Master Of None
Chapter 2880. Alchemy Forms
While Walker and Midnight took the better part of the day to handle the ferrets and push some natural mana in to the ground, they had brought up some interesting questions and answers.
There was the fact that monsters like this might need to be relocated more often as the world grew. Especially as there might be cases of monsters migrating between the elemental planes and the world. That was not something that would be new. It was just something that hadn’t been able to occur for generations.
The species of monsters that used to migrate through the bridges and to the world had stopped when there was a break down of the bridges. So many of them may not exist any longer or have evolved to survive just within the elemental planes of the world.
Whatever the case, it didn’t mean that they would not exist as a whole.
There was also the fact that there would need to be a group that handled relocating monsters. Odds were that the tamer’s guild would have to take this on in an official capacity since they already handled smaller situations.
From what Walker had heard, there were already a few groups of destructive monsters that had been handled by them. A few groups of horned rabbits trying to invade farms during their breeding season being one particular group that Walker was thankful for.
He and the party had helped the adventurer’s guild handle these monsters before. Especially one particularly larger group that the vice guild master himself had helped with.
That aside, it also brought out the consideration that there would be more monsters appearing with dual affinities or the potential to make affinities dormant.
The ferrets here were not the greatest threat. They had certain circumstances that caused them to wake up or put to sleep either their earth or wind affinities. Because of this, it was simple to predict how they would react.
What would happen if the monster was not as peaceful?
What if the change was more dramatic?
What if the dormant affinities were multiple?
There were enough what if questions that Walker could list and consider it with Midnight for days if they really wished to. But they were not here to theorize things. They had helped solve a problem and gained some valuable information.
The idea of dormant monsters and beings was not new. Dormant affinities? That was new to Walker meaning that it might be new to the majority of people. Only a few of the caretakers within the libraries and archives might have information on monsters like the ferrets that Midnight and Walker had seen.
There was also the question of whether monsters with ancient bloodlines had more quirky traits like making some of their affinities dormant.
If so, then there could be a whole nest of potential craziness when it comes to dormant traits and bloodlines for both monsters and the races of the world. Let alone the elemental planes.
With a long sigh, Walker and Midnight took to the air, Midnight was glad that Walker was using the wind mana to buff them and enhance their flight. She didn’t want to be teleported a bunch of times again. Yet, she quickly noticed that Walker was moving ahead of her. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
He was testing her new flying speed!
"What is that sound?" The annoyed tone was all the more evident as Remey sealed a bottle of potion and passed it out to a worker who needed it. Unlike other options she had been working in the academy and helped devise a potion used for construction of all things.
While Remey had a focus on medicine, healing, and affinity potions, she had been very interested in the usage of potions for crafting. It was something she could learn more about and was able to see in action here within the building areas of the academy grounds.
She had caught sight of an alchemist working with a dwarven craftsman to use a potion with condensed earth mana and materials that assisted in strengthening reinforced stone mixtures. The potion would act as a catalyst to harden the material as it dried. This also allowed for it to last longer with less repairs needed over time.
When she realized that she didn’t fully understand how the potion worked with the mixtures that the craftsmen used, she felt that she was missing an important aspect of alchemy as a whole. One that could better the building of everything within Genesis and not just the people.
Other alchemists were exceeding in this niche of alchemy, she just hadn’t been able to diversify enough because of her hyper focus on what she had been learning and pursuing for her whole entire life.
but the sound of something splitting through the wind causes her to become distracted and halt her train of thought and ideas about how to enhance such potions.
When she realized it was Midnight landing with Walker nearby causing a bear windstorm, she grumbled even more. Mostly because she saw that the craftsmen working on a foundation for a storage shed had to block the wind from blowing around dust on their materials. The dust could ruin the delicate balance within their freshly made mixtures. If that were the case, she would force Midnight and Walker to redo this entire project themselves by hand.
"You two had better be careful. I just made a whole new earth hardening potion to help their foundation. If it doesn’t work then I will personally tear you to pieces!" a larger breath to keep calm later, Remey glanced at Midnight. "I like your wings now, they look like they cut through the air more easily. Get some practice in and train with Ventus. She should have pointers for you on how to adapt."
To Remey’s trained eyes, she could see the wobble and struggle in Midnight’s flight. The slight shits that came with her not knowing how her body had changed. The tweaks in her muscles that needed to be made since Midnight was over adjusting to the changes in wind currents. She even saw that Midnight was moving faster than intended because she expected more resistance from the wind itself while moving through it despite Walker’s buffs.
"Sorry if we caused a commotion. I wanted to test Midnight’s speed a little. She has gotten a lot faster but you are right, she needs to train the basics again so she can move efficiently and with comfort." While Walker was the one that spoke Midnight gave Remey a smile and nod accepting the proposal since she believed the very same thing.
"So what’s this about new potions?"
"I am working with craftsmen to make some potions. I recently figured out that they could be better refined. There’s also a metal folding potion that helps the folded metals in a blacksmithing process. More layers, longer lifespan, and easier shaping. All together better qualities. But alchemists forget to focus on these things because they aren’t showy. I didn’t focus on them and the alchemists working here made sure to explain how important putting more time and energy in to them are."
A small team of crafters and alchemists behind Remey seemed to be listening in and had smiles on their faces. Getting Remey’s attention for their niche set of skills meant that they would see advancements. It was a for sure improvement compared to having to carve out new improvements with even tougher work and lengths of time.
"That’s actually brilliant. If you do that we can help build everything better and faster. I would bet that Gil might try and get you to help him too, since he and the elves have some growing to do for their high elf bloodlines." He knew that the elves who worked in crafting and alchemy might be breaking out of their shells with the new discoveries about the high elf bloodline. So adding this to the mix could spur some grand changes.
"He can worry about his own work. I want to get Su a better shield. Apparently while training some guards she broke seven pairs of twin shields." Now this was gossip unlike any other. Su breaking shields was not as common as it might sound.
"Midnight and myself can check on her then. She doesn’t usually train that hard with trainees around." This was what Remey was getting at while not saying it. She was busy so having Walker and Midnight go check on her was the better option. Plus, she knew that Midnight had grown so Su might be pushing herself for that reason.
Su was a draconic guardian for Midnight. They were connected through a unique bond. The role of protector for Midnight was partly traditional but also necessary for the future of Midnight as a dragon within the dragon race.
