Chapter 74: On the Way

While driving along the dirt road, the Silver Vanguard noticed how fast and smooth the ride was compared to anything they had experienced before.

The vehicle didn’t shake like a carriage.

It didn’t creak, it just moved steadily.

Selene looked out the window, watching the landscape pass by in a blur.

"...We’re covering distance way too quickly," she said.

Liora nodded, holding onto the handle beside her.

"...And it doesn’t feel unstable."

Seraphine remained calm, though her eyes occasionally shifted toward the front, observing how Marcus handled the vehicle.

"So wonderful," she muttered.

Marcus smirked faintly.

"Told you."

However, from the back. One is not having a great experience.

"...Ugh."

Kael leaned forward slightly, one hand pressing against his forehead.

"...What now?" Selene asked, glancing at him.

Kael didn’t answer immediately.

"...Something’s off," he muttered.

Liora blinked.

"...What do you mean?"

Kael took a slow breath.

"...My head... feels weird."

Marcus glanced at the rearview mirror.

"...You serious?"

Kael frowned deeper.

"...Everything’s moving too fast," he said. "And it’s too smooth." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Selene stared at him.

"...That doesn’t make sense."

Kael shut his eyes for a second.

"...I don’t like this."

Liora leaned closer to him.

"...Are you... sick?"

Kael didn’t respond momentarily, but seconds later.

"Stop the vehicle."

Marcus raised an eyebrow.

"You’re kidding."

"I’m not," Kael said, his voice tightening. "Stop."

Marcus sighed.

"Alright, alright."

He slowed the vehicle down and pulled it to the side of the road.

The moment it stopped, Kael pushed the door open and stepped out quickly.

"I knew it," Selene muttered as she followed with her eyes.

Outside, Kael bent forward slightly, taking a deep breath.

"Damn it..."

Liora stepped out after him, concerned.

"Are you okay?"

Kael waved a hand dismissively.

"I’m fine."

Marcus leaned out from the driver’s side.

"You don’t look fine," he said.

Kael glared at him.

"...Shut up."

Selene crossed her arms inside the vehicle.

"...The mighty warrior can’t handle a ride."

Kael didn’t reply.

He just stood there for a moment longer, steadying himself.

Seraphine stepped out last, calm as ever.

"...First time experiencing this kind of movement," she said.

Marcus nodded.

"Yeah," he replied. "Motion sickness. Happens to most first timers. Sadly brother you have to suck it up. We still have a lot of distance to cover."

"Just give me a break first," Kael said. "I know I have been harsh to you..."

Marcus leaned against the door, arms resting casually.

"Yeah, you have," he replied. "But I’m not the type to hold grudges over that."

Kael let out a slow breath, still steadying himself.

"Good," he muttered.

A short silence followed.

Liora stayed close to Kael, watching him carefully.

"You sure you’re okay?" she asked again.

Kael nodded once.

"I just need a minute."

Selene stepped out this time, stretching slightly.

"We’re really stopping for this," she said, though there wasn’t much bite in her voice.

Marcus shrugged.

"If he throws up inside, you’re cleaning it," he said.

Selene paused.

"Fair point."

"Look, why don’t you just use healing magic on Kael to make himself feel better?" Marcus looked at their healer.

Liora hesitated for a moment.

"It doesn’t work like that," she said. "Healing magic restores physical damage. This isn’t an injury."

Marcus raised an eyebrow.

"So you’re telling me magic can heal a crushed rib but not a spinning head?"

Selene smirked slightly.

"Looks like your ’science’ wins this one."

Marcus chuckled.

"Not really," he said. "Just a different problem."

Kael straightened a bit, rolling his shoulders.

"...I’m fine," he said again, though his voice wasn’t as firm as before.

Liora gave him a doubtful look.

"...You don’t look fine."

Kael ignored that and looked at Marcus.

"...How long does this last?"

Marcus shrugged.

"Depends," he said. "You either get used to it... or you don’t."

Kael frowned.

"...That’s not helpful."

Marcus smirked faintly.

"You’ll live."

A short pause followed.

Then Kael let out a breath.

"Alright. Let’s go."

Marcus nodded.

"Good."

They got back into the vehicle.

Doors shut.

Kael leaned back again, this time bracing himself.

"If I throw up—"

"You won’t," Marcus cut in. "Just don’t look outside too much. Keep your eyes forward or close them."

Kael paused.

Then slowly shut his eyes.

"Fine."

Liora stayed close to him, just in case.

Selene climbed back in and sat down, still amused.

"This is going to be a long trip."

Seraphine took her seat without comment, calm as ever.

Marcus started the engine again.

The vehicle hummed to life.

He eased it back onto the road, this time a bit more controlled with the speed.

"Let me know if you’re about to pass out," he said.

"Just drive," Kael muttered.

Marcus smirked. "So what does the capital looks like?"

"So what does the capital look like?" Marcus asked.

Selene let out a small laugh.

"You’ve never been there?"

Marcus shook his head.

"Nope."

Liora glanced at him, a bit surprised.

"Really?"

"Yeah," Marcus said. "Haven’t had a reason to go."

Seraphine looked at him for a moment, then answered.

"It’s the most beautiful city there is," she said.

Kael, still leaning back with his eyes half-closed, let out a low hum.

"That’s one thing I’ll agree on."

Selene nodded.

"The roads alone are better than anything you’ve seen," she added. "Cobbled stone, clean, no mud, no mess."

Liora followed up.

"And the buildings," she said. "Marble, polished stone... even the houses look expensive."

Marcus raised an eyebrow slightly.

"That good?"

Seraphine nodded.

"Yes," she said. "The main districts are wide and open. Plazas, fountains, proper markets.

Selene leaned back, looking out the window again.

"It’s not like Berm," she added. "It actually feels... planned."

Kael opened one eye slightly.

"And crowded," he muttered. "Don’t forget that."

Liora smiled faintly.

"But lively."

Seraphine continued.

"It’s the center of Renshade," she said. "Nobles, merchants, high-ranking adventurers... they’re all there."

Marcus nodded slowly.

"So if anything big is happening, it happens there."

"Exactly," Selene said.

A short silence followed.

Then Marcus smirked faintly.

"Good," he said. "Sounds like a place worth seeing."
