Infinite Evolution: Dominating The Apocalypse With My God Tier Items - Chapter 29: Brutal Reality
The moment humans see someone close to them accomplish a task effortlessly, no matter how difficult they know it will be...
When attempting the same task, they instinctively underestimate the difficulty, no matter how aware they are.
It was the same for Elaine and the others.
After all, if Seth could kill a Defiled in three exchanges, they themselves shouldn’t fare worse.
Even if Seth was strong, the gap couldn’t be that high, right?
But they were wrong... very, very wrong!
Elaine coughed up a mouthful of blood, her slender arms on the floor propping up her weight lest she fell unconscious.
Her vision was blurry red, dripping blood from her head affecting it, along with a pulsing headache and foggy consciousness.
She let out short breaths of air, wheezing from the lack of oxygen in her lungs.
Her head recoiled back as the Defiled pulled on her winter-blue hair, stained with streaks of blood.
Its nostrils flared, drool pooled in its maws, and its teeth glinted as they parted, ready to take a bite...
Bang!
Its jaw suddenly rattled, its head swaying to the side as a punch fluctuating with smoky black aura landed on its cheek.
Jack came in, saving Elaine from the fate of being eaten alive.
Unfortunately, his punch hardly caused any damage. It barely even sent the monster reeling.
Elaine’s hair still tight in its grasp, its abyssal gaze turned furiously toward Jack. Its leg moved at the speed of lightning.
Shadow-like energy billowed from Jack, wrapping around him like a cloak as his frame grew subtly taller and more robust.
Obsidian glyphs flickered faintly across his skin, his sclera turned pure black, and his pupils glowed bright golden.
Though the whipping kick hit, the crunching and splattering effect the Defiled expected never played out.
Jack merely staggered a few feet backward, his shadowy aura rippling with more intensity.
Jack’s gene skill Titan’s Shadow — though he never announced it — was actually a Royal grade skill.
One had to know: according to skill classification, mini bosses had Leader grade skills, main bosses had Noble grade skills, unique boss creatures had Royal grade skills, and Defiled had Monarch grade skills.
So even though he wasn’t quite on par with a Defiled, he was the closest a being could get.
Actually, if he could enhance his physique, he believed he could take on this abomination alone.
[Gene Skill: Titan’s Shadow]
[Description: Humanity once birthed titan-class life forms in an age past. You carry a trace of their lineage!]
[Effects: Allows user to equip the shadow of a titan-class human, boosting stats! The more robust the body, the more power displayed. (Effects based on current physique!)]
+300 strength
+250 defense
+80 speed
+500 essence
+50 intelligence
This was just a trickle of what he could truly accomplish. He knew it — he could feel it!
But sadly, he had already maxed out his stat points, and it was clear this was the best his human body could amount to.
The Defiled seemed to realize the shift in strength. It flung Elaine aside, turning its full attention to Jack.
Just when both parties concluded this would be a one-on-one battle, another unaccounted pressure seeped into the atmosphere.
The temperature in the air rose, the wind distorted, and the ceiling of the building began to smoke.
The Defiled and Jack whipped their heads toward the direction of this palpable presence.
And it was a heap of debris Brandon had been buried in...
"Hahahaha! Finally, I’ve figured it out!" An uproarious laughter boomed as the debris turned red molten, melting away to reveal Brandon’s naked figure wearing an unrestrained grin.
Brandon had faced a cap in his abilities, probably because of his skill’s grade. His flames were capped at a certain temperature, no matter how much he compressed or poured them out — they never changed.
This limiting effect hindered his ability to deal damage to figures with powerful base defense like the Defiled. Even against mini bosses, he had to put in much effort to cause damage.
He had been at his wits’ end on how to increase them since the battle started. He had tried everything, but it was all to no avail.
Which was understandable. After all, he was practically trying to evolve a gene skill he had hardly mastered and gained in less than 24 hours.
But one couldn’t measure him with a normal sense!
A prompt flickered brilliantly in his vision:
[You have defined Hell! You have seen its embers!]
[You have comprehended the true essence of Hell Flames!]
[Congratulations! Your Leader grade gene skill "Sapphire Ember Touch" has evolved to Royal grade "Sinner’s Touch!"]
[Congratulations! Your skill has evolved by two grades. Your essence pool doubles!]
Brandon’s smile stretched wider as he stared at his palms.
He could feel the chill of his essence bolstering, the massive shift in power. Not in a physical concept, but in an amorphous way.
He could feel the lick of heat against his skin, the call of the flames brimming from his palms.
He raised his head, meeting the Defiled’s gaze.
"Tsk tsk tsk! Not so cocky anymore, are we?" He laughed as his figure blitzed forward.
Naturally, since his flames had undergone a massive shift in quality and quantity, their propelling power increased by vast margins.
Crystalline blue embers trailed in the air as Brandon appeared before the monster in a blink, mid-air.
A jet of flames sparked from his elbows, propelling a punch that carried blistering heat.
The punch trailed through the air, and due to the heat, wind resistance was far less, further increasing the force. Fur across the Defiled’s face curled and charred from the hit, then...
Boom!
A catastrophic explosion tore through the wind on impact. Even Jack had to retreat, his gaze flashing with cautious light.
The wind whipped as compressed gales ripped through the space...
A figure flew out uncontrollably from the midst of the explosion — the Defiled.
Even it couldn’t shrug off such an attack with ease. But that didn’t mean it was injured.
The Defiled quickly collected itself, landing on the ground on all fours, claws digging into the marbled ground as it screeched backward, fighting inertia.
But before it could come to a complete halt, a figure basked in deep shades was already above it.
Golden pupils surrounded by a pool of black flashed as a punch bore down.
The Defiled’s head whipped upward, only to meet Jack’s cold, deep gaze — and a punch rapidly enlarging in its vision.
It hit again. This time, with no balance on the ground to redirect or repel some of the force, a dangerous level of strength seeped into its marrow, sending faint cracks splintering through its bones.
Its head recoiled into the ground, breaking into the marbled surface, its body coming to an abrupt stop.
Jack didn’t waste such a precious opportunity, raining down a fury of punches with frenzied abandon.
Bombarded repeatedly in the head, the monster growled furiously as it slowly recovered from the concussion induced by the first attack.
Its claws moved, catching Jack’s shadow-cloaked fists, halting the raining attacks.
Its teeth bared, its hand moving to fling Jack out of sight, buying precious time to get on its feet.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t a fair one-on-one. A foot suddenly covered its vision. Brandon, smiling sinisterly, pummeled from the sky, delivering a skull-crushing stomp.
The Defiled’s head snapped back into the crater, digging even deeper...
Brandon licked his lips, ready to stomp away at the monster continuously. But suddenly, he found himself flying.
Roarrrrrrrr!
A raging torrent of essence burst from the crater, obliterating the flaming ceiling of the building and snuffing out all flames in the atmosphere.
A chill infiltrated the air — something beyond the heat emitted by Brandon, something that sent a chill down his fiery spine.
Goosebumps rose in waves as both Brandon and Jack fe
lt their hearts sink.
The Defiled had unleashed its skill in a furious rebuttal.
All momentum they had built up was snuffed out just like that.
