Chapter 669: Favoured by the Heavens

All of his big brother has their strength.

But they also have flaws

Big brother Chagan is a great commander. He could lead men and formulate strategies and could serve as a vanguard general.

But he is impulsive.

He is easily manipulated if there are ambitious people around him.

As for his other brother Chalik, he is sharp and cunning. But he has small heart, and keep grudges, making not many elders favoured him.

Those who keep too many grudges and could not let go could not be expected to have a vast vision. Strongly influenced by his likes and dislikes.

Charun is a good warrior, he could follow orders, and his fighting is top notch. With training he would become one the strongest warriors in the tribe. But he is not a good leader, unable to govern or discern people hearts. As for him, he could see people hearts, talented in many methods, but he knows his heart is too timid

Chabur did not know this but his analysis of his brother is the same analysis of how his father asses them all

Out of all of his sons, Chabur probably resembles Chadha the most.

Then what about his brother Chayun. Chayun could keep the tribe safe. He lacks certain flairs and he could be considered quite slow. But what is a flaw in others is a strength for his father.

Stable, and calm. He is rarely impulsive, he could forgive and forget, a good leader with great sense of responsibilities, and knows when to be ruthless.

He held none of the strength but balanced it all out. If his father wanted someone who could expand the tribe, his father would not have chosen Chayun. But his father wanted Chayun to make sure the tribe survives.

That is the only reason why

Chalik and Chabur then put away their thoughts and waited until the Khan finishes his speech.

The Khan then gives all the necessary respect and then bowing to the new chief, he jumps back into his horse and returns back to his tribe

That evening an envoy arrive from the Brolgadhr tribe that said, the battle will be fought three days from now.

So, everyone could grieve properly. The news makes even the tribesmen of the Chagai tribe feel quite weird.

Some warriors noted that this is the demeanour of the great ancient warrior of the past.

Heroes serves different masters, chief have different interest, but heroes are heroes and heroes respected other heroes.

To them, even though Aeryon attacked them, Aeryon did not violates the ancient codes of warriors.

One might say that certain practices of war is cruel, but Aeryon rarely use his heavy hands if he could help it.

Aeryon from the very beginning of his conquest is ruthless in action and execution, but he was always above-board in his action

And the death of Garron is just a few months ago. Everyone still remembers show Aeryon had raise his army to try to save Garron and failed at the last moment.

This is an act of heroism that would be praised no matter which tribe you are from.

The Chagai is shrouded by this weird atmosphere and the generals notices it and even the other sons of Chadha notice it.

But the chief...what is he thinking?

..

The west is being attacked, all the tribes and clans of the west is now in disarray.

In such chaos, some people choose to surrender, some choose to stand on the fence, some choose to observe, some chooses to wait to see the winner, some chooses to fight

Different people, different desire, and different objectives.

The West of the Southern Great Steppe....is not entirely united.

Why did Genghis Khan managed to unify the Steppe? It is because each tribe fought for their own chief and they fight for their own interest.

The danger of disintegration is always after they won a battle. Before fighting and during the battle, the people of the Steppe is the strongest

Those Yan people fear them and their fearsome reputations makes those people create walls and disparage them with all words imaginable.

These scholars and weak spine people only dare to use their mouths because they did not have bravery in their hearts.

Comfort breed complacency, and complacency breeds weakness

This is the maxim truth of the ages.

Before they fight and during the fight, the Steppe warrior’s determination breaks mountain passes and break walls and slaughter and plunder cities.

But the moment they won, that is when the Steppe soldier become vulnerable.

The reason is simply because even the most powerful coalition led by a charismatic leader could not constrain the greed in human hearts

Each time any chief went into a battle, they promised the warriors the bounty of war. After all, no one would risk their life to get nothing

Loyalty is one thing and benefit is another.

You could not command thousands of men relying on loyalty alone. After all, how could you know the human hearts?

So, each time when a great expedition is launched, the most vulnerable thing is when it is time for giving the spoil of war.

There were even times when the enemy would wait for the Steppe warriors to fall into conflict in front of the riches before counterattacking.

Genghis Khan managed to unify the Steppe simply because he streamlined the process of this bounty giving and because he was fair in his distribution and he dares gives

The reason of this disunity in front of the spoil of war is simply because the other chief just like warriors in an expedition, all have different hearts and different desire.

They did not know how to unify thoughts and actions and Genghis Khan took them one by one.

Do they not unite?

They do. But different hearts, different thoughts, different desires and different objective has doomed such union

Aeryon bet on it.

Aeryon is a chief of the Southern Great Steppe. He is not invader from the outside. And he did not attack the western border tribes.

The Chagai, the Nergui and Ultar tribe might be in the region of the western region of the Southern Great Steppe.

But they are not really considered one of the western border tribes.

These western border tribes are recorded and their region has always been on the border. They share borders with the western neighbours.

They recorded their names on the tablets all over the Standing Stones that could be seen all over the side of the Empatarah river near the western borders.

When Aeryon attacked the west, even though Chadha managed to unite many of the desires of the small clans and tribe to resist Aeryon forces, different clans and different tribes also have their own thoughts.

There is no common identity with the big clans . And the small clans and small tribes have less ease on dealing with large army and tribes like the Brolgadhr.

And now with Chadha dead...the architect of the Cha Ner Ul Alliance, the glue that holds the alliance together....a new phase of the war had begun

And in the east, someone frowned after reading the battle report. The battle reports took two weeks to arrive.

By now, it has been one week after the death of Chadha. The one looking at the report is Katuran Sagutenak. Also known among the people of the Southern Great Steppe as Katakura

The news had reached Esbizuk

Katakura could not help but frowned when he digested the news.

"This is unexpected. Chadha....if only he could live a little bit longer....just a little bit longer...."

"Haish!"

Katakura could not help but sighed.

He had planned and schemes and made countermeasures for Aeryon advance toward the west.

He was confident that as long as Chadha is till there, the alliance, the Cha Ner Ul alliance would stand.

And as long as Chadha is there, Aeryon would have his toughest fight yet

But now Chadha is dead

It is almost like the Heavens favoured that young chief. Garron is dead, and Aeryon could now legitimately take Utgard tribes and legacy considering he is married to Ayera.

Utgard is an ancient tribe , and an old tribe.

It has legacies of its own and they would not surrender even if they ae small.

But if Aeryon attacked it, and won, the Utgard would follow and would surrender without guilt.

Why?

Because if one day Ayera bore a son for Aeryon, that son would not only have Brolgadhr blood, he would also have Utgard blood.

The legacy of the Utgard would live on.

And they would unite the people of Utgard an Brolgadhr.

Utgard is an illustrious tribe in the Central great Steppe.

And Brolgadhr even though in the past few hundred years was a small tribe, in the ancient past, during the time of the ancient empire of the Steppe, they are an illustrious tribe that settle in the Southern Great Steppe

The legacy of these two tribes would be inherited by the children of Aeryon and Ayera.

If Garron is alive, it would not be so easy for Aeryon to swallow this legacy. But fate intervenes.
