The moment the sense of crisis arose, Lin Kuang instinctively slammed on the accelerator without a second thought. In an instant, the already speeding car surged forward, pushing its engine to the absolute limit.

Just as Lin Kuang floored the accelerator, a gunshot suddenly rang out. It was the distinct crack of a sniper rifle.

Fortunately, Lin Kuang had accelerated just in time. The bullet missed him, shattering the rear window instead. He breathed a quiet sigh of relief, his deep eyes growing even colder.

Huo Feifei, sitting in the passenger seat, had turned pale. She was non-combat personnel; how could she not be terrified in a situation like this?

"Feifei, sit tight and buckle up," Lin Kuang said urgently.

Hearing this, Huo Feifei nodded and instinctively fastened her seatbelt.

Seeing she was secure, Lin Kuang sent the car hurtling down the desolate highway. He kept increasing his speed, swerving erratically to make it impossible for the sniper to get a clean shot.

However, more vehicles were now appearing behind him. Worse, a dense blockade of cars completely sealed the highway ahead. At the same time, a dozen men armed with guns opened fire on them. Seeing this, Lin Kuang’s expression flickered. They laid an ambush, waiting to kill me in one fell swoop!

"Feifei, get down!" he yelled.

Huo Feifei instinctively ducked, hiding herself completely below the dashboard.

At that moment, Lin Kuang drew his Desert Eagles. He fired one bullet to shatter the front windshield, clearing his line of sight. Immediately after, he began firing both handguns. As Lin Kuang’s guns roared, his attackers began to drop one by one, yet he remained completely unscathed. He was somehow able to dodge the bullets the very instant they were fired.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

After a dozen shots, all of the gunmen were dead.

Just then, Lin Kuang’s head snapped down, and he ducked below the door’s frame. An instant later, the driver-side window exploded inwards as a bullet tore through the space where his head had just been. He had dodged just in time. If he hadn’t, that shot would have been debilitating, if not fatal.

Damn sniper! Lin Kuang cursed inwardly.

He was trapped. The vehicles ahead blocked his path completely, and the cars behind had sealed his escape route. He had to abandon the vehicle, or things would get extremely dangerous. Besides, Huo Feifei was still in the car. If he were alone, he might have stayed and fought. But with her here, he had to get them both out.

With that thought, Lin Kuang unbuckled Huo Feifei’s seatbelt and punched straight up. His fist slammed into the car’s roof, and his True Qi erupted outwards, blasting the metal panel clean off.

"Feifei, come with me," he said, pulling her close. They both stood up inside the now-open car. Lin Kuang then channeled strength into his legs and leaped five or six meters into the air, carrying her with him out of the vehicle.

BOOM!

The moment they leaped clear, their driverless car slammed violently into the blockade ahead.

Lin Kuang, still holding Huo Feifei, landed on the roof of one of the blockading cars. He wrenched the driver’s door open, placed her in the back seat, and slid behind the wheel, speeding away.

The pursuers watched his terrifying escape and cursed in frustration. They couldn’t help but admit that Lin Kuang’s skills and composure were on another level.

"Chase him! I refuse to believe we can’t kill him with so many men!" one of the attackers yelled into his comms.

"Yes, sir!" the others replied in unison.

Lin Kuang’s expression was grim as he drove. To be targeted by such an assassination attempt on his second day back in Yanjing was infuriating. We’ll see about this. This isn’t over! he roared inwardly. He wouldn’t rest until he eliminated every last one of these bastards.

With that vow, Lin Kuang accelerated again. The distant sniper continued to fire, but none of the shots connected. If only he had a chance—and a sniper rifle of his own—he would have already dealt with that pest.

Just then, the roar of engines grew louder from up ahead. Another wave of vehicles, their high beams blinding, raced towards him. Lin Kuang squinted against the glare.

Excellent. It seems they won’t stop until I’m dead, he thought, assessing the oncoming cars.

Instead of slowing down, Lin Kuang accelerated, yelling, "Feifei, hold on tight and close your eyes!"

As he spoke, the car’s speed climbed relentlessly. The engine’s roar became a pained scream, a clear sign the vehicle couldn’t handle the strain. But Lin Kuang didn’t let up; his foot stayed planted on the floor, pushing the accelerator all the way down.

In the next instant, he was on a collision course with the lead enemy car. At the last possible moment, Lin Kuang violently wrenched the steering wheel.

The two vehicles scraped against each other, shaking violently. Lin Kuang kept the accelerator floored, forcing his way past. As soon as he was clear, he twisted the wheel again, narrowly avoiding the next car in the line. Just like that, he had threaded the needle and broken through, rendering their blockade useless.

Seeing this, the men who wanted to kill him were left dumbstruck.

"Damn it! He broke through a blockade like that? Is he even human?"

Human or not, Lin Kuang had broken through. Perhaps he was finally out of range, as the sniper’s shots ceased. For the moment, he was safe.

Lin Kuang didn’t stop, continuing to race on until he was certain he’d lost his pursuers. Only then did he pull the car over to the side of the road.

"Feifei, get out. You drive back from here," Lin Kuang said after stopping the car.

Huo Feifei stared at him, stunned. Her face was still pale, and she was clearly shaken by the ordeal.

"Brother Kuang, you... you’re not coming back?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.

"No. I need to go deal with those people. Don’t worry about me. Just get yourself home safely," Lin Kuang said with a reassuring smile, and then got out of the car.
