Chapter 16: Sleep

"Um... Grandma, you don’t have to worry yourself with her. She is fine here." I said, taking the turnaround. My old grandmother was standing right there on the door, with a casual smile.

"Oh, Ricky, you are also awake." She said with the same smile.

"I was woken up by your conversation. Grandma, you should get some sleep and stop worrying about us." I said while standing up from the floor, and I pulled out the private blanket, placing it on the bed.

Seeing me tidying up the bed, the old hag didn’t bother us much and left silently. While Emi was getting the things quite clearly, she was still holding on to my t-shirt. If I were to be honest, I liked this feeling of being a dependent big brother. Unfortunately, from how things look right now, I doubt I can be a dependent son. Maybe I will explore these mountains a little in the morning.

"And it’s all done, let’s get on the bed." I turned to Emi while jumping on the bed first. Her cheeks were still red from what I did earlier. She would have definitely declared war because of this if we were at home.

She climbed up on the bed, lying beside me, as she whispered into my ears, "Why are we placing our heads in front of the window?"

I had placed our pillow right in front of the window, as I planned to enjoy this beautiful weather.

"What else, can’t you see how good it looks outside?"

I pointed at the endless darkness spreading across the entire Wong Zhi mountain. The clouds were covering it all, with lightning flashing between the clouds, like raging serpents, swimming into the clouds. The heavy rain was pouring everywhere, creating the most obvious, horrifying melody that the rain could possibly make. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

With raging wind complementing this beauty, it was just perfect.

Above all, my sixth sense was telling me this was all for today; there won’t be any other things trying to scare us for a while. Yet, it wasn’t safe enough to sleep soundly.

"Are you out of your mind? What are you doing?" She roared.

I sat up and pulled the window open just a little to let the cold wind enter the room.

"Calm down, what are you afraid of? There is no ghost. Just have a little bit of courage, this place is so beautiful, can’t you enjoy the beauty of nature?"

I said confidently, pulling her to sit beside me, and let her experience the feeling of the cold wind hitting her face. As the wind hit her face, her body shivered a little.

"Can you see the beauty of nature?" I asked, also looking at the horrifying darkness in front of our house, where anyone could barely outline the tree and bushes, under the flash of lightning. This beautiful word didn’t suit it at all.

"Um~ forget it, just come here and have some sleep," I lifted the blanket, wrapping it around both of us. So, she could lean on her strong and handsome brother, which might trigger the system. I still didn’t understand the meaning of pervert this system follow.

She might not like this arrangement... well... she was already hugging my chest without a word. Things went much more easily than I expected. I looked at the storm outside the window, then at this little girl in my arms. This really felt like it could be a great manhwa panel, alas, here comes another sleepless night for me.

The rain continued for a while, but she did fall asleep quite early, with no more anomalies happening. I, too, got a little relaxed, but I have to guard my treasure chest throughout the night. Until the storm stopped by the morning, and I only got half an hour of sleep.

In the morning, things were pretty fine; the storm hadn’t caused us any damage, except for that tree, which wasn’t a good sign. The storm was strong enough to have caused some severe damage, yet it didn’t.

I made breakfast for everyone first. With both of my grandparents acting normal, there was nothing wrong about them, which gave me hope that the grandmother at night might be one of those face-changing demons, instead of my grandmother being an actual demon.

All in all, things were fine, just not in my control. Luckily, now Emi was really afraid to stay here. I feel like she will leave today, though I will have to send her to the train station, down the mountain. I will have enough time and less worry to do my research on these demons. Who knows, I might catch on to some world-destroying plan. I am just way too lucky nowadays.

"Hey, what do you think about going back? I don’t think you are enjoying it here." I said, while washing everyone’s dishes. Grandma and Grandpa were taking some morning sunlight, leaving all the work on us.

"I will stay here," her reply quietly shocked me, but I maintained my composure and asked, "Why?"

"I like it here; it’s just that I am not used to storms." She replied while placing the things back in their places.

"Oh, you know, according to my expert survey, there are going to be a lot more storms in the near future," I replied casually, while drying my hands. As I was done cleaning dishes.

She didn’t say anything about it and just followed me behind. Now, I plan to explore the other surroundings a bit. Under the morning light, it didn’t seem that horrifying to look around.

Emi was also tagging along as we began exploring the surrounding empty houses, leaving that narrow path into the deep forest for last. Of course, I was planning to check it out myself, alone. But right now, I didn’t feel safe to leave her alone, anywhere in this mountain.

But exploring the surroundings and talking to our grandparents also yielded quite an unexpected result. The information I got forced me to think about going back to the city with Emi.
