Chapter 1038: The Savior, The Usurper, and the Goddess of Death [V]
The Goddess of Life was not expecting her head to be separated from her body in a swift cut but she was not surprised either. She just stopped her head from moving away and like before, she telekinetically grabbed it again, only for Almira to start swinging again and cutting both arms to pieces.
"I see. So before we fought during the Great War, you just wanted to suppress and stop me from doing anything. But now, it seems you are eager to kill me instead. Are you that desperate for power, my dear sister?" the Goddess of Life smiled with a mocking grin plastered on her face.
"No. I don’t care at all if that power is gone for good or it is not mine anymore. But I am here to put a stop to your attempts to bring chaos to this world. Stopping and convincing you is no longer possible so instead of doing that, I will instead kill you."
"But Sister...have you forgotten? We, siblings, cannot kill each other for we both are gods by blood and flesh. Even if you have lost most of your powers and you are just as strong as a demigod right now, you still cannot slay me. So why bother with this effort?"
"Yes. I didn’t forget about that fact, Sister. And I hate how this rule is currently in effect even when I am at my weakest. But even if I cannot do it to you, I will ensure that you will not be able to fight back again."
Now I see. So this is the reason why the gods cannot kill each other. Even if they try to do so, the gods will just remain alive even if you decapitate, stab, or even separate their bodies from their body parts. They will remain alive as long as the one who did the deed is someone who has the blood and flesh of a god. Seeing it in action makes it weird for me.
But until Almira passes the baton to me and makes me fight her again, I will continue to support her. But first, I had to make sure that this god was not immortal. Now that parts of her body are cut to pieces but are still alive and can still be reattached again, I am going to test this out and see how this might work.
Stopping the skill, I grab an exploding potion in my inventory. It’s not that strong nor is it that powerful in terms of explosions but it is strong enough to destroy a boulder in the process. It is usually used by everyone to break parts on some enemies or just to blow something in a hurry. A handheld grenade in another world if I say so myself. And since throwing it will cause it to explode, I don’t need to use a fire to ignite and make it explode. It will explode upon contact with the ground or anything hard.
So while Almira and the Goddess of Life are engaged in a conversation, I immediately throw the exploding potion to her hands that fell to the floor and she has yet to reattach them back to her body. It was an arc throw that is not that obvious and no one will anticipate.
Before Almira and even the Goddess of Life could understand the situation, the potion that I threw into the air landed straight where both of the Goddess of Life’s hands were resting and in just a second, an explosion occurred. It was very sudden and this caused Almira and even the head of the Goddess of Life to be pushed away by the pressure of the explosion.
The explosion did not cause any devastating damage...but it destroyed two hands in the process. Both of her hands have been reduced to burnt flesh and are all broken to pieces.
"NOOOO!" Seeing both of her hands gone, the Goddess of Life stopped slowing down and just reattached her head back to the main body. I am glad that I decided to destroy her hands instead of her head. Attacking the head might do damage but that doesn’t mean the explosion is enough to destroy it completely. Only a bit of her head might be destroyed if I did it and that would only allow her to heal back again and not destroy it. As for her hands though...that’s a different story as she is now missing both hands and seeing her not regenerate it, means that she is not able to recover destroyed parts of her body.
"F*cking human...how dare you do this to my hands!"
She then started to blast multiple light lasers all over the field and I immediately grabbed Almira and changed my weapon to the Shield of Pride tanking every laser beam that was coming straight to me.
"DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE!" the Goddess of Life seemed to have gone mad as she started to attack me with different attacks, which all got caught by my shield, and adjusting it from time to time to ensure all attacks would only hit the shield.
"What are you doing, Manato?! You provoked her to be like this! I was hoping to use this chance to blind her a bit and make her focus remain on me while you do your job and deal with her in the process!"
"Don’t worry. I am here to end this battle. If both of you can’t kill each other, then I will take this matter into my hands. Seeing how even you can’t kill her, then I will ensure that this matter ends, right here and now. And my counterattack has just begun."
I looked into the gauge of the shield and realized that I had already retained the full gauge to full power. Then...something crossed my mind. If using the Excalibur and Rhongomyniad alone will be hard to quell and defeat the Goddess of Life, why not use every single deadly sin weapon adding the other weapons of the other class in the mix to weaken her? Perhaps I have been narrowminded and just wanted to finish this battle as soon as possible but perhaps going back to the usual style of dealing an enemy normally would be the best way to defeat her.
I stood up and slam down the shield to the ground, before running at full speed towards the Goddess of Life. As I got close, I saw the look on the Goddess of Life’s face of disbelief.
"Time for the counterattack, dear goddess. [VANAGLORIA!]"
Activating the skill, all of the stored attacks that the shield took were immediately fired straight at the body of the Goddess of Life, causing a major blast that broke apart her abdomen after receiving my counterattack due to the [Vanagloria]’s effect.
"H-how is this possible?!" she groaned as the pain on her side started to hurt her.
"Yo, goddess. I know you call yourself the savior. Since you are calling that yourself, then let me become the usurper. The one who will stop your ascension and the one who will block your way. Before you accomplish your very goal, I will become the villain that you are dreading."
Changing the form of the Devourer into a gauntlet, I went into a combat stance.
"Now, shall we begin?"
