Villain Extra: Rogue Reader
Chapter 33: Battles
With the firewall burning brightly, the perimeter was essentially secured.
The battle from ahead could also be heard at their scene, but Ray didn’t evacuate.
’These people still staying here when so many have already left shows that they couldn’t or were unwilling to.’ Had he ordered an evacuation, there would definitely be a scene erupting here.
Although he could use force to make them leave, that would only backfire in the long term.
Not to mention, he was certain that someone didn’t want them to remain in Moonrock Town.
’I don’t know what the secret is here, but I know damn well I won’t let you succeed.’ A part of his fabulous trait was to make sure others couldn’t get what they wanted, especially when they were making his life difficult.
BOOM!
Once again, another loud explosion resounded thunderously.
"Ah jeez, can’t they fight in a lower volume?" Ray picked his ears and complained.
’Are you being for real?’ Jake nearly had an outburst. It was a battle at a high level, so of course the volume would be intense.
"Ray, I know you like to throw your weight around, but Chloe isn’t someone you should joke around with." Jake’s expression was solemn.
As much as he was jealous of Chloe’s achievement, her merit and reputation as a whole in the Carrion Household should not be disregarded.
Ray paused for a moment.
"Even if that means offending me right now, where I could just send you to do the most tedious and lowly task?" He asked coldly.
"Yes," Jake clenched his fist and nodded.
His eyes were firm and crystal clear, which proved his resolution in voicing his opinion.
He anticipated offending Ray right now and being sent to do menial tasks, but to his surprise.
Ray actually clapped his hands and praised.
"That wasn’t so hard, was it?" He mused. "Born from the same father but different mothers doesn’t necessarily mean you are enemies. Harmony is key to success."
"..."
Jake remained silent. He refused to admit anything about caring for his siblings. He was the eldest and the destined heir for the Carrion Household.
’What a pain in the butt.’ With his experience as a reader for so long, Ray could tell that Jake cared for his siblings.
Unfortunately, the circumstances and environment he lived in made it impossible to coexist. It didn’t help either when Marquis Robert’s stubborn personality and mindset of being the best of the best caused all his children to end up competing with each other.
As long as Ray could subvert Jake’s fixated mindset and learn to coexist in harmony, he could avoid the bad end.
Fighting the protagonist was definitely a losing battle.
He knew exactly how perverse William’s ability was. The world practically treated him like a cherished baby.
Of course, while the world cherished him dearly, his companions weren’t so lucky.
Each one of them suffered tragedies, with the exception of the heroines, because fan service was a must.
But those fan services were traps!!!
A big trap to lure and deceive honest readers like him.
’Ugh, with the infamy I have... those heroines probably want to kill me at first sight.’ Ray never harbored thoughts of collecting them like a certain monster gathering animation.
He admired them, but that was only when he was a mere reader.
Now that he became the Villain Extra, he was destined to be parallel with them.
And he wouldn’t even try because the author clearly hated him.
[Wow, you have self-knowledge of yourself that you can never bag them! Impressive!! You get a like from me!]
"..."
Thankfully, Ray got used to the system’s antics and chose to selectively ignore their commentary.
Just like that saying. The system used him, and he would also use the system.
He forgot where that goat line came from, but he shall claim it for himself.
’Who’s going to charge me for copyright in this novel world?’ He shrugged and stretched his neck.
"Anyway, let me know when the battle is over. I’ll be resting over here." He found a somewhat decent spot to lie down on. Naturally, the mattress used came from the carriage.
The others could only smile awkwardly or bitterly at his action.
Who was going to tell him not to behave like that?
Just take a look at Jake, the eldest heir!
Even that foul-tempered Jake turned to a mute when dealing with Ray.
While Ray chose the relaxing lifestyle, elsewhere, an intense battle was underway.
"Commander Chloe, our left side is losing control." A soldier guarding the left side reported in an anxious tone.
Chloe furrowed her brows and frowned. She sliced off another monster’s head and made an 180-degree sweeping strike to deflect the approaching ones.
"Has the town been evacuated yet?" She called out to someone who was in charge of relaying messages.
However, when the soldier remained silent, Chloe’s expression darkened. Every second on the battlefield meant more people losing their lives.
To stall or to be incompetent in such a scenario was something she refused to accept. That was her personality as a commander in the battle.
"Speak up, or you can have a discussion with my blade." She hissed coldly.
The soldier quickly flinched and reported the situation.
Initially, Chloe’s eyes flared up and seemed ready to kill someone on the spot. But a while later, she suddenly calmed down.
"Tell Jeanette to expand the firewall closer here, so we don’t need to be too passive," Chloe instructed. With Jeanette’s firewall as the defense line, she didn’t need to be overly concerned about monsters passing through their barricade.
Instead, she could now wholeheartedly slay monsters in front of her.
’That Ray didn’t choose to evacuate to contain the perimeter. But there should be another goal in his mind.’ Chloe could deduce Ray didn’t want whoever was behind the monster tide to get an opportunity to target them during the retreat.
After all, when people evacuated, chaos was bound to occur. Amidst the chaos, some could easily take advantage of the chance to wreak even more havoc.
