Chapter 14: Unknown

"Huh... why is it so wet here?" I pulled the blanket to cover up my face, only to find it completely wet.

Thunder!

Suddenly, the terrifying roar of thunder attracted my attention, as I turned to look outside the window. I found myself dumfounded; the sky was again covered with the thick dark layer of stormy clouds.

In less than a second, a strong gust of wind came slamming straight on our window. As this gust of wind entered the room, our blanket, phones and other things slammed straight on the wall.

I quickly protected Emi with my body as a shield before locking the window.

Huff~ Huff~

"What the fuck is going on here? When we came, we met with a storm, now another, it’s not even the time of the monsoon." I couldn’t help but question this oddity, while to some degree I felt like it might have a supernatural element, but conducting research was currently out of question.

I have Emi and my grandparents to look after. Well, I could also persuade them to shift to the city, but I...

"Another Storm~ isn’t this weather a bit too chaotic?" talking about Emi, she was also awake as she looked at the lightning flashing outside the window.

"Yeah, what else do you think will happen when the heat index of the planet is showing constant growth?" I gave her the easy answer, which I heard from a random news channel, that the recent weather in the coastal area is becoming a super too dangerous for people. Even the government had been officially clearing these areas, shifting people to other places. But in my heart, I was more inclined to believe that this was done by some demon or monster.

"Hm, maybe that is the case. I heard that the government had found a rare mineral-rich mine in the Wong Zhi mountain, which might be making it even worse than other places." Emi added in, accepting my explanation easily, after all, I am just too good at explaining.

Thunder!

Boom!

"Ahh~" I heard the huge explosion sounds, followed by Emi’s scream, before my eyes completely turned blind for a few seconds. When the vision returned to my eyes, I was holding on to Emi strongly. Her body curled up into my arms. She was too shocked by this sudden lightning strike; she didn’t even dare to lift her head from my chest. Her tiny hands were clutching onto my t-shirt.

Looking at the shaking body, I sighed and patted her head, while my eyes turned to the outside. There was a tree that split open from the middle by the lightning strike, now burning in intense flame. Under the stormy winds, the flames were spreading in the surroundings; luckily, most of the plants here were green, so it wasn’t easy for the fire to spread around.

While I was enjoying the view without any plan on trying to put out the fire, because things burn here, it would be easy to convince these old folks to leave this place. With the demons hiding in the mountain, this place could be considered a death zone. Who knows what kind of evil plan these demons might have?

Unfortunately, I couldn’t enjoy this view for a long while, as the rainfall began and the fire slowly began nearing its end.

The sound of rainfall attracted Emi, too, as we both began watching the outside scenery while sitting at the window. I looked down and saw that she was still holding my t-shirt corner.

Suddenly, my eyes contracted, as I was ready to close Emi’s eyes. I saw her staring at the corner of the window, where a narrow path to a deep mountain was located. That place was completely dark with nothing visible. I didn’t ask what she was looking at; I just pulled her off the bed. As we both lay on the floor, with the bed blocking our window view, but that sound of the rain, wind, and thunder was clearly audible to us.

"I heard a voice from there..." Emi said, without pushing me away; instead, she was trying to get as close to me as possible.

"What kind of voice?" I asked calmly.

"Something pleasant, like... like those opera artists. A very long and soothing note. As if the voice was echoing through the forest. Ouch~" As she was explaining, I gave her cheeks a really hard pinch, because I saw an excited look in her eyes when she began describing the voice she heard from that darkness. I hate that excited look when any person has that excited look in any of the horror manhwa I read, either turns out to be a villain, or is the first to die. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Why did you do that?" She asked in a rather silent way. She was too afraid to have a full fight with me.

"Hehe... when you see or hear something strange, it only means a hunter trying to lure its prey. And I can tell you for sure that the sound we hear must be something done by those construction companies to scare away the residents from here." Though I didn’t hear the sound, I’ll hear it soon. I can feel it.

"You also heard it?" She asked with a relieved expression.

"Of course, I do, how could I ignore such ugly singing?" I replied casually, but now her face had turned pale once again.

"Fuck"

Thunder!

Another lightning bolt fell outside, and I saw a shadow flashing at our door.

"There is~"

Emi opened her mouth once again, but this time I cut her off in the middle, "Shut up, that’s just someone’s clothes that came to our window because of the wind."

"You are lying~" she said into a very low voice, but I did hear it clearly. So, now it was time to teach her a lesson about how honest I am. I grabbed both of her cheeks and stretched them to their limit, until she genuinely began crying.

"What do you think I am that I will lie to you?"
