Modern Weapons Cheat in Fantasy World - Chapter 75: Arriving in the Saint-Haven
Along the way, they’ll occasionally pass by horse-drawn carriages who would stare at them inquisitively, but Marcus didn’t mind.
The reactions were expected.
Some slowed down as they passed.
Others stopped completely.
Drivers pulled their reins tighter, horses shifting uneasily as the JLTV rolled past with a steady hum that didn’t match anything they were used to.
"They’re all staring," Liora said quietly, glancing out the window.
Selene leaned slightly to get a better look.
"Can you blame them?" she replied. "We’re inside a moving metal box."
Kael kept his eyes closed.
"Just keep it steady," he muttered.
Marcus smirked faintly.
"I am."
Seraphine watched the road ahead, then glanced briefly at the people they passed.
"You’re drawing attention," she said.
Marcus shrugged.
"Yeah," he replied. "But not enough to stop us."
A carriage passed by on the opposite side.
The driver turned his head completely, eyes locked on the vehicle as it went by.
Even the passengers inside leaned out slightly, trying to get a better look.
Selene shook her head lightly.
"...If this was in the capital, we’d cause a scene."
"Then good thing we’re not there yet," Marcus said.
Liora looked back one more time at the carriage they had passed.
"Do you think they’re scared?"
Marcus thought about it for a second.
"Some are," he said. "Some are just curious."
Kael let out a quiet breath.
"As long as they don’t get in the way."
Seraphine returned her gaze forward.
"They won’t," she said. "Not out here."
The road stretched on ahead, and it would for about fourteen hours. The night descended when they reached the outskirts of the capital city of the Kingdom of Renshade.
"That’s it," Selene said, leaning slightly toward the window.
Marcus kept his eyes on the road.
"The capital?"
Seraphine nodded. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Yes."
As they moved closer, the outline of the city became more defined.
Tall walls.
Wide gates.
Watchtowers lit by torches and lamps.
Beyond it was a sea of light.
"Okay, to avoid drawing attention, we are going to walk from here," Marcus said.
"What are you going to do with your carriage?" Seraphine asked.
"I’m going to stow it into my inventory," Marcus said.
Selene blinked.
"...You can do that?"
Marcus shrugged.
"Yeah."
Liora looked between the vehicle and Marcus.
"...That’s... convenient."
Kael frowned slightly.
"...So this whole thing just disappears?"
"Pretty much," Marcus replied.
Seraphine studied him for a second, then gave a small nod.
"...Understood. Then we proceed on foot."
Marcus slowed the vehicle and pulled it off the main road, stopping at a darker stretch just before the line of incoming traffic.
"Alright, everyone out," he said.
The doors opened one by one.
Selene stepped out first, stretching slightly after the long ride.
"...Finally."
Liora helped Kael again, though this time he managed on his own with less trouble.
"...I’m good," he said, waving her off.
Seraphine exited last, her eyes already on the gate ahead.
Marcus stepped out and closed the driver’s door.
Then, without much fanfare, he placed a hand lightly against the side of the vehicle.
A faint shimmer, and the JLTV vanished.
"I see, just like an item box," Seraphine noted.
They moved toward the main road, blending in with the other travelers heading toward the gate.
Now on foot, they drew far less attention.
Just another group returning from a job.
As they approached, the scale of the capital became more apparent.
The walls towered above them.
Guards stood at regular intervals.
The line moved steadily.
Seraphine stepped slightly ahead.
"I’ll handle entry," she said.
Marcus nodded.
"Go ahead."
When it was their turn, the guards straightened slightly the moment they recognized her.
"Lady Seraphine," one of them said.
She gave a small nod.
"We’re returning from a completed subjugation mission," she said. "We need entry."
The guard looked behind her and recognized her whole party. "It’s an honor that the Silver Vanguard is here in this city again. But, I don’t recognize that one person."
Marcus pointed to himself.
"...Me?" he said.
The guard’s eyes stayed on him, cautious but not hostile.
"I’m not familiar with your face," the guard replied. "State your name and affiliation."
Marcus didn’t hesitate.
"Marcus," he said. "Atlas."
The name didn’t register.
At least not yet.
The guard glanced at Seraphine.
"...He’s with you?"
Seraphine answered without pause.
"Yes," she said. "He’s under contract with us for the completed subjugation."
A brief silence followed.
The guard studied Marcus one more time, then nodded.
"...Understood."
He stepped aside.
"You may enter."
The gate opened further, allowing them through.
Marcus walked past him without another word, stepping onto the cobblestone road.
Immediately, the difference was clear.
The ground felt solid and even under his boots.
The air carried the noise of the city, voices, movement, distant chatter.
Lights lined the streets.
Selene looked around with a small smile.
"...Yeah," she said. "Now you see it."
Liora’s eyes moved from one building to another.
"...It really is different."
Kael glanced around once, then looked forward again.
"At least the ground doesn’t move."
Marcus let out a small breath.
"Not bad," he said.
Seraphine walked ahead, guiding them through the street. "Since the guild is closed now, we’ll have to spend the night here. There is a high-end hotel here where we can stay."
Seraphine walked ahead, guiding them through the street.
"Since the guild is closed now, we’ll have to spend the night here," she said. "There is a high-end hotel here where we can stay."
Marcus nodded.
"Works for me," he said. "I’m not in a rush as long as I get paid tomorrow."
Selene smirked slightly.
"...Straight to the point."
Marcus shrugged.
"That’s the job."
They continued walking deeper into the city.
The streets were still alive despite the hour.
Shops with lit windows.
People moving in groups.
Carriages passing through at a steady pace. It’s like your ordinary city nights in the modern world.
Seraphine led them through a wider street, then turned toward a more refined district.
The buildings changed, just like Seraphine told them. The structures here were made of polished marble, clean and bright even under the night lights. Windows reflected the glow from the street lamps, and the roads were wider, less crowded, and far more organized.
They stopped in front of a large hotel.
It stood taller than the rest nearby, with a wide entrance framed by carved stone pillars. Warm light spilled out from inside, and a pair of uniformed attendants stood by the doors.
Marcus glanced up.
"...Yeah," he muttered. "Definitely high-end."
Selene smirked.
"Told you."
They stepped inside.
The shift was immediate.
The noise from outside faded, replaced by a calm, controlled atmosphere. The floor was polished, reflecting the chandeliers above. Soft light filled the space, and the scent of something clean lingered in the air.
At the front desk, the receptionist looked up.
And froze for a brief second.
"Lady Seraphine," he said, standing straight almost instantly.
His eyes quickly moved to the others.
"...The Silver Vanguard..."
Selene crossed her arms slightly, used to the attention.
"Still famous, I see," she muttered.
"People recognize you everywhere?" Marcus said.
Kael scoffed quietly.
"...Of course they do."
Seraphine stepped forward.
"We need rooms for the night," she said.
The receptionist nodded immediately.
"Of course," he replied. "It is an honor to have you here again."
He reached for a ledger and flipped it open quickly.
"How many rooms will you require?"
Seraphine paused for a second.
"Three," she said. "One for each of us, and one for him."
She gestured lightly toward Marcus.
The receptionist glanced at Marcus again, clearly curious but professional enough not to ask unnecessary questions.
"...Understood," he said.
He began writing.
"We have premium suites available. Would that be acceptable?"
"Yes," Seraphine said.
Marcus leaned slightly against the counter.
"...I’m guessing this isn’t cheap."
Selene glanced at him.
"It’s not," she said.
Marcus shrugged.
"As long as it’s not coming out of my pocket."
Seraphine didn’t react.
"It won’t," she said.
The receptionist finished writing and closed the ledger.
"Your rooms are ready," he said. "We’ve prepared them in advance for returning high-rank parties."
He gestured to one of the attendants.
"Please guide them."
The attendant stepped forward immediately.
"This way, please."
They moved.
As they walked through the halls, a few other guests glanced their way.
Some recognized them.
Whispers followed.
"That’s them..."
"Silver Vanguard..."
"They’re back already?"
Selene exhaled softly.
"Yeah, we’re definitely not low profile."
Marcus glanced around.
"You guys are basically celebrities."
Kael smirked.
"That’s one way to put it."
Liora stayed quiet, though the attention clearly made her a bit uncomfortable.
Seraphine didn’t react.
She simply kept walking.
They reached a hallway lined with doors.
The attendant stopped.
"These will be your rooms," he said.
He handed over the keys.
Seraphine took them.
"Thank you," she said.
The attendant bowed slightly before leaving.
A short silence followed.
Then Selene stretched lightly.
"Finally," she said. "A proper bed."
Kael leaned against the wall.
"I’m not moving until morning."
Liora nodded.
"Same."
Marcus glanced at his room.
"Yeah," he said. "This works."
