the Wuji Kingdom, located on the shore of Qing Lake. As the saying goes, "Rely on the mountains for mountains, on the water for water." Shangtan Village, lying against Qing Lake, naturally thrived on fishing.
The quality of Qing Lake’s water was excellent, and the fish and shrimp from the lake were delicious and highly regarded, favored by the nobility and officials in the city. Thus, Shangtan Village enjoyed a prosperous life.
However, in the past two years, disaster struck. Whether they had offended a divine spirit, anyone who ventured out on a boat was met with huge waves that ultimately led to shipwrecks and loss of life. Survivors even claimed that a monster was causing the huge waves and destroying their boats.
Without their livelihood, the villagers’ lives became difficult. Having no other choice, they sought skilled individuals to exorcise the monster.
However, genuine cultivators were secluded in the mountains, and only charlatans roamed the secular world. Over two years, people spent a lot of money, but to no avail; instead, many so-called experts perished at the hands of the monster. This caused these supposed masters to avoid Shangtan Village at all costs, regardless of the offered reward.
Today, all of Shangtan Village stood at the village entrance, anxiously looking into the distance, as they had finally managed to invite a revered Taoist priest with hope to exorcise the demon for them.
However, they waited and waited, but no one appeared.
"Village chief, could it be that this Taoist priest dares not come?" an old man asked the old village chief with a worried look.
"This shouldn’t be happening, this Taoist priest is a famous demon-exorcising master in our Wuji Kingdom with immense divine skills. I’ve heard that many high officials in the city have been seeking him, he wouldn’t have agreed to come if we hadn’t offered a hefty price."
Although the village head said this, there was no confidence in his words, and all he could do was stretch his neck and add, "Don’t overthink, let’s just wait and see."
What they didn’t know was that in Wuji Kingdom, a young man from Shangtan Village was anxiously waiting at a Taoist temple, occasionally sticking his head into the temple to look around, unfortunately, his view was blocked by the densely packed attic.
"Brother Da Zhuang, why hasn’t the priest come out yet? Didn’t he say he was just going to the toilet?"
"Don’t worry, don’t worry, just wait a bit longer," Da Zhuang carefully consoled him.
Just then, an anxious voice came from afar: "Brother Da Zhuang, it’s bad, the priest has run away!"
A skinny man came running back from another direction of the temple, panting as he spoke.
"What, that son of a bitch, he deceived the village of its wealth and still dared to run away, chase him, beat this son of a bitch to death," Da Zhuang fumed upon hearing this, leading a group of young men to chase after the priest.
Turning the corner, they saw a Taoist priest riding a large horse, frantically running out, cursing along the way, "Damn scoundrel, to think they dared to trip me up, inciting those folks to hire me for demon exorcism. They have no idea how many people have died in Shangtan Village, I definitely don’t want to be monster fodder."
In his heart, he did feel some regret as he had finally made a name for himself in Wuji Kingdom. Many high officials regarded him as a distinguished guest and he had been making a fortune.
Only, recently, another had come to town and started competing for his business, tripping him up everywhere, even persuading those high officials to have him go to Shangtan Village for a demon exorcism to prove his powers.
He had agreed on the surface but secretly packed up his belongings, planning to slip away and start over somewhere else.
Now, hearing the shouts of the villagers from Shangtan Village behind him, he dared not delay and ran with all his might towards the city outskirts. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
In Shangtan Village, as all the villagers were feeling dejected and hopeless, suddenly someone pointed to the distance and shouted, "The priest is coming!"
The crowd quickly looked up, indeed seeing a young Taoist priest slowly approaching the village, and couldn’t help but start cheering.
"How can this priest look so young?"
"What do you know? I’ve heard that those highly cultivated priests are immortals, this priest might be older than your grandfather."
The crowd began to discuss animatedly, and the scene suddenly became somewhat noisy.
"Cough!" The old village head coughed loudly as he said, "All of you be quiet. Since he has agreed to come, it means our luck is good. Do not disrespect him because he looks young."
"Village head, don’t worry, we wouldn’t dare to offend the priest, we are all counting on him to save our lives," they said.
Lin Fang was walking along the road, muttering, "A bunch of lazy people, complaining so much after such a short distance. It wasn’t like this before."
It turned out that because they had been traveling day and night, the three little demons following him were constantly complaining, ultimately unanimous in their request to return to the Glazed Glass Tower to rest. Before entering, they had even prepared a substantial amount of food, seemingly planning to comfortably stay inside for a while.
