Chapter 2899: 2899. Everyone’s Thinking

"It feels like every day is just becoming more and more the same lately." Gil sighed, not because he was truly bored, but because he realized two more weeks had passed him by. It had only felt like a couple of days at the most.

"This is just how it will feel. Some people lose a lot of their perception of time. Look at the elder dragons when they sleep to better understand the manas within their bodies. For them it feels like they spend a short while but it can actually end up being years and years."

This was just something that Gil was finding harder and harder to handle when it came to being a high elf and also generally stronger. The idea that he would live for what would be thousands of years and maybe more just had a hard time settling into his mind. Especially since he was able to see the growth of entire farm fields without feeling like nothing much changed.

When he was younger, he remembered waiting and waiting for his mother’s strawberry bushes to grow so he could eat one. But now, it felt like he would see them bloom and fruit over five times in just a handful of breaths.

The perception of time was a hard thing to grasp, especially since he also understood that there were people who could legitimately manipulate time mana as a whole. Walker being the one he knew.

Then again, it was impossible to properly speed up time or slow it down, it was more understanding time mana and being able to slow the perception or speed the perception, both having their own effects on the body as well. This complicated train of thought made Gil shake himself from it.

"I know, but the more I train and the more I help others train, the more I realize that I am doing more and passing more and more time by. I don’t feel like I am making a bigger difference right now." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

From the way that Alma looked at Gil, she knew what he was feeling and also understood the thoughts. "I think you are just letting yourself get too far ahead. You are more advanced in many ways than the normal people. So am I. We both need to slow down and watch as everyone else grows."

Alma had thought of similar things like this. Especially since she knew all too well that changing people was not something that happened overnight. She still had to deal with the older elves that had every intention of halting important movements toward unity. They were stubborn and still felt that they should isolate and divide for the strength of singular elemental affinities. To make sure that their people were safe from the outside influences of others.

This being the case, she made it all too clear that it would not be accepted. But since it was not against laws, she did not punish them in the ways that most would be punished for breaking laws. Instead, she just used her influence to place them in positions where they would need to learn to accept the changes.

Positions where more of the elves working with other races would be. Or where there were elves who accepted the past and returned to awakening the high elf bloodline. The very idea that there were elves who disregarded proof like that was just evidence that there were those who would always reject facts.

"I know what you are saying, but I need to make more of a difference and I need to make sure that there is more for the future. I think the best way to do that is to push a little more." Now Alma got worried. Her face morphed into an expression of fear since she knew exactly what kinds of chaos Gil could cause when he went out to push and poke at this and that.

As he left ignoring her shouts, she looked toward her desk and the new paperwork she needed to do. As much as she wanted to send a few guards to yell at Gil, he had done a lot of work. The paperwork he had managed to burn through was three times what was left. She had no idea how he managed that, but the work was done and she just had to accept that Gil might be a better leader than he would ever admit.

At least when it came to figuring out paperwork.

Stepping foot into Genesis and leaving where the elves worked, Gil found himself wondering a little more about the potential of different races as they intermingled.

So many people came together here and there would always be obvious breaks in what could be possible and what could not be possible. Especially in size. There were dragons who could not yet take another form and could not travel within Genesis. All the same, there were some smaller races that could not climb up to areas where the flying races lived.

He wanted to fix these things but it was entirely impossible. He couldn’t make all of Genesis accessible for every race. He also knew that any magic or created items that could do such a thing were impossible to make.

But he could solve some smaller problems maybe?

His mind buzzed with what he could not do for people. What he could not achieve.

The time he had was already slipping away faster and faster. Now he was only seeing issues he could not solve yet.

What was this? Why was he thinking this way?

"I know that look." The gruff voice wasn’t really familiar, but it did seem like it knew. "I had the same look when I had to watch Su start to run off with friends and I had to go to work. She would easily grow an entire foot taller every single time I came home from working." Seeing Su’s father buying some fruits which he was sure to bring back to the mansion to share with everyone was a surprise.

It was a welcome surprise though. "We all told you if you had any worries about your future with Alma and growing a family that you could talk to us, but you seem like you are already going through it without even asking us for our thoughts." While Gil wasn’t about to say anything regarding how right Su’s father was, he was more surprised he ran into him.

"You need to stop worrying about how fast it will pass you by. Eventually, you will look at your own family one day and realize they look entirely different than the day you met them. You will realize you are different too. Just take a chance to breathe deeper and relax a little. The more you get caught up in your thoughts the worse it gets."

"One day you will have the chance to say, I can fix that if I have more time. I can do more with them if I had more time. That more time is now. You can’t make it all last and you can’t do it all. But you can be there regardless. So just be around. Slow it down and tackle things together with them. That’s how Su helped her mother and myself. She stuck with us and I was able to stay with them."

He had seen Gil out and about and just launched in to fatherly advice he wished to share with someone he deemed fully as part of the family now. But even more, he didn’t even get some of the issues Gil was trying to interpret correctly, but the advice could still apply.

Whether it was truly the advice or just someone who had accepted the word as it was and moved along with it speaking, Gil didn’t know. The calm confidence though, that tone and intention really gave Gil a lot more to consider.

Was he even looking at the world properly right now?

"I think I need to try and take a different look at things. Maybe my role isn’t just doing training and paperwork as I thought. Maybe I need to handle some other projects just like Walker is doing." He also thought about Su and how she was taking a look at herself.

He knew he was going to spend time with Alma and build their family too. But he didn’t know how it would look for him to be there in that role and other roles. He had been training others. I have been teaching. But was that what everyone needed him to be?

"Good. Look at yourself and the world and make a choice. You have the time to do that. Right now though, take this sour plum, they are extra ripe." The laughter of the two as they made faces after trying the fruit and how the others would do the same drifted through the streets mixing with the conversations of others.
