Chapter 2897: Vermin Squirming to the Tree I

Levin Cloud wanted to help the guild alliance but he is suddenly given a quest from the world itself. A quest that suddenly popped up as soon as he arrived in Neo Alfheim. It also appeared as soon as the world tree fell into sleep as it is assimilating all of the energy that it has just received.

Quest Name: Find The Vermin Endangering the World Tree

Quest Difficulty: Friend of the World Quest

Quest Description: Before the world tree fell to slumber, it has told the world itself that it is being attacked by mysterious beings. The world tree could block the attacks but it cannot block it if it falls into slumber. The world tree asked the Friend of the World to defend it while it is assimilating the newfound strength that it has gained.

Clear Condition: Protect the World Tree from any attacks or beings that dared to harm it. (Remaining Durability: 99.2%)

Clear Reward: Permanent Increase in Faith Stat by 50.

Failure Condition: The Durability of the World Tree gets reduced to 30%.

Failure: The World Tree will be destroyed and one of the pillars of the main world will be broken. A Distorted God might descend.

Restriction: Only those that have the title Friend of the World and have the ability to traverse the underground or plants can get this quest. This quest cannot be shared and can only be given to one person at a time.

Levin Cloud got the quest because he is the only one that can easily traverse the roots of the world tree. Since he was the only one given with this quest, this meant that he has the ability to finish it by himself. The only problem is that he is a support player but the game will not give a quest to someone that does not have the ability to clear it.

Levin Cloud also detected a presence that is a bit disturbing. A presence that is incredibly close to the presence of a distorted god. The only problem is that such a presence of a distorted god would have alerted the world already. Either that distorted god is so weak or it has already spread its essence into this world. It could be a distorted god that is already been accepted by the world.

"It could also be a small divine soul of it that is only here to observe. Still, I need to deal with the multiple life signals that I can sense. Why are there so many of them?" Levin Cloud thought as he emerged towards the area where the highest number of lives could be detected.

As soon as Levin Cloud reached the area, he could feel the ground silently tremble. It is not the tremor from the fight above because he is about a hundred meters below the ground right now. He even passed through a hard layer of soul that blocks any vibration from the top. This meant that there is something going on below the world tree.

Seeing that he is already so close to the life signals, Levin Cloud hastened his speed and encountered strange monsters that are in the form of ants. Some of them are just large ants that run on all of their legs but the others are clearly bipedal. The bipedal ants are even talking in human language to show that they are incredibly intelligent.

The bipedal ants could be seen commanding the ants using all of their legs as they literally extracted parts of the roots of the world tree. The world tree itself is incredibly sturdy that even Mythical Tier beast has difficulty scratching it but these ant beings he encountered have found a way to do it. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

The bipedal ants would use a special type of liquid that it will pour into one strand of the roots of the world tree. The root that should be lively and strong suddenly became sickly and limp. As soon as the root became weakened, the slave ants would tear that weakened root and then go to some location. The system is so organized that even Levin Cloud doubts that this is all the command of an intelligent monster.

Levin Cloud then observed what is happening even more. The weakened root that got cut off is now growing back because of the immense vitality of the world tree. It might look like the root has regrown back to normal but Levin Cloud knows that it is not the case. The root that grew is rather weaker and a tiny bit shorter than before. It is clear why the Durability of the world tree that should be at the hundred is now below it.

"I should check this entire network underground to see how such a thing could happen." Levin Cloud thought as he started to commune with the roots of the world tree and the ground around it.

Levin Cloud’s mind is suddenly filled with all of the events happening near the roots of the world tree. He is looking diligently and it seems that there are two more location just like this one. The only problem for Levin Cloud is that his vision cannot extend a meter away from the roots of the world tree. It is as if something is blocking his perception which meant that this quest is not as easy as he thought it would be.

"I shall deal with these enemies first then." Levin Cloud stated as he slammed his hand towards one of the thicker roots of the world tree and basically controlled it manually.

The monsters that were farming the roots of the world tree suddenly found themselves being attacked by its large roots. The bipedal ants could be seen to show panic as if they did not expect something like this. The potion that was given to them should render the world tree unable to detect what they are doing.

The sudden movement of the roots of the world tree made them panic and it became worse when Levin Cloud directly manipulated the roots to crush the enemies. Levin Cloud might not be able to easily defeat these monsters by himself but the land and the roots of the world tree is basically his domain. He can use the most powerful tree roots in existence to crush the enemies that are present.

"I guess this is why only I received the quest since I can basically do this." Levin Cloud thought as he moved towards the next location.

Just as he did with the first location, he controlled the roots to kill all of the beings trying to harvest the roots of the world tree. Even though he succeeded in two locations, he could still feel this invisible pressure around him as if something might go wrong. Still, he needs to focus on what he needs to do and not think too much of a future threat.

"All I need to do is make sure that I am vigilant and prepared." Levin Cloud muttered as he went to the last location where the number of life signals are the densest.

When Levin Cloud arrived, he is shocked to find that a large nest could be seen at this location. The difference between these locations and the other two is the fact that it has more bipedal ant beings. He even saw heavily armored ones that use sharp mandibles and sickles as body weapons. Some of them even have wings and a stinger covered in numerous spikes.

A large number of bipedal ant beings is not what scared or shocked Levin Cloud the most. What shocked him the most is that there is a player here that is the same race as these ant beings. Levin Cloud finally chose to observe closely and he finally saw what race these ant beings were.

Race: Myrmekes

Species: Worker Myrmekes

Description: The lowest rank of the Myrmekes race as they are beings that do not have the ability to walk in a bipedal manner. Since they cannot walk in a bipedal manner, they are relegated to work for the colony until they die. If a Worker Myrmekes does gain the ability to walk in a bipedal manner, they will evolve to a higher version of their race called the Soldier Myrmekes.

Species: Soldier Myrmekes

Description: The evolved version of the Worker Myrmekes. They are the ones commanding the Worker Myrmekes as they have gained more intelligence and way to walk in a bipedal manner. They would then learn the specific way of fighting for the higher tier Myrmekes. They have evolved their upper legs to be wielded as a deadly weapon.

Species: Elite Soldier Myrmekes

Description: The evolved form of the Soldier Myrmekes. They are the next elite guard that have the ability to meet with the Myrmekes Queen. They have hardened their bodies with battle and could easily crush enemies of the colonies as most of their body parts have either mutated or evolved for combat.
