Chapter 1006: Chapter 438: Siege of Montefel (Part 2)

But it doesn’t matter, on the smoke-filled ramparts, beneath the gray sky, the knights’ holy songs dispelled the power of the undead. They charged into the enemy lines and engaged in a bloodthirsty battle with the undead. The bright sunlight pierced through the sky shrouded by Kemler’s spells. The divine power of the Lake Fairy flowed in the hearts of the knights. They stood as the last line of defense between the commoners and evil.

"Kill! Kill! Charge forward!" The Undead Grand Mage Kemler raised his Noisy Skull Staff, and the terrifying Death Wind swept across the walls, turning hundreds of soldiers and knights into skeletons in the blink of an eye.

Below the wall, a giant siege hammer was pounding against the gates of Montfort. The massive gate emitted a frightening sound, and the defenders could only trust that the fortress doors were strong enough.

Fulcard and his knights initially gained the upper hand in the battle, with large groups of undead being knocked off the walls by the knights’ group charge. But the undead were endless, and the knights and their steeds grew weary from repeated charges. Worse still, whenever a noble mortal soldier fell, it meant Kemler’s Ancient Tomb Legion gained a new recruit.

The knights’ charge was gradually blocked by the mounds of undead, and once the knights lost their momentum and were forced to halt, they were immediately slaughtered. In seconds, an Undead Knight would revive from their bodies. Gradually, the number of undead outnumbered the mortals, and when Duke Fulcard, spurred by blood and flesh, came to his senses, he found that of the fifty-some knights who initially followed him, only over twenty remained.

"Duke! We can’t hold on! At this rate, the castle will fall!" Expedition Knight Kaled, wielding the Durandal sword, severed the head of a Desolate Tomb Guard from its neck, carving a path of bones through a throng of Skeleton Warriors and Desolate Tomb Guards.

"Duke of Montfort, Lord Fulcard, surrender to me, Heinrich Kemler, immediately! Otherwise, my legion and I will slaughter your castle and your people completely!" In apparent response to Kaled’s words, the Undead Grand Mage Heinrich Kemler shouted magically from below the castle. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

The atmosphere atop the castle suddenly froze. The Undead Army seemed to receive an order, halting the attack and opening a space between Duke Fulcard and Kemler. Duke Fulcard gritted his teeth, clenching the sharp sword in his hand. He took a step forward, about to tell the Undead Mage that this was a delusion.

"Nagash’s Gaze!" The Undead Grand Mage Kemler didn’t give the Duke a chance to reply. Instead, as the Duke revealed himself, Kemler urgently chanted a powerful spell. Two purplish-red beams of light converged in the eyes of the Undead Grand Mage, targeting the Duke personally, before the knights even had a chance to react.

Nobility is the epitaph of the noble, and treachery is the pass of the vile. Kemler displayed a hideous smile.

However, there was a fatal miscalculation in the Undead Grand Mage’s plan. His eagerness to use vile means to ambush Duke Fulcard exposed his position alongside forcing the Duke to reveal himself.

A bolt of lightning rolled through the sky.

A golden griffin spread its wings and soared across the sky. The knight riding the griffin raised a massive two-handed warhammer with one hand, with lightning flashing around it. Silver flames burned on the palm of his hand, and the griffin’s piercing shriek echoed across the battlefield. The griffin suddenly opened its mouth toward where Kemler stood, and blue lightning gradually coalesced into a crackling ball.

The Undead Grand Mage felt something was wrong upon seeing the lightning ball forming in the griffin’s mouth. Kemler scrambled to dodge.

The griffin spewed a bolt of lightning directly at Kemler, splitting the Guardian Spirit-Binding Knight on the spot.

He is here!
