Chapter 26: The MC [2]

The aftermath of the clash lasted longer than expected.

Voices filled the hallway in uneven waves. People were excited, disbelieving – some were even struck by awe. But one thing that was consistent was the center of their attention.

Luca.

If there were doubts about him not belonging to the S class, let alone Luminara itself, they were quickly shut down.

And among the shocked students, Ronan couldn’t say he was any different. It was quite the spectacle.

Of course, he had read about the scene, but seeing it in person was way different. Luca had effortlessly dispatched the three S-class students without even moving from his original spot.

And the entire time, he had an effortless, bored look on his face. Like the task was beneath him.

But Ronan’s thoughts were interrupted as a noble voice came toward them.

"Strange," one of the class S nobles said. "I don’t recall this being a public viewing."

His tone was casual as he smiled at us, but his tone was anything but.

Elara shifted near him suddenly, and it was only then that Ronan remembered she had come with him.

Another noble spoke this time.

"Heh, and it looks like they’re some familiar faces. The Ashbourne family brat and Freya Lockhart’s sister is it?"

"Wow, is that a match made in heaven or what?"

Another student said, a commoner, but right now, this wasn’t a commoner vs noble thing; it was about their S-class pride.

"Say that again..."

Ronan wasn’t planning to say anything, but it seemed he didn’t need to as Elara’s voice rung out from beside him.

Luca’s attention turned towards them as well.

Good job, Elara, this is why I brought you.

The original S class student who spoke didn’t even bother hiding his disdain. Perhaps due to his lower noble standing, perhaps something else.

"You heard me."

The surrounding space widened instantly, giving space to the two students.

Well, three. Ronan didn’t move.

He stood by Elara confidently, his expression unchanging.

Elara took a step forward, the irritation clear on her face. "I said, say that again."

The noble sneered at her, and a disgusting smile crept onto his face.

"What? Did I say something wrong?" The noble asked. His gaze flickered between the two of them, and his smile widened. "I was just pointing out how... fitting it is."

Laughter from the crowd.

"The failure of the Ashbourne family and a branch family stray. You really do find each other."

"What was that?!" Elara was yelling now, and her mana flared. It was an abnormal amount, which caused even Luca to widen his eyes.

The noble hesitated for a little, but then he felt how unstable it was. It was a lot, sure, but it was unrefined and crude.

"Watch that," he snickered. "You aren’t on that level yet. I will embarrass you."

"Try me," Elara snarled.

The noble smirked, and an icicle materialized in front of him. The icicle started spinning rapidly, and a whirring sound could be heard throughout the hallway.

At the same time, Elara gathered pure mana into her right hand. She didn’t look scared at all. Elara’s eyes sharpened as she surged forward at the laughing noble, who didn’t look worried at all, mana in hard, ready to strike.

The collision looked inevitable.

But right as Elara moved, the air went still.

It was as if everyone in the room was forced to stop what they were doing and acknowledge the presence of the enormous pressure pressing down on them.

Even Ronan found it a little hard to breathe at the pressure.

A hand appeared and grabbed the noble’s wrist. The spinning icicle shattered instantly, collapsing in on itself before dispersing into mana.

The noble’s expression froze as it shifted towards Luca, who was gripping his wrist. Luca didn’t have any change in expression, nor did he look tense at all.

"Let’s stop this here," he said. "I don’t know what the deal is between you two, but I believe there has been enough fighting going on here."

His tone was calm, but it left no room for argument.

"Wh– But!"

His words were interrupted by the unamused look on Luca’s face.

"Who do you think you are?!"

A sudden voice came from Ronan’s left.

Eleara looked furious.

"...What?" Luca tilted his head in confusion.

"I said, who do you think you are?! I was about to show this cocky fucker his place, and you think you can just swoop in like you’re some hero?!"

The noble’s expression turned ugly when she said that.

"What did you say, you little bitch?!"

"You heard me!"

The two of them glared at each other, the tension rising. Luca’s intervention had stopped the confrontation, but it had done little to stop the lingering animosity that Elara and the noble held.

Ronan, seeing all this unfolding, turned around and started walking away.

"H-huh? Ronan?"

There wasn’t much else to do. He had gotten the information he wanted to gather and he also got Luca’s attention thanks to Elara. There wasn’t anything else he needed to do there.

Elara looked back and forth between the noble who was being restrained by Luca and Ronan, who was walking away. After a few moments, she hesitantly followed and left with Ronan, most likely not wanting to be the only class B student amongst all the S class students.

"Why did you leave?!" She asked in a yelled whisper.

"I just wanted to see the fight, not get involved with your little play fight."

"Play fight– you little," Elara sneered. "And how did you know there was going to be a fight there anyway?! Huh? Can you hear me?!"

Ronan ignored her as he continued walking, but the reason for why he ignored her was beyond her expectation.
