Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 464: How Could I Possibly Like You?
Nathaniel Monroe let out a breath. Seeing how guarded she was, he quirked a corner of his lips and asked, "You still haven’t answered my question. Why were you coming out of the gynecology department that day?"
Iris Yates rolled her eyes. "I’m a woman. Isn’t it normal for a woman to have gynecological problems? I wasn’t feeling well, so I went to see a doctor. Why won’t you let it go? Why do you keep hounding me and digging for details? What exactly are you trying to do?"
She paused, suddenly recalling what Chloe Reed had said. She looked him straight in the eye and asked, "Nathaniel Monroe, you don’t have a crush on me, do you?"
"Ha!"
Nathaniel Monroe reacted as if he’d heard the funniest joke in the world, letting out a single, sharp laugh. "What are you thinking? Our families know each other, so I was concerned you might be heading down the wrong path. That’s why I’m looking out for you. How could I possibly like you? I only see you as a little sister, okay?"
For some reason, hearing his words made Iris Yates’s heart feel lighter. ’Good, so he doesn’t like me,’ she thought, relieved. ’If he did, things would get complicated.’
Iris Yates looked ahead and said, "Now you know the reason. Can you get out of my car?"
But Nathaniel Monroe just stared at her. "Are you sure you were just not feeling well?"
Iris Yates was losing her patience. "If you don’t believe me, go ahead and investigate me. You’re acting like a creep."
Nathaniel Monroe raised an eyebrow. "Fine, I won’t ask anymore."
He showed no intention of getting out, however. "My car’s out of gas. Give me a ride."
Iris Yates’s expression darkened. "This street is full of taxis. You can hail one and go wherever you want. I’m busy. I don’t have time to drive you!"
In response, Nathaniel Monroe simply took out his phone and sent her a transfer. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
The phone’s voice notification rang out: *Alipay transfer received: ten thousand yuan.*
As the voice alert sounded, Nathaniel Monroe looked at her. "Can you give me a ride now?"
Iris Yates glared at him. "Are you insane?"
*Alipay transfer received: one hundred thousand yuan.*
"You’re seriously sick in the head!"
*Alipay transfer received: five hundred thousand yuan!*
"Where to, Young Master Monroe?" Iris Yates’s entire demeanor shifted in an instant as she looked at him with a beaming smile.
Nathaniel Monroe scoffed, then gave her an address. It was a club where he had a dinner meeting that evening.
Iris Yates: "You got it."
She immediately started the car and headed toward the Blue Night Club.
Nathaniel Monroe scoffed again. "You really light up at the sight of money."
Iris Yates maintained her smile. "You’re absolutely right, Young Master."
’Who’s going to say no to money?’
’It’s five hundred thousand yuan! That’s my entire monthly allowance!’
Nathaniel Monroe glanced at her, then reached out and pinched her cheek. "Don’t smile like that. It’s ugly!"
Iris Yates was about to drop the act, but she forced herself to endure it. "Alright, Young Master."
Nathaniel Monroe didn’t say much more. When they arrived at the club, he got out of the car and left.
Iris Yates rolled down the window and asked, "Young Master, do you need me to pick you up later tonight?"
Nathaniel Monroe looked back at her. "How much?"
"One million."
"Get lost."
"..."
"You got it."
Iris Yates drove off briskly.
Nathaniel Monroe muttered, "Is money all she sees?"
"..."
That evening, her grandmother woke up. Her spirits were much better. She ate some congee, and her eyes had regained some of their clarity, but her reactions were still slow.
Whatever Chloe Reed said to her, she had to repeat it twice.
Chloe Reed silently cursed Autumn Linton for being inhuman, but she forced a relaxed expression onto her face.
The old woman sat propped up against the headboard and asked, "When can I leave the hospital?"
Chloe Reed said, "As soon as the toxins are cleared from your system. Why? Is something wrong?"
The old woman stared at her blankly, taking a long moment to process before shaking her head. "No, it’s nothing."
