Chapter 103: Physician Li Xin
Li Xin continued walking along the village’s dirt road. He turned left at the first intersection, and his eyes soon spotted a two-story house located within a residential compound.
The place was not large. It was rather small, with only three buildings inside the compound. The villagers said that the village chief’s family lived there.
Li Xin raised his hand and pulled the handle before knocking on the door. He did it twice until a woman arrived, a servant woman to be exact.
She opened the door, poked her head out, and looked at Li Xin. "Do you need something?"
Li Xin cupped his hands politely in greeting. "I am Li Xin. I recently arrived in the village and plan to buy a house and start a business."
"I came to the village chief’s residence to ask for permission."
"A business... what kind?" the woman asked.
"A medicine shop."
The woman fell silent for a moment and did not immediately respond to Li Xin’s words. Instead, she hurried toward the main house to inform the village chief about Li Xin’s arrival.
The moment the village chief heard that Li Xin was a physician, he immediately ordered the servant woman to run back to the front entrance. The woman nodded and rushed back in panic.
Li Xin waited outside while observing the walls surrounding the village chief’s residence.
Compared to the Gu Clan, this house was probably equal to a livestock shed.
Not long after, the gate opened and the servant woman returned. She explained the message the village chief had given her.
"The village chief is currently ill. If you can cure him, he will reward you," the woman said.
Li Xin acted quickly, cupping his hands and bowing his head. "Please allow me to treat him."
The servant woman opened the gate wide and invited Li Xin inside. She explained that the village chief was being treated in his room, while all village administration had temporarily been handed over to his wife.
When Li Xin arrived at the main building, a middle-aged woman turned toward him. She stood elegantly with a smile on her face, pleased to see Li Xin coming to help her husband.
"You must be Physician Li."
"Come with me," the woman said.
Li Xin followed her into the bedroom area. Before they opened the door, Li Xin faintly heard coughing coming from inside.
The door opened, revealing the room clearly. A middle-aged man was lying helplessly on the bed.
Half of his body was covered by a blanket, and beside the bed was a small bucket filled with vomit mixed with blood.
"You... are the new physician in my village?"
"My name is Li Xin," Li Xin answered.
"Come here... cure me. I’ll give you anything you want."
Li Xin cleared his throat in acknowledgment. He walked toward the bed, sat on a wooden chair, and grabbed the village chief’s hand. The man continued coughing nonstop, blood staining his hand repeatedly.
Li Xin’s fingers touched the pulse and veins on the man’s wrist. He secretly sent a trace of qi through his body, undetectable to them, in order to examine the man’s condition thoroughly.
There was no aura of death, a simple sign that his condition was not caused by impending death.
Li Xin closed his eyes, focusing on the man’s chest and internal organs. Since he was suffering from nausea and coughing blood, Li Xin needed to examine his lungs and stomach.
He quickly noticed abnormalities in both the lungs and stomach. There was fungus growing in the lungs and poison lingering within the stomach.
Li Xin opened his eyes, released the man’s wrist, then turned to grab a notebook.
He wrote down two different prescriptions to treat the man. The ingredients were simple and easy to obtain, either from the forest or from medicine shops outside the village.
"How is my husband’s condition?" the woman asked anxiously.
"I will give him two medicinal prescriptions. His lungs are too damp, making it easy for fungus to grow. His stomach contains too many toxins and requires detoxification."
Li Xin handed the two papers to the middle-aged woman. She noticed how neat and easy to read Li Xin’s handwriting was.
"I will come here every day to check on his condition," Li Xin said as he stood up.
"Wait. Don’t you have a place to stay?" the woman asked.
Li Xin turned toward her and shook his head. "I’m new to this village. I haven’t had time to buy a house or rent an inn yet."
"In that case, stay temporarily within our residence compound. We have several empty rooms."
"It will also make it easier for you to examine my husband later," the woman said.
The man smiled, nodded, and cupped his hands politely while lowering his head. "Thank you for your generosity, Madam."
She introduced herself as Si Zue, while her husband’s name was Tong Hong. The two of them had maintained their marriage for twenty-three years and were blessed with two daughters, both of whom cultivated at the Baisheng Sect.
The servant woman guided Li Xin toward a small house within the residence compound. The place was still unoccupied and had originally been intended for male servants.
The room appeared clean and fairly spacious. The furniture inside was simple and not luxurious.
According to Li Xin, the place was already more than enough for him to stay in. After all, he would not remain there forever.
Once Tong Hong fully recovered, he planned to leave the residence compound, buy a house in the village, and open his medicine shop.
Si Zue used the time she had to order the servants to prepare the medicinal ingredients according to the prescriptions given by Li Xin. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
In her opinion, if they could not obtain the medicinal herbs in Miwei Village, then they would have to search elsewhere, such as Jimo Village or Moxia Village.
Li Xin sat at the edge of the bed while staring straight ahead. He raised his hand as his cultivation eyes observed the qi aura flowing faintly between his fingers.
Although it was not as dominant or powerful as the qi of most cultivators, it was still enough to use as he had earlier when examining Tong Hong’s condition.
I should rest. This will be my first real sleep after becoming a mortal.
