Seeing Li Xin’s kindness made Liu Xie even more interested in the man’s life.

Judging from his face, Liu Xie guessed Li Xin was only one or two years older than her.

"May I help you? I’m fairly familiar with herbal ingredients. With my cultivation eyes, I can judge the quality of every herb," Liu Xie offered.

Li Xin turned toward her and nodded with a smile.

"Of course. That would help me a lot."

Hearing Li Xin allow her to help made Liu Xie happy.

The two of them walked together until they arrived at the shop, where a young woman was managing her family’s store.

"Welcome. Are you looking for plants?"

"Yes, Miss. I’m searching for three-colored lilies, young acacia grass, and cold lotus petals," Li Xin explained.

"Oh, are you a physician?" the woman, Han Zie, asked.

"That’s right."

Han Zie walked toward the other side of the wall shelves, carefully examining the plants stored there.

Liu Xie also helped, observing the quality of the herbs closely with her cultivation vision.

The quality was not bad, but it was not particularly good either. Among all those plants, none were considered high quality.

She leaned closer and whispered to Li Xin.

"There aren’t any high-quality herbs here. Should we search outside the village?"

Li Xin shook his head as he crouched down to inspect the three herbs that had just been picked directly from the plants.

For Li Xin, ordinary quality was already sufficient.

He was trying to treat a mortal, not a cultivator.

"There’s no need. These herbs are already enough. They can effectively treat that old man."

"A-Alright."

"The total comes to sixty taels."

Li Xin reached into his pocket and pulled out sixty taels from a black pouch.

Liu Xie briefly glanced at the money inside Li Xin’s pouch. The amount was small and clearly not enough for long-term survival.

"Let me pay for it instead, Li Xin," Liu Xie offered.

"It’s alright. I still have enough money for later, Miss Liu."

The man paid for the herbs and accepted the three boxes containing the ingredients.

Once they finished shopping, Li Xin and Liu Xie bid farewell and left the Han family shop.

They continued walking back toward the lake. Liu Xie still felt puzzled.

She genuinely wanted to help, but Li Xin kept politely refusing her assistance.

She no longer knew how to respond, but she truly wanted to leave a good impression on Li Xin.

"May I help you prepare the medicine later, Li Xin?"

"Of course. That would help me greatly."

Eventually, they arrived back at the lakeside house and saw the old man still sitting on the chair, silently staring at the lake.

The moment Li Xin arrived, the old man’s attention immediately shifted toward him.

"You’re back, little Li."

"I already bought the herbs. If you want to recover, you need to drink the medicine regularly," Li Xin answered.

"Oh, now you’re acting like my grandson."

Li Xin stepped into the yard and sat down at the stone table. From his bag, he took out a stone mortar.

Not only that, but he also entered the house and brought out a small wooden plate.

"Could you boil some water for me, Miss Liu?" Li Xin asked.

"Of course."

Liu Xie entered the house and took out a black pot, poured water into it, and began lighting the stove beneath it.

Meanwhile, Li Xin took out the three herbs and placed them into the stone mortar.

His hand gripped the grinding stone as he began crushing the herbs into fine powder.

The old man watched what Li Xin was doing, his curiosity growing as he wanted to know how medicine was actually prepared.

Liu Xie returned carrying a kettle filled with warm water.

Li Xin accepted it and poured the water onto the wooden plate where the medicinal powder rested.

Instantly, the water turned brownish, becoming ready to drink.

Li Xin held the wooden plate toward the old man and asked him to drink everything.

"I never thought... I’d be drinking medicine again like a child."

"Just drink it," Li Xin said.

The old man drank it all. It felt warm and bitter. He placed the wooden plate back on the stone table.

"I’ll give you medicine for three days. You need to continue lying down and resting," Li Xin explained.

"My name... is Pu Yi," the old man said.

"Alright. I’ll call you Grandpa Yi."

Pu Yi smiled faintly before standing up and walking back inside the house to lie down and rest.

Now it was Liu Xie’s turn to sit on the wooden chair beside the stone table while watching Li Xin organize his belongings.

"Did you do the same thing for my father?" Liu Xie asked.

"Yes. I told him to sunbathe every morning so his condition would improve further," Li Xin answered.

"It seems your father will be completely healthy by tomorrow," Li Xin added as he picked up the mortar and stood up. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

He stepped into the house and noticed how messy and dirty it looked.

Li Xin let out a soft sigh and stopped walking, while Liu Xie stood beside him.

"Do you want my help again, Li Xin?" Liu Xie asked with a smile.

Li Xin turned and smiled back at her.

"I apologize for troubling you."

The next day.

The condition inside the house had become clean and organized, no longer filthy like before.

Throughout the previous day, Li Xin and Liu Xie worked together to clean the house.

Sweeping the floors, gathering trash, washing utensils, and cleaning dust from the windows.

Everything was done carefully so the dirty environment would not worsen Grandpa Yi’s condition.

That day, Li Xin went to the front yard and sat calmly beside the stone table.

His attention focused ahead, where a kettle filled with warm tea rested before him.

The enlightenment of the heavens is uncertain. I don’t know what kind of Dao concept I’ll eventually comprehend.

Regarding that matter, I cannot rush. I must continue living like a mortal in order to gain heavenly enlightenment through mortal life.

The door opened, and Grandpa Yi stepped outside with surprisingly quick steps. Li Xin turned toward him.

Grandpa Yi looked far healthier than yesterday, and the pale color on his face had significantly faded.

What surprised Li Xin even more was the painting Grandpa Yi carried in his hands.

It was not a simple painting, but rather a landscape depicting forests, lakes, and natural beauty.

"You’re going out?" Li Xin asked.

"My body already feels much healthier than yesterday. So I’m going back to the village to sell these paintings," Grandpa Yi answered.

"You could become sick again, Grandpa Yi," Li Xin complained.

"Your medicine made me healthy. Enough already. You don’t need to worry about me."

With his stubborn attitude, Grandpa Yi walked away from the lakeside house and headed toward the center of the village.

Li Xin sighed and shook his head before finishing the tea in his cup.

"Alright. Time to explore the forest and search for herbal ingredients."
