Chapter 167: Advanced training

Ray had only 20 days of peace before they invaded the mansion.

As he started crafting, his mind worked on all of his problems at the same time.

First was his fighting style; what Ray excelled at lay in fights that lasted long enough until he outmatched his enemy in one way or another, but if he started any fight, he had around two minutes until King of Silence found him.

Being an assassin in higher levels had many difficulties; with strong healing magics, killing someone in one shot was impossible, and if even one succeeded, their trick couldn’t work next time around.

"If I destroy the brain first, the rest will be dead along with it, but it should have a super tight defense around it." What thing was certain? If he didn’t kill the rest of them, he couldn’t do anything to the king of silence.

Reaching 50 experience, he expected the first mission to pop up, but nothing happened. The system just let him absorb more blood crystals.

"Weird..." Ray ignored it and continued his task.

His two strongest attacks both had big drawbacks, but he had a way to enhance the devil claw. While making crystals, he let the devil magic roam free in his system.

Usually Ray didn’t want it to affect him that much, but he needed his mind and body to be one with the devil magic.

Ten clones of him around him inspected the wall of fire that Cindi had made; mastering such a technique was necessary, yet unlike Cindi, he wanted to use it for attacking.

"Defense is pointless as long as I can’t kill them. Turning into a killing machine is the only solution."

Despite the situation, Ray continued his work with a calm manner. After the festival, he felt like he had seen Satan himself; no human could scratch the surface of the power of that man, and if Ray climbed the ladder, he had to face him in the end.

His intention more than letting his body not fire back against the devil’s claw was his pure magic. He constantly worked with his pure magic inside of his body to mimic the devil magic. If it worked, he could use two devil claws one after another without any backlash.

After ten days, he reached 250 experiences. Doing all the tasks at the same time slowed him down, but some small advancement could be seen. His clones could mimic the triple spin in one magic, yet unlike the fireball, anything they created could last for seconds.

His pure magic and devil magic worked even better than he had expected. Devil magic was different on its own, but Ray didn’t know how.

"Maybe because Fear and Hunger is a firstborn and pure magic is ancient, they are so good with one another." Ray thought about the possibilities; turning the pure magic into devil magic was way simpler than what he had expected.

He let the devil magic continue ruining his physical body as he pleased; it ate his flesh like the owner of it. Numb to the pain, Ray tried testing the spin to the magic himself.

"To fire bullets, they would add a spin to it, but I never saw such a thing with someone using their projectiles. It simply costs too much in thoughts and magic, but what if I can code my needles to do this on their own?

Ray had a strategy for the moment: use all of his attacks at the same time, Star Crimson, two devil claws, and thousands of blood needles and get out. "At least for the first person it should work!"

General Hank was his first target in mind; his base magic was Storm; it didn’t have to do anything with Ray’s magic. General Memendez was more difficult with soul magic.

Speaking of magic, Ray had a strong guess as to what the fifth magic was. "He’s magic. We’re identical to Scarlet’s with gravity magic. Even two people with the same magic will get different routes in it; that only means that he’s copying others."

With more and more thought, Ray was sure of it, but Scarlet was an immortal; copying her magic shouldn’t have been as possible unless, at a time, she was weak enough to be copied.

"During the festival another person with a powerful magic was present..." The thought was terrifying at first, but the more Ray thought about it, the more he reached the conclusion that it was an advantage on its own.

Nova magic being stronger meant it couldn’t work with the other four magics. Planning to counter him was too soon, as Ray let it remain for later.

Only 1 experience was left for Ray to see the wall; before that, he got to work to max out his abilities. Each cost 20000 blood crystals; after a few days of working on them too, Ray was one step away from hitting the wall.

A massage from Cindi told him that the mansion could hold on only for a day, Marian and Alexandria were getting better, and at last a few of her people were protecting Jade.

Feeling sadness about how things had gone with Jade, Ray buried the feeling inside his heart. "That’s what life is. In my life, I’m the main character, and others are side characters. In others’ lives, I’m the side character!" Ray wished her happiness as he absorbed the last badge of blood crystals.

If the wall was an easy mission, then it meant he could face them on an even ground. He would destroy them all if they were not immortals; among level 9s, no one on earth could get close to him.

Being an immortal was his long-lost desire for a long time, a huge step toward Mars, but now his goal resides not in Mars but rather in a vast universe that awaits to be explored by him.

For advancement you must complete the mission first.

Kill the man with the title king of silence.

A smirk spread on his face. "So killing him in my current level is possible!"
