Chapter 76: To the Adventurer’s Guild

Marcus woke up from his bed at six o’clock in the morning. Although there was no clock in the room, he could tell he woke up at that exact time. It had been like that for years. His body just knew.

He lay there for a moment, staring at the ceiling.

The room was quiet.

No noise from outside.

No footsteps in the hallway.

Even the city, which had been lively the night before, felt distant at this hour.

As much as he wanted to get up, he couldn’t. The bed felt too good.

The mattress had just the right firmness, soft enough to sink into but still holding his weight. The blanket was warm without being heavy, and the pillow supported his head in a way that made it hard to move at all.

Marcus let out a quiet breath and shifted slightly, pulling the blanket closer.

"...Yeah, this is dangerous," he muttered.

He hadn’t slept like this in a while.

Back on Earth, it was always rushed. Late nights, early mornings, or sleeping in places that weren’t meant for comfort. Even after coming to this world, most of his rest had been on rough beds or makeshift setups.

This, this felt like a luxury.

He closed his eyes for a second.

Just one more minute.

That was what he told himself.

But his mind was already awake.

Marcus opened his eyes again.

"...Alright," he said under his breath.

He pushed himself up, even if his body didn’t want to cooperate at first. The blanket slid off his shoulders, and the cool air hit his skin just enough to shake off the last bit of comfort.

He sat at the edge of the bed for a moment, elbows resting on his knees.

Then he stood.

The floor felt cool under his feet, grounding him instantly.

Marcus stretched his arms overhead, loosening the tension in his shoulders before letting them drop.

"Back to work," he said.

He walked toward the window and pulled the curtain slightly.

Morning light slipped in, soft and steady. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Outside, the city was already moving, and the view from his room was beautiful, allowing him to see the panoramic view of the city. As expected for a capital city.

Then, there was a knock on the door.

"Free breakfast for sir Marcus Manfred?" a voice from behind the door.

Marcus paused.

He glanced at the door.

"...Free breakfast?" he muttered.

That was new.

He walked over and opened it.

A hotel attendant stood outside, dressed neatly, holding a tray covered with a cloth. The man straightened slightly the moment the door opened.

"Good morning, sir," he said. "Complimentary breakfast."

Marcus stepped aside slightly.

"Yeah, come in."

The attendant entered carefully, placing the tray on the small table near the window. He removed the cloth, revealing a simple but well-prepared meal.

Bread.

Eggs.

Some kind of meat, lightly seasoned.

And a cup of something hot—likely tea.

"Anything else, sir?" the attendant asked.

Marcus shook his head.

"No, that’s good."

The attendant gave a small bow.

"Enjoy your meal."

Then he left, closing the door quietly behind him.

Marcus looked at the food for a second.

"Not bad," he said.

He pulled a chair and sat down, picking up the utensils without much thought. The first bite was enough to tell him everything he needed.

Way better than what he had been eating the past few days.

He ate without rushing, but he didn’t drag it out either. It was more habit than anything else. Finish the meal. Stay ready. Don’t get too comfortable.

Halfway through, he glanced toward the window again.

The city was fully awake now.

More people on the streets.

Shops opening.

Carriages moving in steady flow.

It really did feel like a normal place.

Too normal.

Marcus leaned back slightly after finishing the last of the food. He took a sip of the drink, letting out a quiet breath.

"...Yeah, I can get used to this," he said.

But only for a moment.

He stood and stretched again, then moved back to his gear. Gloves. Belt. A quick check of everything he needed.

All set.

Marcus grabbed the key from the table and headed for the door.

The hallway outside was quiet, but not empty. A few doors were already open, and he could hear faint movement from other guests starting their day.

He stepped out and closed the door behind him.

Just as he did—

Another door opened nearby.

Selene stepped out, already dressed, adjusting her sleeve slightly.

"You’re up early," she said.

Marcus shrugged.

"Always."

She glanced at him briefly.

"Breakfast?"

"Already done."

Selene raised an eyebrow.

"...They brought it to you?"

"Yeah."

She exhaled softly.

"Of course they did."

Marcus smirked slightly.

"Guess staying with you has perks."

Selene rolled her eyes lightly.

"Don’t get used to it."

Marcus shrugged again.

"Too late."

She turned and started walking down the hallway.

"Come on," she said. "Seraphine’s already waiting."

Marcus followed without another word.

Because the day had already started. He hopes that they can cash in the reward now.

On the receptionist hall of the hotel, they met up with Seraphine, who was already waiting near the entrance.

She stood there with her usual composed posture, arms lightly crossed, scanning the street outside as if she had already been there for a while.

"You’re late," she said without looking at them.

Marcus glanced at Selene.

"She just got here," he said.

Selene ignored him and walked past.

"We’re moving or not?" she asked.

Seraphine turned and headed out without another word.

That was their answer.

Marcus followed behind them as they stepped out into the morning streets of Saint Haven. The air felt different compared to the night before—cooler, cleaner, and filled with the quiet noise of a city fully awake.

Vendors were setting up their stalls.

Guards were rotating shifts.

Adventurers moved in small groups, some already geared up, others just heading out.

It felt alive.

"Guild should be busy," Marcus said.

"It always is," Selene replied.

They walked through the main road without stopping, weaving past people and carriages with ease. Seraphine led the way, clearly familiar with the layout of the city.

It didn’t take long.

The Adventurer’s Guild came into view.

Marcus looked up at it. and paused.

"...That’s it?" he said.

The building stood firm, well-built, and clearly important.

But compared to what he had seen before—

It felt smaller.

Less overwhelming.

Less... dominant.

Back in Berm, the guild had been massive. Wide halls, crowded floors, constant noise and movement. It felt like the center of everything.

This one was more organized.

But smaller in scale.

Selene glanced at him.

"What?" she asked.

Marcus kept his eyes on the building.

"Nothing," he said. "Just... different."

Seraphine didn’t slow down.

"This is Saint Haven," she said. "Things are more controlled here."

Marcus followed them inside.

The difference became even clearer the moment he stepped in.

The hall wasn’t as packed.

There were adventurers, sure.

But not in the same chaotic volume as Berm.

Movement was cleaner.

More disciplined.

Requests were posted in organized sections instead of being crammed together. Staff behind the counter moved efficiently, handling requests without the usual noise and shouting he had gotten used to.

Even the adventurers themselves, they looked different.

Better equipped and more composed. Potentially, the city might boast a lot of high-ranking adventurers.

They proceeded to the second floor where the guildmaster’s office was located.

The stairs were wide, built with polished wood that barely made a sound under their steps. Unlike Berm, where people moved up and down constantly, this section of the guild was quieter. Fewer adventurers. Fewer interruptions.

A hallway stretched ahead, lined with doors. Each one marked cleanly with engraved plaques—administration, records, operations. At the far end, a larger door stood out from the rest.

That had to be it.

Two guards stood on either side.

Not regular guards.

Adventurers.

Marcus could tell just from the way they stood. Relaxed, but alert. Their gear wasn’t flashy, but it was high quality. Weapons within reach, not for show.

Ryan would’ve called them professionals.

Seraphine walked straight toward them.

"We’re here to report completion of a contract," she said calmly.

One of the guards glanced at her, then at Marcus and Selene.

His eyes lingered on Marcus for a second longer.

Evaluating.

Then he knocked once on the door behind him.

A pause.

Then a voice from inside.

"Enter."

The guard stepped aside and opened the door.

Seraphine didn’t hesitate.

She stepped in.

Selene followed.

Marcus came last.

The room inside was larger than expected, but not extravagant. A wide desk sat at the center, covered with neatly arranged documents. Shelves lined the walls, filled with records and scrolls.

Behind the desk was the guildmaster.

"Ho, so the Silver Vanguards has returned! It’s so fast, does that mean that you..."

"Yes we completed the contract," Seraphine reported, cutting him off.

The guildmaster blinked, and then. "What the heck?"
