Unrivaled Soldier in the City
Chapter 540 sheets Situation changes rapidly
Within minutes, Lin Kuang had taken down more than a dozen men.
In truth, those dozen or so men hadn’t fought with their full strength. They were holding back against Lin Kuang, which was why the fight ended so quickly.
Witnessing this, Xu Chengjun was fuming. His face alternated between red and pale, a comical sight, but no one dared to laugh.
"Good, very good! Lin Kuang, you’ve got some real guts, daring to be so arrogant in my Xu Family’s home! You’ve got guts!" Xu Chengjun was so furious he could barely speak coherently.
"Uncle Xu, your men attacked me first. I had no choice but to fight back. I couldn’t just stand here and let them beat me, could I?" Lin Kuang said with a helpless air.
"Fine! You think you can fight? Great, very great! I’ll let you fight until you’ve had your fill!"
As he spoke, Xu Chengjun prepared to deploy the Xu Family’s secret weapon. A clan as large as the Xu Family naturally had its own secretly trained forces, as did the other major families.
However, before Xu Chengjun could give the order, Xu Shanming walked out of a room.
"Chengjun, that’s enough!" Xu Shanming snorted coldly, stopping him. Some cards shouldn’t be revealed so soon, and such force was certainly not to be used against Lin Kuang.
Hearing his father’s words, Xu Chengjun’s anger instantly vanished. For one, he feared his father. For another, he was a dutiful son who almost always obeyed his father’s commands without question.
"Father," Xu Chengjun said respectfully.
Xu Shanming merely nodded, his gaze falling upon Lin Kuang.
"Grandfather!" At that moment, Xu Yingying ran over and grabbed Xu Shanming’s arm, her face a mask of grievance.
Seeing this, Xu Shanming couldn’t help but smile faintly, patting her head with his wrinkled hand.
"Alright, alright, Grandpa will handle it. You silly girl, the moment you get a man, you forget all about your old dad and grandpa," Xu Shanming said with a laugh.
Hearing this, Xu Yingying’s pretty face flushed red as she whined, "Grandpa..."
"That’s enough. Lin lad, Chengjun, both of you, come inside with me," Xu Shanming said.
"Yes, Grandfather Xu," Lin Kuang nodded respectfully and followed him into the room, with Xu Chengjun trailing behind.
Yao Wenwen watched on helplessly. Since she hadn’t been invited, she could only wait outside.
Inside the room, Xu Chengjun glared at Lin Kuang, still seething over what had just happened. Lin Kuang, however, stood respectfully before Xu Shanming, seemingly oblivious to Xu Chengjun’s hostile gaze, which only made the man fume.
Then, Xu Shanming looked at Lin Kuang with admiration. "Well done, young man. You’re a real man."
Lin Kuang was taken aback. Wasn’t the old man supposed to punish me? This doesn’t seem like it.
Xu Chengjun also stared blankly at his father. Why is he praising this kid? This isn’t right!
"Thank you for the compliment, Grandfather Xu," Lin Kuang said with a quick bow.
"Alright, don’t push your luck. I’m entrusting my granddaughter to you from now on. You’d better not mistreat her, or this old man won’t show you any mercy, no matter who you are!" Xu Shanming huffed.
"Uh," Lin Kuang was stunned again. What’s going on? Has Grandpa Xu actually agreed?
Though he couldn’t quite wrap his head around it, Grandfather Xu’s approval was undoubtedly good news.
"Yes, Grandpa Xu! I promise I will never bully Yingying," Lin Kuang declared with the utmost solemnity.
"Father, what... what are you doing?" Xu Chengjun asked, on the verge of tears. Is he setting me up? Am I the only bad guy in the Xu Family?
More importantly, his father’s words clearly indicated he intended to help the Lin Family, which left Xu Chengjun completely bewildered.
"You shut up! Have you lived all these years for nothing? But I suppose I can’t blame you. There are things you don’t understand yet, so just stay out of it. I approve of Yingying and Lin Kuang being together. Furthermore, our Xu Family will help the Lin Family!" Xu Shanming announced, making his decision final.
The good news was so sudden it left Lin Kuang reeling.
He had come prepared for the worst, ready to raise hell and take his woman back by force if necessary. Yet, not only did the Xu Family approve, but they were also willing to side with the Lin Family. The sheer joy was so overwhelming he felt he might faint. This was all too sudden!
"Father, y-you’re not joking, are you?" Xu Chengjun asked in disbelief, completely caught off guard by the abrupt decision.
"Joking? My ass! This was my plan all along. The only reason I put Yingying under house arrest was to see if this Lin Kuang kid was man enough. Not bad. His performance just now was quite satisfactory," Xu Shanming said with a grin, his eyes filled with satisfaction as he looked at Lin Kuang.
Hearing this, Xu Chengjun was dumbfounded. Great, so I just got played for the villain? The old man is ruthless!
Lin Kuang was also completely dazed by the immense joy, his earlier tension instantly washed away.
Xu Yingying remained in a state of shock, still trying to process the sudden turn of events. She had thought her grandfather’s arrival spelled trouble for Lin Kuang, but the situation had reversed so dramatically it felt unreal.
"Grand-grandfather, you aren’t joking, are you?" Xu Yingying asked blankly.
"Of course not. Or do you want me to be joking?" Xu Shanming replied with a smile.
"No, no, no! Of course not, I hope not!" Xu Yingying hastily waved her hands, her face beet red.
"Good, that’s more like it. The matter is settled. Alright, Chengjun, have someone prepare lunch. Lin Kuang will be eating with us."
Though utterly frustrated, Xu Chengjun could only nod. His father had spoken, so how could he possibly object? As he left, he shot one last disgruntled glare at Lin Kuang, prompting an apologetic smile from the young man. After all, this was his future father-in-law.
"Ahem. Grandpa Xu, why did you do all this?" Lin Kuang asked, his curiosity piqued.
The initial wave of joy had subsided, and now that he had his wits about him, he felt things had changed far too quickly. What’s the catch?
"Why? Must there be a reason for everything? If you really want to know, go home and ask your old man. That is, if he’s willing to tell you," Xu Shanming said with a smile.
