Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 443: Acting
Walker Grant’s dark eyes stared intently at her. "Have you forgotten what I told you before? I investigated his background information. He’s highly suspicious. How can you still think it’s a coincidence?"
Chloe Reed averted her gaze and said nothing for a long moment.
"Noah, are you done with the photos?"
Walker looked at the little boy and asked calmly.
Noah nodded. "Yeah, I took a lot. Uncle Walker, take a look."
He ran over and handed his phone to Walker.
Walker scrolled through them, his lips curving into a slight smile. "Very nice. As a reward, you don’t have to do your homework tonight."
"I don’t mind doing my homework," Noah said earnestly. "Can I ask for a different reward?"
Walker looked at him, surprised. "What reward do you want?"
Noah looked a little shy, but he said it anyway. "I want you to come home every day, Uncle."
The little boy had friends to keep him company at kindergarten, but back at the old family house, there was no family besides the maids and the butler.
He still missed his mom, but no matter how much he thought of her, she never appeared. So he started to miss his uncle. At least his uncle always showed up.
Seeing the boy’s anxious gaze, Walker’s heart suddenly softened. "Alright. I promise."
Noah immediately broke into a happy smile, but then he seemed to think of something and looked timidly at Chloe. "Can you and Uncle come home together, Auntie, okay?"
Chloe gave him a cool look. "You don’t like me. You don’t have to deliberately try to please me."
"That’s not it." Noah shook his head. "I don’t dislike you."
He blinked. "You’re the one who doesn’t like me."
Chloe: "..."
She gave him a complicated look.
Walker said, "Even a child can sense it. That just shows your acting isn’t up to par."
Chloe asked, "Do you have any other ideas? Are we just supposed to sit here and wait?"
Walker said, "Ask him to meet you. And ask for his help directly."
Chloe was hesitant. "Will that even work?"
"There’s only one way to find out," Walker said, his tone casual.
A dark glint flashed in his eyes. ’This test will reveal whether or not it’s really Miles.’
Chloe stood up, walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, and dialed Miles’s number.
It rang three times before the call connected.
"Hello, Chloe."
Chloe’s voice was dejected and pained. "Miles, something’s happened."
Miles’s tone immediately grew anxious. "What happened? Did Walker hurt you again? What did he do?"
Hearing his words, Chloe’s eyes flickered. She suddenly realized something. ’It seemed that every time she met with Miles, the conversation always revolved around how Walker was hurting her.’
’But when she thought back carefully, was that really the case?’
’What he did was wrong, but he had also risked his life to save her multiple times.’
Chloe sensed something was off, but she quickly pushed the doubt aside and said, "No, it’s my grandmother. Autumn Linton conspired with someone to poison her. They’re threatening me—I have to find Sunny Reed. If I can’t, my grandmother will be in grave danger. But Sunny has disappeared. Where am I supposed to find her?"
Her voice trembled as she spoke, as if she were on the verge of a breakdown.
"First, don’t panic." Miles’s voice grew heavy. "Where are you right now? I’ll come find you. We can talk in person."
Chloe agreed. "I’m really out of options. Walker doesn’t care about me anymore. He’s already agreed to the divorce. You’re the only one who can help me now."
