Chapter 108: Ch-: Lightning Valley (2)
Then Victor looked at the wolves, which had stopped chasing the man and were now staring at Victor with furious eyes, as if they want to tear up apart into pieces.
"Client, I think you should return the stone. If you do that, there is a chance to escape without fighting," Eleanor said while looking nervously at the wolves who were radiating killing intent.
"Why the hell are you so nervous? Aren’t you supposed to be our bodyguard?" Amber said with a raised eyebrow as she looked at Eleanor as if she were a fraud.
"I am not nervous, I just don’t want to fight them and want to preserve my mana for dangerous beasts," Eleanor said with a twitch of her eyebrows.
"I am not returning it, and relax, they will not do anything," Victor said calmly.
The wolves turned toward Victor. They didn’t care about the man anymore since they had a new target who had stolen the treasure they had been using to grow stronger for years.
The leader of the wolves leaped at Victor with its claws crackling with lightning. The wind whistled, and the air was pierced by the sharp gleam of its claws heading straight towards Victor’s skull.
Victor was not doing anything and just sat there calmly, waiting for the attack to arrive, which caused the man hiding nearby and Eleanor to be shocked.
"Damn, if he dies, won’t I be next? I won’t have time to escape," the man said through gritted teeth and looked at Victor angrily for not being better bait.
"I should intervene," Eleanor said with a frown and disappointment, while also having a headache as she thought he was like those green nobles who had yet to see blood and were frozen in fear.
Just as she was about to charge forward, a hand stopped her.
"Why are you holding me back?" Eleanor asked in anxious voice.
"Just watch, he is not in danger," Amber said calmly, and Eleanor stopped at her confidence but still watched Victor nervously.
"Who am I to stop you if you wish to throw away your life?" Victor asked as he raised his right hand.
Streams of black lightning began concentrating around his hand as he raised it.
The wolf felt a deep sense of crisis but was in no condition to dodge after coming so close. Before its claw could strike the opponent, the wolf sensed intense danger as a black lightning claw smacked it across the face.
CRACK
The destructive lightning rampaged throughout its body, shattering all its organs and smashing its steel-like backbone in an instant.
PUFF
The wolf leader was sent flying backward while releasing an arc of blood from its mouth. It crashed heavily into a giant boulder.
BOOM
The boulder instantly exploded into tiny pieces while the wolf yelped pitifully for a moment before its life faded. Dark blood from the corpse mixed with the stream, staining it red.
The remaining wolves didn’t dare move nor make any sound. They were scared witless by the brief display of power.
"How is this possible?" The injured man was completely dumbfounded. He expected Victor to be strong enough to hold his own for some time, but never to this extent, and now he was getting nervous and looked at Victor with fear in his eyes.
The wolves, on the other hand, lowered their heads as if apologizing for the conduct of their deceased leader. In the jungle, respect was always shown toward the powerful.
"Well," Victor glanced at them, "why are you still here?"
The wolves could understand his language as if it had also been spoken directly into their minds. They lowered their heads again to thank him before turning around.
The injured man relaxed, and his heart surged with delight. He now looked at Victor with deep gratitude in his eyes.
"Hey," Victor called out to the wolves, "aren’t you guys forgetting something?"
"W-what?!"
The four wolves turned around and looked at Victor in confusion. The injured man, on the other hand, felt his muscles tighten with fear.
"W-what do you mean?!" The injured man tried to calm himself, but no matter how hard he tried, his body only tensed further. His hands and feet turned cold, and he knew this was not due to the stream water.
"I’m sure you know what I mean." Victor jumped down from the boulder before turning toward the wolves. "You shouldn’t forget your meal."
The fierce eyes of the wolves brightened as they realized the meaning behind Victor’s words. Not only had he spared their lives, but now he was also permitting them to complete their original mission.
They were excited and once again expressed their gratitude to Victor.
Hiss
"Damn, so vicious." Eleanor sucked in a cold breath and felt a drop of sweat trickle down her forehead as she remembered she had scammed them and wondered what he would do if he realized it.
"N-no!" The injured man shouted.
He knew the wolves hated him, and that hatred had crossed all limits after he orchestrated the death of their leader. It was just that they didn’t dare show it due to the threat posed by Victor, but now there was no one to stop them.
The wolves growled and slowly walked toward their prey.
"Please stop them! I have tons of gold and money!" the man begged. He was in no condition to even stand, much less flee.
The injured man didn’t even get a chance to say another word as the four wolves pounced on him. They opened their mouths and released rancid breaths.
The silent stream was filled with blood-curdling screams as the wolves clamped down on their meal...
"Good, now the trash is taken care of. We can resume our journey," Victor said indifferently as he looked at Eleanor.
Gulp
Eleanor swallowed a mouthful of saliva, but she regained her confidence when she remembered she was stronger than him, though that belief would also be shattered in the coming minutes.
