Warhammer Divine Throne
Chapter 1007 - 439: Battle Shifts to Jisoleox
In the sky above, fifty Pegasus Knights from the Swift Celestial Spear Association are piercing through the clouds, descending rapidly.
Kemler is under attack, and in the chaos, he lost control of the Undead Legion. The entire legion instantly turned into a mindless rabble, fighting only on instinct.
The brief moment of lost control over the legion lasted only about thirty seconds. When Kemler regained control of the legion under the protection of the Spirit-Binding Knights, the Undead Grand Mage quickly realized that the tide of battle had shifted.
The Pegasus Knights of the Swift Celestial Spear Association dived like a whirlwind from high above, swiftly sweeping through the Undead Legion on the walls. The charge by the Pegasus Knights drove the uncontrolled Desolate Tomb Guards and Skeleton Warriors off the walls.
Laine, missing his first strike, immediately performed a sharp turn mid-air with his Griffin Empress. The golden wings of the griffin spread wide in the sky, drawing a loop, and then dived down. With a screech, it extended its claws, ripping the skull off one Tomb Evil Ghost, and with three rapid pecks, it tore the neck of another Tomb Evil Ghost, ripping away strips of decaying flesh.
Mjolnir hammered down, damaging the critical structures of the siege hammer attacking the gate.
The Pegasus Knights followed in Laine’s footsteps, raising their cavalry lances as they charged down the walls, breaking through the Desolate Tomb Guards responsible for guarding the ladder connections to the walls.
Duke Fulcard and Kaled reacted, loudly ordering the soldiers to counterattack. The Undead Army on the walls, amidst the chaos, was beaten back relentlessly, unable to hold their ground.
"The situation has changed!" When Kemler regained control over the Ancient Tomb Legion, the Undead Grand Mage noticed the battlefield’s situation had altered, with the human defenders regaining the advantage.
More importantly, Kemler himself was exposed, with his figure already visible within the ranks, which was too dangerous for him. Kemler himself wasn’t adept at close combat. If faced with an ordinary Legendary Knight like Duke Fulcard, he might barely manage a draw, but the Holy Grail Knight riding a griffin was clearly a Holy Sanctuary Grand Knight! 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
He couldn’t handle that.
Deploy Guer?
Kemler reached for the sword hanging at his waist.
This sword, known as the Chaos Tomb Digger Sword, was a gift from the Chaos Four Gods. Inscribed with the Chaos Octagonal Emblem, the souls of enemies slain by this sword would be eternally enslaved, never to reincarnate.
Summoning Guer could certainly continue the fight, but no one knew when Francois and his reinforcements would arrive. Pushing forward could not only result in a perilous situation, attacked from both front and back, but also prematurely reveal Guer as a hidden asset.
After a brief consideration, Kemler decided to give up. He shouted to Mathew Bade behind him, "Mathew Bade, prepare to retreat. You and your men will cover the rear for me. If the Knights here all come out to pursue, my Stone Tomb Binding Spirit Legion and Spirit-Binding Knights will assist you!"
"Mathew Bade?" Kemler didn’t receive the answer he expected. He turned around.
Mathew Bade and his army had completely disappeared!
Damn! That bastard runs faster than I do! Kemler’s face twisted, immediately realizing Mathew Bade’s plan.
He wanted to sell out Mathew Bade, yet that traitor had escaped first!
Retreat! Retreat! Kemler immediately ordered the army to withdraw. He mounted his Armored Nightmare Warhorse, leading his Ancient Tomb Legion to retreat northward.
The siege on Montefel Castle was finally lifted. The undead remnants, now devoid of Kemler’s command, turned into a rabble, easily crushed by the morale-boosted defenders. As Kemler distanced himself, the remaining undead army disintegrated into dust.
As Laine landed with the griffin on the high walls of Montefel Castle, Duke Fulcard eagerly rushed over, repeatedly questioning Laine with an anxious demeanor, "Why not pursue? Why not chase those undead? We barely held the castle, we should strike immediately and annihilate these undead!"
"If conditions allowed, I certainly wish to pursue the undead, Your Grace the Duke," Laine shook his head repeatedly. "Unfortunately, only I and the Swift Celestial Spear Association managed to come to support; the Knight Army needs at least a day and a half to arrive."
"You traveled day and night without rest?" Duke Fulcard paused, only then noticing that the reinforcements consisted solely of Laine and the fifty Pegasus Knights of the Swift Celestial Spear Association.
"Yes." Laine nodded calmly, shrugging. "Luckily, we weren’t too late."
"On behalf of the Montfort Duchy, I offer our eternal gratitude to you and Francois for your efforts!" Duke Fulcard sighed, hesitating for a moment before thanking Laine and the others in his ducal capacity: "Thank you for the arduous journey, you have saved eighty thousand people."
"We still have more people to save ahead!" Swift Celestial Spear Association leader "Ghoul Slayer" Fastrick leapt down from his Pegasus, expressing grave concern. Thanks to Laine accurately spotting Kemler and launching a surprise attack, none of the fifty Pegasus Knights were harmed. He said earnestly, "The assault by the Undead Legion is not over; we ultimately need to settle the score with them."
"Hmm," Duke Fulcard nodded heavily, filled with rage. "We will make the undead pay for this!"
